23.01.2022 This weekend, a number of restrictions are being eased, meaning that a number of our facilities are able to be reopened to the public. The following will be re...opened this Saturday (6th June): - Northam Visitor Centre - Bilya Koort Boodja - Public Toilets which were previously closed - Playgrounds, skate parks, and outdoor gym equipment - Public barbecues and water fountains Both the Northam and Bakers Hill Recreation Centres are available for bookings- please contact us for more information. The Northam Visitor Centre, Bilya Koort Boodja, and Recreation Centres have developed COVID-19 Safety Plans in the interests of both staff and public safety, and all staff have completed the required hygiene training course. Please note that at some of these facilities, some restrictions on entry numbers and operations remain in place, and we ask for your patience as we work to get operations back to Normal levels as things progress. Both social distancing and hygiene measures have been implemented in these sites, and government advice is being followed at all sites operated by the Shire of Northam. We look forward to welcoming you all back this weekend!

23.01.2022 The #NAIDOC2021 theme is: HEAL COUNTRY! which calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our ...cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction. Country that is more than a place and inherent to our identity. For generations we have been calling for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of our culture and heritage. We are still waiting for those robust protections. This year’s theme also seeks substantive institutional, structural, and collaborative reform something generations of our Elders and communities have been advocating, marching and fighting for. Healing Country means finally resolving many of the outstanding injustices which impact on the lives of our people. It is about hearing and actioning our aspirations which are the culmination of generations of consultation and discussions among our nations on a range of issues and grievances. After 250 years, our children and our future generations deserve better.

12.01.2022 Bilya Koort Boodja Centre is the most impressive teaching of Aboriginal culture that I have seen. The combination of technology and storytelling to educate was... a truly immersive experience. This is a must see for all West Australians The Governor thanks staff at the Bilya Koort Boodja for the wonderful tour of facilities during a day trip to Northam yesterday. Thanks also to Rupert and Annette Poulton at Summer Creek Restaurant & Brewery for their hospitality and delicious lunch and ginger beer! Great to also view the 38m high ‘Phlegm and HENSE’ silo art as part of The Public Silo Trail - Western Australia's Silo Art Trail. Did you know the Northam CBH Group grain silos were first painted in March 2015 and were the very first set of silos to be painted in Australia? These are just some of the exciting options to consider when planning your next adventure into regional Western Australia. Find out more at www.northam.wa.gov.au
