11.01.2022 Bitflo e-Safety Tip #003 TOPIC: Pokemon Go Raise your hand if you have heard your kids saying Gotta catch em all! Gotta catch em all!? We wouldnt be surprised if you had as PokemonGO is the latest online gaming crazy to sweep the world. ... In just 2 days, the application was downloaded 15 million times worldwide. What is it and how do you play? PokemonGO is a free location based, online game, which allows users to capture, battle and train virtual creatures (Pokemon), who appear on the screen as if they are in the real world. Users download the application onto their smartphone, allowing access to their devices GPS and camera. The user then creates an avatar (a character which represents a player in a game). This avatar then displays on the game map (a replica of a real world map) at the users current GPS location. As users move about the real world, their avatar travels along the replica game map and encounters Pokemon. Users are provided with items such as eggs, Poke Balls and potions which they can use to catch the Pokemon they encounter. The idea is to travel around the real world to catch Pokemon in the game (this type of game is known as augmented reality). Some tips courtesy of esafety.gov.au: 1.
