25.01.2022 Great night of training last night. Good to see the adults putting in a super effort, Ash & Tim literally exhausted on the mat at the end of each sessions. Some key points from the kids class, practice striking drill 4 and those key striking areas for the self defense applications. Adults keep working on your aerobic fitness to get more out of each session and see you all after Easter.
24.01.2022 Hello everyone, a couple of quick notices. Firstly some of the parents asked me about the kicking and punching 'home' training drill that I have asked the kids to practice. the drill is: using the one leg, front kick to back kick to side kick to round kick then spinning back kick. Change legs and repeat. The punching drill is based on the same principle, all of the same hand, straight punch, hook punch and then uppercut. If they are practising and their balance is not gre...at, get them to hold onto a chair, the balance will come with the improved technical ability. I would be aiming to have them do this 5 times of each limb. We are having a Combined training night at Kenthurst on Wednesday, 13 June commencing at 7.15pm. Let me know if you are attending because space is limited. We will again be working through the grading syllabus in order to improve our preparation for the coming all kyu grading and powercamp. Lastly, we are considering having a lunch at Castle Hill RSL Club on a Sunday. This is just a social event. Many times at the end of class when we are all running out the door we start to discuss life 'stuff' but it is always cut short. I am on holidays from the Fire Brigade for the next month, let me know what date suits and we will get it organised. Scott
23.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone, I had planned to be at Kenthurst Dojo tomorrow night, but I am starting to feel the early effects of a cold. I would prefer to be fully fit for the session, so unfortunately I am going to put the session back to Wednesday, 27th June, which is next Wednesday night. We have been working on some new ways to incorporate the striking drills into our training which I was keen to show the guys from Kenthurst and also some developments in our self defence drills in the lead in towards Powercamp. I hope you can make next Wednesday for training.
22.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone. Kids training tonight will continue to focus on those sparring techniques we worked through last week, leading into striking drills. Adults we continue to work towards Powercamp. We will have a meeting of all black belts at the conclusion of training tonight to discuss some matters including relevant information from the all kyu grading on the weekend. In addition I would like to discuss a change to the class structure for 2019 going forward. Looking forward to seeing you all in the Dojo tonight.
22.01.2022 Great night of training at Kenthurst Dojo, thank you guys for getting there. Some key points from the night were, keep your guard up, chin down and stay strong behind your strikes. We worked through the first three striking drills and the break fall drill, so continue to practice the finer points of the drills throughout the training year. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the night, the energy and enthusiasm was great and we will host another night soon. We might have to look at pre-booking for the class to ensure we have enough room to really get into the work. Osu!
21.01.2022 A big congratulations to Asha, Luke and Cadel on achieving their black belt this weekend. All 3 performed extremely well and were standouts over the day. Luke had the opportunity to train on Saturday. He and the students put in over 11 hours of training on the Saturday prior to the Sunday grading. I was extremely proud of how they threw themselves into the day and were first to put their hands up to in the self defence component. Their sparring rounds were exceptional an...d the work that they have put in over the years well and truly showed. They should be enormously proud of their achievement. Only 1% of all students who start martial arts stay and achieve their black belt. A special thank you to Sensei Daniel Morris and Sensei Scott Young for their assistance over the weekend. Sensei Dan wore the 'bully suits' for about 2 hours and assisted in many of the students showing their skills, which he did both Saturday and Sunday. Sensei Dan then backed up for about 10 sparring rounds on Sunday again to assist students attempting their grades, truly black belt behaviour. I know that you will all congratulate Sempai Asha, Sempai Luke and Sempai Cadel on their achievement.
21.01.2022 Wednesday night is combined Hills and Kenthurst training at Kenthurst Dojo starting at 7.00pm. The Dojo is located on the corner of Lucas and Nelson Street. We will be concentrating on the grading syllabus so that both Dojo's are on the same page in relation to what is required. We will be working through striking drills, take downs, knife drill, self defence drill and then some light sparring at the conclusion of the night. Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
21.01.2022 Good morning everyone. Our final night of training for 2019 will also be our Grading night, being Monday, 8 December. The kids are preparing well. I hope that they have continued to work on their striking drills over the last week. Mid year I had a meeting with all of the adult black belts in relation to the class moving forward in 2019. I have operated a Dojo for the past 20 years and it is time for me to wind down my involvement with an eye on actually retiring. In 201...9 I will no longer be instructing an adults class. The class times moving forward will be as follows for 2019: 6.00pm - 6.50pm Juniors (Primary aged kids) 6.50pm - 7.30pm Secondaries (High School) All of the kids, both primary and secondary, will commence at 6.00pm, but the secondaries will continue through to 7.30pm. I made the offer to assist one of the adults in continuing to run an adults class, however, due to their own busy lives we do not have anyone to take up the adults class moving forward. If that should change in the near future I will let you all know. For those adults that wish to continue training and pursuing your own Budo goals, there is Kenthurst Dojo and also Penrith Dojo being the 2 nearest Dojo's and I strongly urge you to continue with those two Dojo's. See you all tonight.
21.01.2022 Well Powercamp 2018 is done and dusted. What a great weekend. I am of the opinion that this was the best Powercamp I have been to. In terms of the way the camp was facilitated, the opportunity for training on the syllabus and then the student level. For those that did not attend i think it is worthwhile explaining how the weekend went down; Friday night - 1.5 hour circuit class (7 - 8.30pm) Saturday, we started at 6.00am for 2 hours of striking drills. Breakfast for an ho...ur before about 2.5 hours of training leading to lunch. Lunch for an hour before another 4.5 hours of training, grappling, striking, bag work, take downs, knife fighting (1.00 - 5.30). Dinner for an hour before breaks and then free training until about 9.00pm. Sunday, Grading started at 6.00am and went through to 2.30pm with a break for breakfast and lunch. Baulkham Hills was very well represented over the weekend. Ella Morris had an outstanding weekend and a well deserved Ni Dan. I think over the last 6 months she has developed into our best technical student. She was extremely strong all weekend. Dan Morris was successful in his San Dan grading. Dan turned 16 on Friday and over the last couple of months in the lead in to grading he has really mixed it with the adults in sparring. No easy feat when you are talking about Ricky, Scott, Ben and Jason A. He used this strength and determination to get him through the 30 rounds. I know I might be biased but I personally believe his final round, round 30 mind you, was the strongest of the camp. Well done Dan. Ricky A, what can we say, but an enormous effort again. One of the best martial artist I have had the pleasure to train with and instruct. Every action he took over the weekend was all class, deliberate and inspirational. I felt sorry for the guys in the bully suits when he was doing the group self defence, he was a raging bull. I would also like to make a special thank you to Scott Young, Tony Coe and Ben Abel. You absolutely don't get to Ni Dan and San Dan on your own. Guys, your presence in the lead up to and the weekend is what carried Ella, Dan and Rick through the tough moments. That is what a black belt is and in particular what a Sensei is. Me personally, well I am pretty sore from Friday night and the bag work on Saturday, so for you guys who were involved all weekend, this was a pretty special effort. Have a well earned break guys, rest up, relax and I will see you back on the floor as we head towards the end of 2018.
21.01.2022 To confirm the striking drill: Sequence 1 - Jab, straight, hook, front kick. Sequence 2 - Jab, hook step forward front kick Sequence 3 - Jab, uppercut, hook and front kick.
21.01.2022 Hello everyone one, there will be no training this Monday night, 29th as I am returning to a fire station and Sensei Scott Young is in Melbourne. It is also a pupil free day for most of the students, so we will return to training on Monday, 6 May. See you all then.
20.01.2022 Monday nights training: Kids - Continuing with our working on the striking drills and drill number 3. (Jab, straight punch, hook to clinch and then knee strike). We will follow this up with some self defense work and sparring. Adults - Continuing our work with the striking drills, drill number 4 which is the front kick drill. We will also continue our work with the 'bare' sparring, concentrating on technique, control and building the combinations.
20.01.2022 Good morning all, unfortunately we have had family member pass away over the weekend so I will not be taking the class tonight. The class will run as normal with the black belt group. For kids we will be working on technique - improving round kick, spinning back kick and spinning hook kick. For adults we will be concentrating on technique also, focusing on the back kick and 5th striking kick, which involves spinning back kick and spinning hammer fist. The instructors will... then complete the night with sparring, concentrating on improving the technical ability of our sparring, rather than strength and aggression. I will see you all next week and we will discuss with Kenthurst about having our term training night at Kenthurst in the next week or so.
20.01.2022 Hi everyone, just a quick reminder that training is as normal for the school holidays. With a grading coming up I would like to see everyone who isn't away on t...he mats to be at their best for the grading. Could everyone wishing to attend the grading please let me know this week so I can give Kaicho an idea of numbers. Have a great day. Sensei Ben See more

19.01.2022 Good afternoon, tonights training will continue to concentrate on technical ability. I am hoping to have some adults there during the kids class to have the kids work with an adult holding the focus pads. I am also aiming to give the kids a quick pattern of techniques that they can practice on at home a couple of times per week. Something that will take no more than a couple of minutes each day in order to improve their striking skills. Adults class will also be focused on technical proficiency. As Sensei Rick will be with us tonight we will be aiming to replicate the grading requirements for those that are attending Powercamp.
