25.01.2022 8:30am Bushfire Update

22.01.2022 Today is the Blackheath Community Carols. With all the stress of fires if the last few weeks, come along for a fun filled afternoon in the park. We will be there selling sausage sandwiches and have a collection point for any donations to be dropped off to support our volunteers. Any excess donations that we dont use at the end of the fire will be donated back to the homeless community.

22.01.2022 Emergency Level warning Blackheath it is too late to leave if in the Hat Hill area. Seek shelter and monitor for alerts. All resources available are being deployed but there will not be enough for every house

21.01.2022 You may have woken to the sight of snow about this morning. Please be aware of ongoing cold and windy conditions across the weekend. Ensure loose items in your yard are secured and if on the road, drive to the conditions.

21.01.2022 Good evening everyone. We have been completely overwhelmed by the amount of donations we have received, both the physical ones and financial ones. We truely do live in an amazing community and we are very thankful for all your support. The fire activity is continuing currently in both Blackheath and Mt Victoria, please be alert but not alarmed. We havent been able to update you as much as we would like, however we are currently crewing our trucks around the clock. Its been... a trying week for us, just as Im sure it has been for all of you. For updates continue to monitor the Fires Near Me App or the NSW RFS website.

21.01.2022 Making use of the cooler weather to heat up a spot of dinner, on the back of the backburn down tablelands road.

21.01.2022 Please be aware of the extensive back burning operations currently underway all around our town. Our crews continue to assist daily in these operations. We thank you for the ongoing offers of supplies. These have been greatly appreciated. As we continue these will continue to be invaluable to us. As we are often not at the station to accept drop offs we have set the following times to aid in dropping off.... * Tomorrow at Blackheath Community Carols * Monday and Wednesday mornings - 10am to 11am * By appointment if you private message us

21.01.2022 Yesterday saw a big day in both Blackheath and Mt Victoria with a major firefighting effort. Many close calls for our crews, who were all able to go home safely thanks to their training and preparation. Thanks to everyone that came to help us out. Overnight saw increased fire activity along Hat Hill Rd with multiple properties directly impacted by fire. Properties in Rodriguez and Connaught have been door knocked to prepare for impending fire impact today.... Today will see more direct firefighting and containment lines established. Please continue to monitor the fire situation and continue to enact your bushfire plan.

19.01.2022 Thanks to all out looking today. A great result.

18.01.2022 Good news this afternoon with all fires in the Blue Mountains under control. This doesnt mean that they are out. It doesnt mean fire fighting operations are over. Crews will continue work on these fires to ensure they stay contained and then extinguished. The prospect of good rain this week will hopefully see an end to the fires sooner rather than later.... Once again we thank everyone for your ongoing support.

17.01.2022 To the residents of Blackheath, if you are not in an emergency alert area, now is the time to calmly leave the area if that is part of your Bushfire Survival plan. Conditions are rapidly deteriorating and further emergency alerts are likely. Please be sure to check on your neighbours before leaving.... Please be aware that the road is currently OPEN to Katoomba. No coming in but going out is ok

16.01.2022 Today marks the offical end to the Bushfire Season. To all those that have so generously supported us across the season, we once again say thank you. Whilst this is the end of the bushfire season, it does not mean here will be no fires and it is not the end to our volunteers turning out to assist the community.... Despite current restrictions, we are still available when required.

16.01.2022 9am Bushfire Update

15.01.2022 You all know the weather today, so we will just repeat, that the fire activity in and around Blackheath and Mt Victoria poses serious risk. The wind direction can change suddenly and so please stay alert. Be be aware of smoke levels. If it clears then fire is likely moving away and if it suddenly becomes smokey, this is a sign that things have changed and to be alert. Continue to monitor fires near me. The app had been fixed and only actual alert changes are occurring now.

15.01.2022 As we head into Christmas, our members along with many others, continue to work on establishing containment lines. Despite some light rain, work is still progressing for now. This work will continue to be very visible, so do not be alarmed, and only call Triple Zero (000) if you see an unattended fire. Crews will continue the work through Christmas Day and beyond (weather permitting), ahead of forecasted deteriorating weather over the weekend.

15.01.2022 Wow. Just wow is all we can say. So much love and support for not only for each other as a community but for all the fire and emergency services that have been (and still are) involved in the fire fighting effort. #ProudlyBlueMountains

14.01.2022 Note there is fire burning towards the end of Hat Hill Rd towards Bell and Darling Causeway. The threat to Blackheath will be with a wind change, please be alert to change in smoke level which would indicate potential for fire to start heading back towards town. For those in Mt Victoria, Bell and Clarence areas, listen to updates on ABC radio and NSW RFS website and Facebook for the latest updates.... Unfortunately for operational reasons this page is not always monitored and should not be relied on for the latest information. A few comments based on what we have heard: * now is the time to enact your bushfire survival plan * if leaving do so early * RFS will not be able to help you evacuate. Allow time and seek assistance early. * lots of people are taking the warning seriously and getting ready and have a plan - thank you for this.

14.01.2022 Please find attached the latest local Bushfire Information.

14.01.2022 Thanks Wentworth Falls Rural Fire Brigade for the comprehensive update of current fire conditions locally.

14.01.2022 Today the RFS commissioner finished his last day before staring a new role with Resilience NSW. As a brigade we are indebted to the unwavering leadership that Shane has provided over many years. The legacy that has been left provides a powerful model for our leaders to grow in their leadership. We thank you Shane for everything that you have given to so many.

14.01.2022 Bushfire Media Conference Sunday 5th January - 8am

14.01.2022 The Grose Valley fire has now been listed as contained. This does not mean it is time to be complacent. The weather over the coming days will still put pressure on containment lines, so we ask that all remain vigilant and continue to call triple zero (000) if you see a fire with no fire trick in attendance. Also monitor Fires near me and the RFS website (www.rfs.nsw.gov.au) for changes in alert levels. We again thank you, our community for your ongoing support and encouragement.

08.01.2022 Its with sadness we announce that Santa wont be doing the rounds on our fire truck this year. The big fella has been hard at work volunteering his time on the fire ground, whilst still juggling his full time employment and family duties (like all our members). Hell need to rest up this afternoon before he gets on with his biggest night of the year. From the The Blackheath/Mt Victoria Rural Fire Brigade we wish you a safe and Merry Christmas. ...

08.01.2022 Live Bushfire update at 11am

07.01.2022 The fire in the Grose Valley has officially been renamed Grose Valley fire from Gospers. This will aid in identification, especially when changes occur that are not relevant to our area. The fire continues to burn North of Hat Hill and around the Darling Causeway. Continue to monitor the offical RFS channels and ABC radio for the latest updates. Today and into the night you will see a lot of activity between Blackheath and Mt Victoria as strategic containment lines are co...nstructed. This will involve extensive back burning along the Northern Strategic Line. Tomorrows weather is predicted to particularly severe and we thank everyone that has taken the advise and prepared early. It is not to late however, so enact your plan NOW. Information sessions will continue daily at Blackheath and Mt Victoria RFS stations 10am to 12pm and then again at 5pm to 7pm

07.01.2022 Regardless of your thoughts, we all need to play our part to protect ourselves, those we love and our community. Please join us in stopping the spread of COVID-19! Download COVIDSafe, an app from the Australian Government. #COVID19 #coronavirusaustralia https://covidsafe.gov.au

06.01.2022 Mt Victoria is currently under Emergency Level. Shelter in place and be aware of the impending fire risk. It is too late to leave with many road closures in place across Blackheath and Mt Victoria.

05.01.2022 This afternoon the brigade was called out to a Legal Pile Burn. It is a great opportunity for us to let you know about how you can let the RFS know of your planned burning. As of today, http://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify has gone live to allow easy notification online when you are intending to carry out any burning activity.

05.01.2022 Another busy day for the brigade. Once the increased threat passed this morning to both Blackheath and Mt Victoria, work continued to implement containment lines. You will see increased for activity over the coming days as brigades work to put in extensive back burns to consolidate containment lines from Mt Victoria all the way down to the lower mountains. We are very grateful to the many brigades from across the Blue Mountains and further afield that came to assist protectin...g our community. Here is a short video of the fire coming up Govetts Leap Lookout

04.01.2022 Our crews continue to work around the clock on the fire in Megalong and now out and around Mt Tomah. With the fire crossing the Bells Line of Road into the Grose Valley, the risk to the Blue Mountains community has been elevated. Now is the time to continue your preparations. Being complacent is a recipe for disaster.... What is YOUR Plan - now is the time to implement it. If you dont have a plan make it today.

03.01.2022 Currently we have a crew working down on the fires in the Badja Forest in Narooma. Our first crew returns today after 5 days away, having been replaced before the next crew departs this coming Saturday. There is lots of work being done preparing for the onset of some potentially difficult fire behaviour.... Locally, we expect to see fire dangers elevate, so we ask you all to remain vigilant and call if you see an unattended fire. It is likely that we will see some pockets of fire activity from well within the burnt areas.

02.01.2022 After fighting bushfires for the last few months, our volunteers have turned their attention to helping with storm and flood damage the last few days. With the ongoing torrential rain, many very large trees have come down causing very hazardous situations with powerlines down, cars damaged and many residences access blocked. Please make sure you stay at least 8m (2 car lengths) away from any fallen powerlines.... If you need assistance, please call the NSW SES on 132500. Tomorrow we will send a crew to assist in the Sydney region as well as maintaining people to assist locally.

01.01.2022 Fire activity increasing in the Evans Lookout Rd area.
