25.01.2022 My workshop/studio in Warrandyte

24.01.2022 Not happy or bored with a current picture or framing? Here's an example of bringing an Aboriginal acrylic on canvas to life with a different approach. Before 1&2 and after, 3&4.

23.01.2022 These newspapers were discovered under the floorboards in a house in Hawthorn, Melbourne. They were heavily discoloured, the paper was a bit brittle and partially torn but considering they are from 1918 in very good condition. I framed them using special tape hinges hanging on a mount sitting proud and fixed to a matboard as background. A simple black satin finish frame rounded everything off.

22.01.2022 Antique map of Africa by John Bartholomew / William McKenzie London circa 1880. Framed with a silver/gilt frame and a gold fillet.

22.01.2022 Dear Customers and Friends. Black Ink Framing will be taking a break for most of 2019 as we have decided to travel. We will resume normal business as soon as we are back. Thanks to all for your ongoing custom and entrusting me with your precious artworks. I hope to be of service again in the future. Best wishes. Simon

22.01.2022 A recent work - a textile painting from Vietnam done by a visually impaired artist. Wrapped around a foam board mounting and set in a shadow box. The one image shows the extraordinary thread work on the reverse side of the art.

20.01.2022 At Art&Frame Expo -

18.01.2022 Just completed the largest gallery wrap done at Black Ink Framing - this 2.4m 1.0m stunning Aboriginal acrylic on canvas.

17.01.2022 A big thank you to all my customers for entrusting me with your precious artworks. We’ve done some really interesting and beautiful pieces recently. A very popular trend seems to be canvases in a float frame of raw timber, often with a black ‘facia’ and natural sides. It certainly enhances the canvas and is a great alternative to a simple gallery wrap. It’s always good to get a nice selection of subjects to really bring to life. Here’s a selection of artworks framed over the past few weeks.

16.01.2022 To all customers and friends of Black Ink Framing. We are finally back from our travels and will reopen for business on Monday 17th February. I look forward to helping you with your framing needs again. See you soon, Simon

14.01.2022 Oil by regional artist Stephen Deutscher of the Victorian state forests. Can you see the fwd?

14.01.2022 More Hawthorn limited edition memorabilia framed in a contemporary walnut stain timber frame and an off white matboard.

13.01.2022 Wonderful Aboriginal acrylic on canvas 2m x 840mm from Alice Springs. 'Stretched' and then mounted in a floater frame to set it off.

12.01.2022 I always take particular pleasure in framing artwork that fires the passion for a hobby. This time its trains. Two technical prints showing Victorias and Melbournes railway history are up for framing. Lets see what we can do with these.....

12.01.2022 Just completed this stunning acrylic on canvas from Myanmar - we decided to do a simple gallery wrap and the result was a happy customer:-)

12.01.2022 Just completed some interesting framings all bought on clients' travels: Papyrus painting from Egypt; Acrylic on canvas - Papua New Guinea and a knife and scabbard from Egypt mounted in a shadow box frame.

11.01.2022 A black shadow box and raw timber frame sets off the natural colours and texture of these felt works by Kristen De Landre. This method also works well for other fabrics.

11.01.2022 1.5x1.5m square canvas stretch in black floating frame to set off this beautiful piece.

10.01.2022 A few interesting artworks for framing this past week. An antique map of Oceania, the Title Deeds of a 120 year old Hawthorn house, a water colour from Krakow, Poland and a Paink Marilyn Monroe acrylic print.

10.01.2022 The final products. These two pieces display some of the history of the Victorian rail Network and the Melbourne rail routes. The challenge was to to keep these very technical drawings appealing to the eye and ensure the frame and mat boards were simple and elegant.

09.01.2022 Just framed this stunning Roofus silk screen print in a deep raw ash frame and a black spacer to set it off. Also a pair of proteas in acrylic in a plain white frame and a clear spacer for depth.

08.01.2022 I recently did some work for talented local textile artist Teresa Luttrell. The artworks were framed in a raw ash shadow box effect to set them off. These intricate 'paintings' are done with machine thread delicately applied to silk and watercolours.

06.01.2022 Just finished this dressing room mirror. So if you need a bespoke mirror send me a message or give me a call.

05.01.2022 A selection of ideas of how you can display and preserve your various artworks and memorabilia.

05.01.2022 Some very interesting framing opportunities this past week. An antique map of Oceania, the Title Deeds from a Hawthorn residence, an original watercolour from Krakow, Poland and a Paink acrylic print of Marilyn Monroe.

05.01.2022 Beautiful Aboriginal painting on canvas stretched and set in a floating frame of raw timber which sets off the natural colours of the art.

05.01.2022 Has all your hard work and toil been kept rolled up in a cupboard somewhere? Why not have your certificate custom framed and display it proudly?

04.01.2022 Recent additions to the photo gallery: Oils on canvas by Swiss artist Max Kessler stretched and then set in a floating frame. The frames were hand painted in subtle colours found in the paintings.

02.01.2022 Some beautiful artworks completed during this latest lockdown. A big thank-you to all my customers

01.01.2022 Recent framings done for local clients........Hawks " back to back to back posters". Original architects drawings of your house. Felting by Kirsten De Landre, Original sepia photograph, Original Alexandra Nechita, Butterfly postcards from the Warrandyte Market and a colourful Indian acrylic on canvas in a floating frame.

01.01.2022 Doing a framing job during social distancing and being responsible could be a bit tricky, especially deciding on the frame and layout etc. But thanks to a very trusting customer, I was able to send photo mockups of what I had in mind and finish the job without any of the materials being seen. The finished product was this trio of shadow boxed computer motherboards. Its great to get interesting and challenging framing projects so if you have a framing job and are happy to let me have a virtual consultation, send me a message.
