21.01.2022 Hey everyone! We have some super exciting news! Our friend Rob @rek_artist will be hosting art classes starting this Tuesday the 23rd @scrumptiousreads in Brisbane from 7-9pm. Cost is $110 with all materials provided. The class is aimed at beginners or people with limited knowledge on working with acrylics. I'm super excited to learn to paint and hoping to gain the skills to paint my flock if you're interested you can book online at the scrumptious reads page. 20.01.2022 I was debating what to post along with this video because we are a business and feel our stress and personal life shouldn't come through in our work. I then realised, our business is birds and our customers are also bird moms and bird dads so you guys can relate to how I'm feeling at the moment. Merv has had multiple vet visits over the past week and a half due to difficulties breathing, mostly at night. Our vet suspects he aspirated a small piece of food and it's stuck caus...ing infection It has been very scary at times because he wheezes a lot sometimes through the night and I don't really sleep because I check him many times every night. He had a bad coughing fit (yes birds cough, it sounds like a squeak) last night and had a few this afternoon. The vet thinks whatever is in him is loosening up from the treatment we are giving and he is trying to force it out. However, we don't have a clear diagnosis because they were unsuccessful in getting an endoscope down far enough to see what's down there. The other possibility, which is less likely would be aspergillosis that was acquired when he was a chick in the nest due to poor conditions in the next box. Regardless of what is going on, I have to keep a close eye on him and if I see signs of deterioration like long periods of open beak breathing and heavy tail bobbing, he will need to be taken to an emergency appointment. Thankfully our vet has made themself available to us over the weekend if something goes wrong. Please keep Merv in your thoughts. I apologise for the long post but I wanted to let everyone know what's going on and why orders are taking a long time to go out. I have been a bit of a mess on and off with worry and I have been putting Merv above everything else at the moment because if anything werd to happen to him we would be heartbroken. Thanks for your patience and understanding with us! I will try to make another post sometime about training birds to take medication from a syringe. 14.01.2022 I did some foraging today around our land at Mount Glorious. I collected a variety of pinecones, macadamia nuts and some blue quandong. The blue quandong is a native Australian Bush fruit which also grows in several Asian countries. It has been a big hit with the birds! I personally haven't tasted yet, should I?? Have any of you tried it? ... I wasnt aware that wild foods and natural branches were so great for our birds until our vets recommended it and also from how commonly practiced I saw it was here in Australia. As far as I'm aware, collecting natural branches, flowers, pine cones etc for pet birds isn't commonly practiced in Canada or the US and not really something people think of doing. The birds go crazy for it though! 11.01.2022 Exciting news! We now stock Baffle Cages!! Throwback to Grovers second day with us before he was integrated with Albert and Booney in the asiatic bird room and he had to have some cage time when I was cooking. He totally loved foraging for his food with the baffle cage! Baffle cages are an excellent option for birds of all sizes. Our baffle cages in particular are great for small to medium sized birds. We had our baffle cages manufactured to be lighter in weight than others... on the market because we saw the heavy 345g weight of other baffle cages as a potential safety hazard, especially with smaller birds who live in pairs or flocks and like to play rough with their toys and food (I could totally imagine Crackers swinging from one and whacking Duckie accidentally) Therefore, we used a lighter weight stainless steel and ours weigh 195g This foraging toy can be used in many ways, filled with fresh food, nuts still in the shell, tissue paper, cardboard, fresh flowers etc. It also grows with your birds ability over time because you can gradually make things harder by lining it with paper or cardboard to give a layer to chew through before getting their food.

10.01.2022 Hi everyone, I'm putting a call out to see if anyone can help me get in touch with any wildlife protection organization's in India? I recently joined an Alexandrine and ringneck parrot group on Facebook called "Alexandrine & Ringneck parrots group worldwide" There are 25k members in this group. I assumed it would be like most other groups where people share cute photos of their pets and ask for advice. I have been horrified by the fact that people are posting images of distr...essed birds in cramped cages, sometimes a whole group of illegally wild caught chicks crammed in a cage while people discuss the price. The sale of native wildlife is Illegal in India. While it can be argued that many people just aren't award of the law.....is there really any point in having a pet if they're just going to live in such horrible conditions? People in this group wonder why their bird plucks when it's blatantly obvious it's due to being confined to a small space with no enrichment. 10.01.2022 Hey guys, I know I promised this to you ages ago and I filmed a comprehensive video regarding clipping vs. keeping birds fully flighted. This little intro sums up why I did not end up editing and posting the video to YouTube as I intended. We personally do not clip our birds and I shared our reasons for why we don't in the video. I became very self conscious though and worried that I was going to face criticism from people who do clip their birds or be accused of being a "Ka...ren" myself who I do a parody of in this clip. I of course don't insult or berate anyone and just aim to deliver facts regarding clipping we have gotten from avian vets, our personal stories that have impacted our preference for keeping them flighted and a few training tips for bird owners looking to make the transition to keeping their bird flighted. Despite all of this, I still felt a sense of dread that people out there in internet land would take things the wrong way. I've come to realise that yes, there will be a few people who hate what I say, and take it the wrong way BUT it's really silly of me to shy away from producing informative content for people who were waiting patiently for it! editing has commenced again and the finished product will be delivered this time! 09.01.2022 Merv took a bad turn last night and his breathing became more laboured. We took him go an emergency vet where they gave him oxygen to stabilise his condition. At 5:30 in the morning he began deteriorating and our avian vet was called in to the emergency clinic. He inserted an air sac cannula to help Merv's breathing. He's now at our vet's clinic and he may be having other procedures done today. Our vet said the procedures are high risk due to his impaired breathing, but it's... the only way to find a definitive diagnosis and the proper treatment. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers....once again I have had no sleep at all last night so the orders are all still delayed and I'm sorry about this. Looking at this pic made me realise I need to take that curtain down! It's made from cotton and he can easily chew it up there if he wants. ... Anything made of cotton is dangerous to give your birds to play with and can lead to crop impaction over time. Look to replace cotton rope perches and happy huts with products made from seagrass, sisal, jute and wood. Many of these safe alternatives are available in our shop. Even if your bird doesn't actively chew their rope perches or happy hut. Natural browse is important to offer our birds as much as we can as it gives variety in their diet and endless entertainment at the same time. Small is suitable for little birds all the way up to sun conure sized birds. I would recommend going up to the medium for sun conure and similar sized birds though because they can chew off the pieces along the side easily. Medium is good for birds up to Galah, Eclectus, African Grey and similar but the large also works for these birds. ... Robyn came into Maddie's life about 6 months ago when she received a message on Facebook from a lady who wanted to rehome a bird she no longer had time for. Robyn lived in a small carrier cage with no toys, an all seed diet and no interaction with her owner. Robyn was pu...rchased from a local pet shop that provides no guidance to new bird owners. Robyn’s owner obviously wanted the best for her but had been giving her the wrong care. Robyn was completely untame. With Maddie's help she was trained step up and now she will fly to her finger. She is also target trained and has learned how to eat healthy - despite loving millet a little too much. Robyn and Maddie still have a lot of work to do and she’s not perfectly trained, they have their hipcups as all owners and pets do. But we keep on going. 01.01.2022 Sorry we have been absent guys! We have been extremely busy trying to get your orders filled and little Mervy hasn't been feeling well. He has been sneezing a lot and our avian vet suspects it is allergies. We haven't gotten further testing done yet as the vet told us to monitor him. I think we will be taking him in for observation tomorrow though to see if his breathing improves in a closed sterile environment where no allergens are present. If his breathing still seems ...a bit off we will be having tests done. Prayers for Mervy everyone, we become extremely worried when anything is off with our birds. As an extra note, we would like to share that we feel annual health checks are very valuable as birds tend to hide their illnesses quite well and sometimes don't show symptoms until it's too late. Vet checks are especially important when bringing a new bird home. I knew Psittacossis, otherwise known as avian chlamydia was a common disease, but I wasn't aware it was SO common until I heard of a few people recently buying new birds only to find out they are sick with this. This is the first thing all of our birds get checked for and new birds are always kept separately from the established flock until results come through.
