16.01.2022 Tool Of The Week The @makitaaustralia Simpson Quick Drive drill is very underrated. It was gifted to us by an old friend of ours we did some work for a while back. I said to Ben on the way out we’ll never use that drill aye Bens reply haha probs not Well a couple of months later, here we are. 13.01.2022 Victoria St - Making progress inside our Victoria St project. Have a peek inside Bed 1. One of our favourite pieces in this room is the recycled hardwood sill.... We were unsure for a while what we were going to use as the sill for this window until Ben spotted a nice lump of hardwood timber in the customers back shed. The window when first picked up from Renovate Restore Recycle, was in great condition but was without a reveal, stile posts, a head or sill. So we’ve had to improvise, which we love! We’ve ripped down the piece of timber using the @dewalttough table saw, routed the edges with the corded @makitaaustralia plunge router and used the corded @makitaaustralia randon orbital sander and sanded it back to life, all onsite. 12.01.2022 Victoria St Project Our Victoria St project is off to a great start. This 100 year old house has been extended and renovated in stages over those years. Hopefully this will be the last time for a while. All weather boards replaced on the front of the house, new window (from Renovate Restore Recycle in Bendigo) replacing the old, a new beam fixed as a pitching plate for the new verandah, new facia and eave above the brand new gable end (the big triangle) and a complete new ...facia and eave down the side of the house. Tomorrow we move inside to the other side of this wall and finish framing the wardrobe and old frame ready for some interior lining next week. This place is coming up a treat and gee we’re excited about it!!! 11.01.2022 tool hack // the @milwaukeetoolsaus cordless trimmer making light work of this drywall today. We’ve set the depth of an old router bit to 10.5 mm and used the cornice as a guide/fence to keep our cut straight. The reason we set the depth to 10.5 mm is so we’re not hitting any hidden surprises that are not visible behind the drywall (eg, wires and pipes) and the router bit just plows through it like it’s nothing. 05.01.2022 Here’s one way to fit a cavity slider unit when the doors are onsite. It’s not rocket science, but if the doors are close by this is a great efficient way to fit off the unit. 1. Chalk or straightedge a pencil line along the opening in line with the wall frame. (If not chalked already) 2. Pack the cavity unit and head (packers under jamb side or carcass), level. ... If the floor is level you can skip this step! 3. Plumb the unit and fix the carcass to the wall frame/stud Carcass/Cavity Unit now plumb and level 3. Pin the carcass/unit to the floor using a concrete screw or a timber screw if a timber subfloor to your chalk or pencil line. 4. The jamb side should be still floating. Hang your door plumb and slide over to the floating jamb. Chock the door closed with the cover strap/rail that come with the cavity slider unit. Chock it up as high as possible so the pressure is on the rollers. If the chock is down low you may be pushing your door out of plumb. 5. Pack the the jamb tight to your door and Bob’s your uncle!
