24.01.2022 To us, Black Arts is the kind of beer you pull out on a special occasion surrounded by family, good friends, or a loved one. For those enjoyable moments in life where we remember to slow down and enjoy the company of others. It's the perfect companion to any good picnic in the sunshine. For a dinner party that lasts till the early hours of the morning. Or when visiting those you haven't seen in a while. It's more than just a beer to us. It's the moments that are shared with it.

23.01.2022 Over the last month we've been amping up our time in the brewery, working on quite a few new blends for release in summer We've finally got around to blending our 3rd version of our Golden and our Red. Plus, a 2nd blend of our Biere de Coupage. And a few other exciting releases we'll leave as a surprise We've also got a few exciting collabs around town! Annnnnd, we're looking at how we can safely open up the barrel room again!

23.01.2022 We reckon being able to go 25km from our homes is worth cracking open a Golden! Here's to you Melbourne! We'll get there soon enough

22.01.2022 Have you tried our Golden Wild an oak-aged Australian farmhouse ale? It's remarkably wine-like! It's dry, funky and tart, with layers of lime, coconut, guava, pineapple and stone fruits, presented in an effervescent golden hue. We’ve got a limited number of blend 1 and blend 3 left, so grab one while you can.

22.01.2022 In 2019, we released two blends of our Golden and Red Wild Ales. You're probably thinking, we're well into the second half of this year, where are the 2020 blends?? Yeah, well, it's been one crazy year!! We are absolutely planning on releasing more blends this year. But we've taken some time to focus on deciding the future of Black Arts. And we've gotta say, we're bloody excited for what's to come!

22.01.2022 There are only a few of our Red number 1 left in stock. So if you've been meaning to get your hands on one, now's your last chance. This release takes a lot of muscle to open. We put the corks in too far in our first batch of Golden and Red (rookie move). Best way to get it open is with a waiters friend corkscrew and some brute force

22.01.2022 Definitely our favourite part of the job is walking around the barrel room tasting how everything is developing. In one of our blending tanks sits a mature golden with stone fruit. Not going to give too much away but she's tasting reeeal good!

21.01.2022 It's been a long, long wait, but here we are. Introducing... our new core range! Bière de Coupage: A beautifully balanced blend of our mature golden wild ale with a young dry hopped saison. It's crisp and refreshing with a solid backbone of funk. Golden Wild Ale no. 3: Our 3rd blend of our mature golden. As always, it's tart, dry, vinous, oaky and full o' funk. Red Wild Ale no. 3: Our 3rd blend of our mature red. It's full-bodied and tart with red fruits, vanilla, c...hocolate, caramel and wood. And for our bottle lovers out there, we got you. Our Golden and Red are also available in bottles All have just hit our online store: http://blackartsbeer.com/shop

21.01.2022 It's Father's Day next Sunday, so why not order dad a bottle of Black Arts delivered to his door? We've just launched an option to add a personalised message to your order. Before you check out, scroll to the bottom of our shop and click on the 'Gift message' item. When you add it to cart, a pop up text box will appear for you to type in your message. We'll print it out and stick it to a bottle in your order. Be sure to order before Wednesday to make sure it arrives before the weekend. We're finding it's a particularly busy time for our couriers at the moment.

21.01.2022 Who's counting down the days to Christmas with @carwyncellars canvent calendar? Last year we introduced our Santa's Little Helper, aka, our very first Bière de Coupage. This year, we've taken our Bière de Coupage and refermented it on blueberry and basil. It's floral and fruity, perfect for a hot summer afternoon.

21.01.2022 It's been so good to be able to open our doors again and welcome you into our barrel room! Thanks to all of you who has visited already. We'll be open this weekend for the last time in 2020. Book a session online using the link in our bio. We've also added dates for January and February too. Go check them out

21.01.2022 Our Bière de Coupage bridges the gap between kettle sours and wild ales. We like to call it an aged sour. Unlike a kettle sour, there's oaky, funky, mature wild ale in there. Complemented perfectly with equal amounts of young, dry hopped Saison. Enjoyable all year around Shop now: https://blackartsbeer.com/shop/biere-de-coupage

20.01.2022 We're currently working on our last Coven beers for the year. We'll be launching our annual membership, The Coven, for 2022 in October. If you're keen to join our gang of beer lovers and sharers, then sign up to our mailing list to be the first to know when it launches. Image by @fyn

19.01.2022 You can't go wrong with local wood fire pizza and cracking a bottle of Black Arts. Our pick in the west (and possibly all of Melbourne, big call, we know!) is @pizzadasporto

18.01.2022 Keen to hear what you all think about our latest release! We've blended a selection of our mature golden wild ales, and refermented it on fresh nectarines. It's a complex balance of sweet stone fruit, punchy zest and tartness, and creamy oak flavours. It’s dry, vinous and funky. ... Available online now. https://blackartsbeer.com/shop/nectarine-golden-wild-ale

17.01.2022 When Josh was managing his restaurant Fox in the Corn in Footscray, he noticed that beer had a stigma to it. That's where his determination to share the diversity and complexity of beer started. Through Black Arts, he aims to shake things up a little. He wants to break the status quo and create a beer that isn't your average brew. Inspired by the traditional beer-making of Belgium, Black Arts blurs the lines between beer, wine and cider.

17.01.2022 "One of the best beers I've ever tasted" "The lavender gin sour holy shit amazing!" "Brilliantly balanced " This is probably one of our favourite blends we've ever made! ... Inspired by summer gin, we took our delicate 30-month old Golden Wild Ale, let it sit on base gin botanicals, lavender and pink grapefruit. It's seriously as good as it sounds. Exclusive to our 2020 Coven members. See more

16.01.2022 Blending is an important process for us. Without it, we wouldn't get the complex flavours we strive for.

16.01.2022 This may look like our Red Wild Ale, but it's actually our Golden that's been refermented with blueberries and basil. Unexpectedly tastes similar to a Flemish Framboise, it's full of bright berry flavours followed by a soft basil finish. Our favourite game to play is to get someone to taste it without knowing what it is, and ask them to guess.

15.01.2022 These stage 4 restrictions make shopping local more important than ever before. So if you have the means to do so, keep your favourite local businesses alive by shopping independent. #keepinglocalalive Throughout stage 4, we plan to continue to ship orders from our online store, and keep bottle shops stocked. Remember that our couriers are doing the very best they can, with an influx of online orders now being sent all around Australia. From what we can tell, they prefer contactless delivery, and may leave your order at your door. Our thoughts are with our fellow Victorians, navigating this new world we're living in. We're all in this together.

15.01.2022 Cheers to our Golden with blueberry and basil Expect bright fruit flavours followed by a soft basil finish. Somewhat reminiscent of a Flemish Framboise, don't you think? blackartsbeer.com/shop/golden-with-blueberry-and-basil

14.01.2022 Our Golden Wild Ale... where it all started! Although none of us could've expected what 2020 has become, we've taken this forced slow down to figure out what's next for Black Arts. We've been so overwhelmed and humbled by all your support and encouragement. We cannot wait to show you what's to come! ... Tell us, what would you like to see from us? See more

14.01.2022 We just wanted to say a great big thank you for all your support this year. Every purchase, comment and thumbs up has given us the drive to keep making beers. We can’t wait for what 2021 brings!

14.01.2022 We get our malt from @voyager_craft_malt from Riverina, NSW on Wiradjuri land. Voyager are an Aussie company that malt locally grown and regionally sourced seasonal grains. Not only are they local, which reduces our carbon footprint, they're also doing some incredible things in the sustainability space! They're committed to reducing the amount of water they use in the malting process, as well as reusing water where ever they can. They source grain from Aussie farmers th...at are committed to reducing their impact on the earth by using less fertilisers or growing heirloom varieties that are stronger growers than weeds and depend less on chemicals. They turn agriculture waste into energy to power their kiln. They carefully consider the most efficient way to send their product so they can reduce emissions wherever they can. We're committed to making better business choices for the planet, and this has been just one of them. See more

12.01.2022 Today is your last chance to join our VIP membership the Coven for 2021. Head to our shop to secure your place, for weird and wonderful wild ales delivered to your door throughout the year.

12.01.2022 Here's a reminder to stock up on our BDC for the festive season! We sure have

12.01.2022 Excited to announce we'll be part of this years @carwyncellar canvent calendar! Available for presale from this Wednesday 14th October carwyncellars.com.au/canvent

11.01.2022 We're keen to start playing with more fruited blends! We like to use fresh fruit. It's more work, but we really don't mind. Our beer takes a few years sitting on oak to taste the way it does, so a little extra work doesn't really matter at the end of the day

11.01.2022 Guess what... we're officially opening our barrel room again!! And it's just in time for the launch of our new releases. We have 6 dates over the next few months. Book a session here: https://blackartsbeer.com/bookings... See you there!

11.01.2022 Back in January, when the year looked bright and fruitful, we used some pinot gris grapes to make a grape hybrid beer. We've been letting it develop, tasting it every month to discover new and complex flavours appearing. Have you tried a grape hybrid beer before? What do you think?

10.01.2022 With our new found freedom, we jumped in the car last weekend and visited our block. Everything is growing strong! We even have cherries and nectarines growing!! Cannot wait for the day where we can use this fruit in our beers

10.01.2022 We get a lot of questions about cellaring our beers. They can be cellared, but know that we've already technically done the cellaring for you. We sell our beers when we think they're tasting their best. It's also important to remember that fruit flavours fade over time. So we don't really recommend cellaring them, unless you have two so you can compare and see how the flavour develops over time. Any questions, feel free to write them in the comments below and we'll answer them for you!

09.01.2022 Introducing our Nectarine Golden Wild Ale. We've taken our delicate yet complex Golden Wild Ale and refermented it on nectarines. Tastes like summer should ... Available now online: https://blackartsbeer.com/shop/nectarine-golden-wild-ale

09.01.2022 We recently purchased 2 acres of land in the Otways to build our first home. Very exciting for us! Probably doesn't mean much to you but here's where it gets interesting... The reason we bought a chunk of land is to plant an orchard. We just finished planting 140 rare and interesting, apples, pears, peaches, apricots, nectarines, plums, cherries, not to mention a bunch of raspberrieswith the hopes to add them into our beer some day. It's going to be one wild ridethere's so much for us to learn. But we're bloody excited for the possibilities of creating more weird and wonderful Aussie wild ales. #australianwildale

08.01.2022 Our berry patch is growing strong. We're even started to get some fruit. Which never lasts long...

08.01.2022 Podcast We had a blast chatting to Chris from @beerhealer about all things Black Arts. From where it all started (like the time Chelsie put up with a brew house in their tiny Footscray apartment) to Josh’s technique for blending and where his inspiration for flavour combinations come from. This is the first podcast we’ve been on together, so if you want to get to know the both of us, this is a good place to start. You can listen on any of your favourite podcast apps. Thanks again Chris for having us on!

07.01.2022 Look at that deep colour! This is our Golden Wild Ale with Blueberry and Basil, which is somewhat reminiscent of a Flemish Framboise. Expect bright fruit flavours followed by a soft basil finish. Only available on our online store: blackartsbeer.com/shop

07.01.2022 Had a great chat with the boys at Step Brewers Podcast! Have a listen for a little step inside the brewery and how we create these crazy cool wild ales.

07.01.2022 We've been working hard on our summer releases lately. Although things have been pretty slow around here this year, we've got a lot planed to drop in the next few months. Perfect for when the weather warms up and we can (hopefully) see our loved ones again.

06.01.2022 Got a bucket full of peaches

06.01.2022 We've just launched our 2019 Golden and Red Wild Ale value pack on our online store. Get them while they last! The beauty of making wild ales is that we can never make the same blend twice. Every blend has something unique it brings to the overall flavour which is definitely our favourite part of the blending process. #australianwildale

05.01.2022 JUST LAUNCHED We’ve had quite a few of you asking about this one You can now buy our @carwyncellars Magnificent 7 beer online We don’t do dark wilds often, but we wanted to do something dark and wintery for this collab. We’ve taken a mature aged dark wild and refermented it on blueberries and coffee. The coffee we chose is honey processed in an oak barrel (you know we love oak). It’s a complex balance of rich chocolate, prunes, acidity, oak and, of course, funk.

04.01.2022 Josh’s been beekeeping for a few years now. It started in a small rental in Seddon. But lucky for these little fellas, we’ve moved them down to our new property. Looking forward to doing some collabs with their honey Anyone a fan of mead?

04.01.2022 Have you seen our first two blends for our exclusive membership the Coven? First we have a Raspberry Sabro Sour. Just like our Bière de Coupage, we’ve taken our delicate 28-month old Golden Wild Ale, blended it with fresh saison. We've then aged it on 200g of raspberries per litre, and dry hopped it with Sabro! The result is a fresh, fruity and coconutty beer that’s a tribute to warm, simple summer days. Then we have our Savoury Sour. We've taken our mature Golden Wild Ale a...nd aged it on curry leaves! Influenced by Spontanbasil, we wanted to make a savoury golden that pairs well with food. We chose a lightly tart golden base to blend with curry leaves to give soft savoury aromas and a delicate palate. Can't wait to share with you all our next two Coven releases!

04.01.2022 We planted a few rows of raspberries! We can’t wait for them to grow a bounty for us to use in our beers. Nothing beats the taste of home grown berries

03.01.2022 Pretty excited to be slinging beers at @restaurantigni on Sunday 28 February Legendary chef @charley.snaddenwilson will be taking over the grill, while we, alongside @winefrom_themoon pour the drinks. If you're a lover of good food and drink, book your place on the @restaurantigni website (hit the link in their bio). See you there

03.01.2022 Our Golden and Red Wild Ales were created as a perfect companion to a meal. Try mixing out a wine for a wild ale next time you cook up something special. What are your favourite wild ale pairings?

03.01.2022 Our Red Wild Ale started back in 2015 when we put our first lot of beer in oak. It then spent four glorious years fermenting, developing interesting and complex flavours, before we created and released our first blend

02.01.2022 Happy International Women's Day! Today's a good a day as any to intro myself, the second half Black Arts, Chelsie. You'll often find me behind the scenes, working on the branding and marketing. And as it gets busier, around the brewery helping Josh where I can.

02.01.2022 Come visit our barrel room! We're open next Saturday 13 March. We have some delicious wild ales on tap, plus some limited release bottles that aren't available anywhere else (not even online).
