In these new unprecedented times, where the world is currently managing the affects and restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Black Diamond Aviation is carefully working within the boundaries of the Australian Government, the Northern Territory Government and various Land Councils. ... There are some important information our passengers need to know too, and we have provided an update below: The Chief Minister of the Northern Territory introduced strict border controls for the Northern Territory, meaning that from 24 March 2020 anyone arriving from interstate or overseas will have to self isolate. These restrictions were then tighten with the The Chief Minister of the Northern Territory announcing that from midnight 1 April 2020, all travellers entering the Northern Territory from interstate including Territorians returning home will be required to spend 14 days in forced quarantine, not self-quarantine. This measure also applies to people returning from overseas. To ensure we work within these new travel restrictions, Black Diamond Aviation will now require every passenger to present the following documentation to us at the time of making your travel booking and again prior to boarding our aircraft: If you have entered the Northern Territory on or after 24 March 2020, evidence of 14-days in isolation A copy of your Designated Area Compliance Form A valid Land Council permit, allowing you to enter a biosecurity zone/area If you are an Essential Worker, you must present your AREW ID Card If you are travelling for work, a letter of support from your employer confirming your work in a biosecurity zone/area For copies of the above forms, please visit: http://www.blackdiamondaviation.com.au/covid-19-updates.html

Currently collating stories of all of his adventures, it will make for the most intriguing book you would ever read! Phil has been an adventure man from a young age. Growing up in a RAAF family he lived and got to experience the vibrance of many towns and cities around Australia. His love for flying started here too, and allowed for unforgettable experiences. Phil once was privileged to experienc...e flying in a RAAF B200 King Air, and on other occasion fly in a PC-9 training aircraft. Knowing he was going to make a career as a pilot, Phil took every opportunity to learn about the aviation industry, even spending a week doing work experience in an Air Traffic Control tower. After completing his Bachelor Degree in Aviation and obtaining his Commercial Pilots licence, Phil worked at a B737 Flight Simulator centre where he developed an extensive understanding of operating aircraft. His time here reenforced his need to get in the air, and so for his first flying job Phil worked as an Aerial Survey Pilot taking survey photos of our vast country. Phils commitment to General Aviation saw him gain extensive flying experience, which he now applies to flying with Black Diamond Aviation. Our Chief Pilot oversees our overall operations and is responsible for providing a strategic direction to our business by setting the operational requirements, policies, and processes that supports the safe, efficient and reliable operation of our aircraft.... In addition to this, our Chief Pilot also manages our flight and ground crews - ensuring their health, welfare and fatigue levels are well within limits by proper rostering and allocating these personnel to tasks. Our Chief Pilot also coordinates our aircraft maintenance, schedules our flights, and is responsible for aircrew training, which in itself is a huge job! To be a Chief Pilot, you must be able to do everything listed above, plus stay up to date with local and federal flight regulations, as well as stay current with your own flight qualifications. 09.01.2022 Introducing Matt, Matty, Normo! He is the guy with the mo! And when you have one of those, you are automatically known as the down-to-earth and sensible one. This is our Normo' - he is the mature one of our team! Growing up in the country Matt enjoyed motorbike riding, fishing, football and cricket - but his one true passion was to be a pilot. So whilst he was still in school, he flew part time. This wasnt enough however - he wanted to make a career out of it - so as soon... as school was out, Matt worked full time and saved every penny to fund his flying career. Matt started his aviation career as a ground handler in Melbourne, learning everything he can about the industry. His experience was wide ranged and included organising customs and quarantine, operating airside assisting medical crew and ambulances, escorting passengers and crew, towing aircraft and baggage handing - gaining valuable knowledge of what occurs on the preparation and planning side of aviation. The time Matt spend here also allowed him to understand the unpredictability of aviation, and gave him all the tools he needed to build a solid foundation as a commercial pilot. Matt worked as a Low Level Survey Pilot throughout New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia - experience that not only taught Matt how to work independently and as a team member, but also how to handle an aircraft with accuracy and absolute precision. We are pretty stoked to have Matt as a part of our team! His work as an IFR-charter pilot has been meticulous, flying into remote short-dirt airstrips with ease. 02.01.2022 The two types of flying: VFR and IFR Visual Flight Rules (VFR) requires a pilot to visually see where they are flying. A VFR flight can only be conducted in relatively clear weather conditions so outside cues such as the horizon, the ocean, terrain features and other aircraft are clear and visible from a sufficient distance and the pilot can maintain orientation, navigation and separation. Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) requires a pilot to fly an aircraft by reference to instr...uments and removes some of the limitations that would otherwise prevent a VFR flight from commencing. An IFR flight is conducted when it is not safe to operate under the VFR and because the visual cues outside the aircraft are obscured by cloud or rain. Procedures and training for IFR flying are significantly more complex compared to VFR flights. Pilots must demonstrate competency in conducting an entire cross-country flight solely by reference to their instruments, but also be able to meticulously evaluate weather and create a detailed flight plan. Flying by instruments, without any outside references sounds dangerous, but it is very safe if your pilot has received the proper training. Knowing their aircraft, its capabilities, how to use navigational aids, how to fly approaches using instrument procedures, comprehensive study of weather systems and reports, and how the human body responds to spatial disorientation is vital prior to conducting an IFR flight. At Black Diamond Aviation, your safety is our highest priority and to ensure we deliver on this promise, we train for all-weather events. Our pilots have recently completed their annual Instrument Proficiency Checks in a local flight simulator, as well as enjoyed several hours of ground instruction and training in the aircraft.
