21.01.2022 There are many of us working and educating from home. Its a new experience for many and one that can feel overwhelming. Connect (or other) notifications pingin...g in with new alerts for lessons and resources, due dates and deadlines... Here are some thoughts... - if its too much today, put it away until tomorrow - whats the lesson trying to achieve - can it be done another way? ie. cooking involves reading, measuring, creating a hypothesis (will it rise evenly) and testing it out... Remember that learning happens all around so use whats around you - Your child will not lose a whole year of school whatever happens. Schools are working around the clock to make sure our young ones will be alright - and if were still doing this in Term 2 theyll be even better set up - not one of us has ever done a pandemic before - so theres no right or wrong - theres just doing the best you can. If today is not the day for cooperation - then tomorrow might be. - your and your familys wellbeing comes first. Do something every day to build happiness and joy into your home. Hang in there everyone. #togetherwecan Remember - our little Mini-Guide is a good way to think about setting up home education. We only have the secondary one at the minute, but the primary one will follow. Regardless, theres bunches of really good stuff in there based on my 2 years as a home schooler - and of course a bazillion years as a therapist. https://bestprograms4kids.com//parent-mini-guide-home-sch/

21.01.2022 THE ANGER VOLCANO Children are no strangers to anger and big emotions, especially in the younger years, before theyve acquired emotional awareness and control.... Anger can make them feel more powerful than the feelings of vulnerability does. Helping a child learn how to thoroughly calm down from a bout of anger is one of the most valuable skills you can teach your child. Before they can learn to deal effectively with anger, there are three things children need to know. Firstly, they (and parents) need to know that anger is a normal emotion and its not something that needs to be avoided or denied. At times, its okay to feel angry. Next, they need to learn healthy ways of expressing their anger. For some, this might take the form of physical activity while another child might find it helpful to draw or write about their feelings. The Anger Volcano is a great tool to use with your child to talk about emotions and work on constructive skills to better regulate them. #camhsprofessionals #coronavirus #helpingpeople #helpingeachother #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthsupport

17.01.2022 Parenting in the early years is a tough gig. There is so much reward, but also so much you simply have to let go of (career, clean house, sleep, doing what you ...want when you want, sleeping in...) - which can lead to feelings of frustration, disappointment, resentment, anger... I like these specific reasons for understanding some of those early feelings in parenting - I especially remember the 'touched out' feeling - nursing one and a few toddlers hanging off my neck and arms and always wanting cuddles. Gorgeous - but, let's be real, tiring too. It's OK and perfectly normal to have some big feelings during the parenting journey that are less than sunshine and lollipops.

17.01.2022 I remember when we got kid number 2, my son really struggled for a while. So much we wouldn't leave him alone with the baby. Some good information on this article.

14.01.2022 I wonder if you could print this and talk about it with your child/children this week? What other courage is there? What about Creative Courage? Its hard putting something out from your own dreaming and being courageous enough to have opposition and criticism.

12.01.2022 If your child begins to be moody and angry, sad or distant, please pay attention. Complaints of feeling tired, sore stomach, headache, disinterested; many of th...ese are part of the tween/teen stage of development, but many are also indicators of stress, anxiety and depression, possibly preludes to suicidal thoughts. Maybe your child has told you they are having thoughts about suicide. As we ease into this topic of suicide this week, know that talking about it with our child IS helpful, and often they will respond positively to us. 09.01.2022 Using a cross-sectional study design, involving 2166 Australian high schoolchildren (1131 Boys and 1035 Girls) aged 12-17 years, a recent study examined the ass...ociations of bullying victimization (traditional, cyber and both) with mental disorders, suicidality (ideation, plan and attempt) and self-harm. 08.01.2022 Frustration is the root emotion that drives tantrums, upset, and aggression. It is often misunderstood as anger which will prevent us from working at a root lev...el to restore balance, perspective, and rest to a child, teen, or adult. Frustration is the emotion that drives us to change the things that dont work for us or that need to stop. Sometimes we need to be the one to change. Adults can help children have a relationship with their frustration which will help them emotionally mature.
