25.01.2022 A very welcomed change by the ATO late yesterday. Our profession has been under immense time pressure to make this happen by the original deadline of 30/4 for our clients. The additional week is going to make such a difference. We would have made it happen without a doubt but It now means we have time to catch our breath, a breath we so needed. Our industry has been working around the clock since this started. We are physically and mentally tired. Thankyou to treasury and the... ATO for easing the pressure valve. For the first two fortnights (30 March 12 April, 13 April 26 April), we will accept the minimum $1,500 payment for each fortnight has been paid by you even if it has been paid late, provided it is paid by 8 May 2020. If you do not pay your staff by this date, you will not be able to claim JobKeeper for the first two fortnights

24.01.2022 How to process Stand Down time in Xero Payroll for 'non-casual employees': It's not as you would first think. We demo Xero's suggested process for now, while they create a better solution.... We fear that some businesses will not think to process it this way, so we hope this video helps minimise the rework later on. The below link takes you to Xero's written instruction which we demo in the video below https://central.xero.com/s//Process-an-employee-stand-down

24.01.2022 CRITICAL JOBKEEPER TIP: Do not make any further JobKeeper Top-Up payments to employees after this Sunday 27th September until you are 100% certain you pass the new turnover test after 30th September to continue onto JK2. WHY? ... If you dont pass the test to continue to JK2 you will not be able to claim any JK wages subsidy to cover that cost. So you will be out of pocket. INTERIM MEASURE: Once you know you pass and will be continuing onto JK2 you then have until end of October to catch up any top-up payments for the month.

22.01.2022 We get it. It is A LOT of information, uncertainty and questions. Email your questions concerning your workforce and finances during COVID-19 to [email protected] by 2pm this Thursday 23 April so they can be included in our interview style Q & A Session to be held this Friday by FiveSeven Consulting & Biz Synergy. Questions will be kept fully confidential name wise and treated as anonymous during the session.... Thanks to FiveSeven Consulting Pty Ltd for pulling this together for us.

15.01.2022 We have added 5 minutes to our morning huddle where each of us take turns to lead the team in movement to get our blood flowing and do something fun together that is good for both our mental and physical health. It was Debs turn today and as we have entered Move with Mai-Wel to raise awareness and funds for The Mai-Wel Group for the entire month of August she took us on a walk around the office. We have a few girls working for home at the moment so they joined in at home ...via teams. We're seeking donations to help make a difference in lives of people living with a disability in the Hunter. Any donation you're able to make, big or small, goes a long way. If you'd like to donate to our team called Biz Girls or even sign up yourself and start some competition, visit https://maiwel.com.au/moveformaiwel/ Funds will be allocated to the development of infrastructure and recreational spaces for people with disabilities in Mai-Wel's homes and facilities. #moveformaiwel

15.01.2022 We are hearing untruths and misleading information about JobKeeper in the community. So much so that we felt it worthwhile to take the opportunity to set the facts straight and bust some of the JobKeeper Myths! So here are our JobKeeper Facts - read the below list or watch the video. Your choice! ... 1. Once you meet the turnover drop test you REMAIN in JobKeeper Scheme until the Government ceases or changes the Scheme 2. You need to lodge a JobKeeper Claim Form for each month after that month end 3. You MUST pay employees their fortnightly JobKeeper Top-ups before claiming reimbursement from the ATO 4. You do NOT need to change your pay week to align with the JobKeeper Fortnights 5. If you pay wages weekly or monthly you do NOT need to change to fortnightly pays 6. PAYMENT DATE, not pay period determines which JobKeeper Fortnight your pay cycles falls into 7. The number of employees you claim for CAN change per month 8. The turnover information you need to complete in your monthly claim form is for STATISTICAL PURPOSES only, so the government can gauge if the economy is recovering and what business sectors are recovering faster or slower 9. You CAN become eligible for JobKeeper in a future month 10. If you become eligible you MUST offer JobKeeper to each eligible employee 11. NOT all employees are eligible for JobKeeper 12. A businesss available cash or ability to secure a loan may mean it might choose NOT to enter JobKeeper 13. You cannot make an employee on JobKeeper work more hours than they ordinarily did prior to Covid 14. You must record in pays actual hours worked at normal rate of pay, the amount of JobKeeper Top-Up and the amount of any Stand Down hours at $0, in order to bring their leave accruals to their equivalent prior to a Covid Stand Down of hours. 15. If an employee repeatedly refuses to work shifts while on JobKeeper you can take steps/action under Fair Work due to their refusal to work. 16. If an employee is not sick but is concerned about their health during Covid and chooses not to work, they can arrange with their employer to take Annual Leave or LSL if available during that time, this forms part of their JobKeeper Top-Up. 17. You CAN ask employees on JobKeeper to perform other tasks, but they CANNOT earn less than their normal rate of pay. If they are performing tasks above their pre-Covid pay rate, they must be paid to reflect this. 18. The $1,500 per fortnight is BEFORE TAX 19. Where hours worked can fluctuate and you pay wages weekly, it is preferable to leave the JobKeeper Top-up until the second week of the fortnight to avoid an overpayment. 20. The JobKeeper Wage Subsidy received by the employer is taxable income and DOES NOT include GST 21. Super is NOT payable on any JobKeeper Top-Up amount 22. An employee cannot receive both JobSeeker and JobKeeper 23. An employee can only receive JobKeeper from one(1) employer 24. PAYGW tax MUST be deducted from JobKeeper payments

12.01.2022 JobKeeper 2 is almost with us. We have been focusing on the latest updates as they have been released by Treasury, ATO and our professional body and will start to work our way through our client base communicating to them and their employees as to what this means for them going forward. Keep an eye out for a video from Deb on how JK2 works. Links will be posted here and also emailed out to our broadcast list.... In the meantime here is a handy basic infographic issued by the ATO. 10.01.2022 Some great news today for business in this crazy world we find ourselves in. Our basic update is below on the changes announced today to Jobkeeper from end of September. A link is also embedded in the update to view the treasury fact sheet on these changes in more detail.

10.01.2022 WARNING - Audits have begun. These audits are to check that the grant monies you received have been spent on eligible expenses. If you haven’t already been doing so we suggest, while fresh in your mind, that you locate and record these transactions in a fashion that will make them easy to put your hands on in the event you receive one of these audits. ... At the time you applied for the grant a list of the type of expense that are eligible was provided.

10.01.2022 Prosecco and flowers. Thankyou Thankyou to the guys at The Pourhouse. Not bad for a group of misfit boys (your words not ours) We 100% disagree with that label. Your collective uniqueness is what makes you The Pourhouse. We loved seeing you adapt during Covid. Your sense of community saw the community support you during that time in return. Keep up the great work. From the Biz Girls. #mymaitland

10.01.2022 AND THE JOBKEEPER RACE BEGINS! The next 10-15 days, as we assess, enrol, action and claim JobKeeper for our eligible clients is going to be a massive working period. A friend in the industry Sarah Stein drew a very clever analogy last night which we are going to borrow, 'We feel like we have been in training for the Olympics and today is the opening ceremony'... Our normal regular work will continue during this time as will preparation of March BAS's but we do ask for the patience of our clients. You have been wonderful and very understanding up to now, giving us the time to learn and train ourselves up on all things Covid-19. We have been very appreciative of this and the lovely messages we have been receiving from you all have helped to motivate us even more. We can see that once we get past this 2 week period we can start to move back to some sort of resemblance of business as usual. We will work hard to get access to the Covid-19 stimulus offerings available to our clients, we are for obvious reasons addressing those businesses that have been hardest hit first, but promise you we will be to you soon.

09.01.2022 Not the way we usually celebrate Melbourne Cup at The Whistler however we had a lovely time with our partners in crime Hunter Recruitment Group supporting a venue who supports our annual event in support of The Mai-Wel Group. We hope covid allows us to bring our event to you next year Tina White we are sorry we didn’t think to take a photo before you left and also missing Pauline Cross

07.01.2022 NSW $10k GRANT SUCCESS: UPDATE: - it appears now that a letter from your accountant is needed to confirm you meet the criteria and approval is no longer instant. Must be a behind the scene's eligibility check occurring prior to approval. It makes sense that they do this but please don't let that deter you from applying if you are eligible. We have had good success with some of our clients applying for this grant. It is not a difficult process and for the 1st one we assiste...d with it took less than 1 hour. A few things to note about the application: You need to set up a Services NSW account if you don't have one - have your Drivers Licence & Medicare Card handy, its not hard to setup 1-19 employees is Full-Time (or equivalent) You don't need your March BAS to apply for this, just upload the last BAS you have lodged. The purpose of the BAS is to show you are in business and during normal trade your annual turnover was > $75k You have to enter the lowest turnover for a fortnight you have experienced since 30/3/2020 & your turnover for the same fortnight in 2019. No document proof is needed for above fortnight income amounts however we would suggest you save how you worked that out in the event of an audit down the track. The grant lists for you what you can spend the $10k on In the cases we have seen approval was instant with funds advised to be deposited into the business bank account in 2 days. Proof of what you spend the grant on in line with the guidelines must be kept for 5 years. Link to grant application is in the post below.
