25.01.2022 Ok! We have keys now to our new place... sooo we are pleased to announce.... We will be in the Zone on the corner of Kingston and Compton Rds in the vacant shop next to Rebel Sport! More details to come soon...

25.01.2022 Hey BLMA family... From all of us here at BLMA... we want to wish each and every one of you a happy holiday season.. We understand this has been a difficult year for almost everyone but life really IS defined by how you get back up when you've been knocked down... No one is expecting, nor should you expect, that you should bounce back perfectly from this situation as if nothing happened and everything is now normal. We have been lucky here in Australia, and Queensland in ...particular, but that doesn't mean that many of you haven't suffered greatly or that you won't continue to have some difficulties in the months and years ahead. But life is always going to give us challenges... it's how we respond that matters. Do your best or at least try in any small way to move forward, no matter the hurdles, and you will inevitably learn great and deeply meaningful lessons along the way. Believe in yourself, as we do, and you will come through this with a wisdom that can only be gained through experience. Love to each and every one of you and your families... Happy holidays!!!

23.01.2022 Hi everyone... I just wanted to do a check in with everyone as we will continue to do over the period we are on hold. Again first and foremost look after your health, physical and mental, right now. This is not the end of the world but it is a trying time to be sure. We are looking into creating some online options to support you all so we can come back at a running pace when we do. More details on this later... We will try to post regularly and keep you updated or just... try to lighten your day like with the attached video of kittens playing Take care... be smart... wash hands... stay safe... Talk soon Sifu

23.01.2022 Some more progress pictures... Doesn't look like heaps but we did a lot of work sorting through things... The office area still needs work but training space is looking good for now...

22.01.2022 Hey everyone... we are working on the mix of technology to use for online training. Some testing was done last night and well do more tonight... We should hopefully have a starting framework and details out to everyone by the end of the week. Take care of yourselves and keep practicing!!

22.01.2022 Hey all First class of yoga last week was great for loosening those tight muscles. Second class is tonight 6:30pm... bring a yoga mat if you can but could be done without if you don't have one... You even get a chance to see your Sifu try to twist himself into a pretzel right along side you... See you there!

22.01.2022 Hi all, just a quick update... paperwork is being drawn up now on a new (temp) location for BLMA ... My hope is everything can be sorted and we can start lessons there again possibly by next week... Many of you have probably seen the news and updated restrictions... We will have a Covid safe plan in place at the new location so at the present time we should still be ok to start training, even in groups over 10. Thank you again for your patience...... ~Sifu and your BLMA instructors

21.01.2022 Hey everyone, Yoga is on again tonight! Last class before we close for 2020.... has been a crazy wild ride this year so come on down and loosen up those muscles. These are very beginner classes so don't worry that you will be asked to stand on your head like in the pic :P No experience required... Mat is advised but not essential just to give it a go...... So come on down to the school at 6:30 and try it out! See you there :)

21.01.2022 Zhang Sanfeng, a prominent Taoist martial artist and credited with founding Tai Chi Chuan, has four principles of self defense. While these tai chi principles a...re certainly helpful for dealing with physical attacks and protecting your physical health, they can also be useful in protecting your mental health and the health of our communities. They are especially important in our communitys experience about this pandemic today. Calm against action- Another way to think about this is calm against the chaos. Its easy to get swept up in the panic when words are swung about like pandemic and quarantine and school-closures. One way to stay calm is to educate yourself to avoid panic or overthinking and verify your sources of information, which also means to read the whole article, not just the headline. When someone posts an article with a headline like Federal Government Calls for 2-Week Shutdon of Restaurants, it seems that we are encouraged to rush to the store and buy all the food because we wont be able to eat for two weeks and this kind of thinking leads people to go and panic buy (is the TP back in stock, yet?). But if you stop, stay calm, and read the article, youll find out that a recommendation about this does not mean that all states are doing it and that food can still be picked up or delivered, just in-restaurant dining will be curbed or adjusted. So staying calm and reading all the information, not just the sound bites, can help us not get swept into fear, panic, and irrational thinking. While we need to be prepared, we can be calm about it. In the immortal words of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, which turns 42 this year, Dont panic, but dont forget your towel. As always, its important to continue to exercise in times of stress, so still practice your Tai Chi and Kung Fu. Exercise will help improve your immune system to help combat diseases as well as decrease your stress. And we need stronger minds and bodies more than ever right now. To be continued...

21.01.2022 Ohhh, santa sabe choy Li fut!! Wow.

21.01.2022 Hey Everyone Well if nothing else, 2020 has certainly been interesting... I think the word that would best describe this year would be turmoil. For some, they have found new directions and opportunities amidst the chaos, but for so many more, this has been a challenging and indeed heartbreaking year. ... We are all strong enough to meet this challenge however! Uncertainty=Variety Like every situation in life, your perspective determines everything... I believe next year will have its challenges but again, we can do this... Rely on your friends and lean on your family and we can continue to grow, no matter what the situation... Specific to our family, we are going to be making the effort to grow our family this year and bring back some of the classes we have been forced to put on hold. Our sister yoga school will be growing as well. As you can see in the pictures, we have made our temporary school a little more semi permanent by anchoring the wooden dummy and wall bag(on a post-'post bag'?) to the ground. The recent outbreak has halted some progress with restrictions but don't let it halt your progress! We look forward to seeing you in the school for some kung fu, tai chi, and even some yoga in the new year! All the best...

21.01.2022 Hey everyone... we have great news! We have found a new temporary location for training... St Peters on Rochedale Rd in Rochedale, not far from where we usually hold our tournaments. One of our BLMA family is the principal and we have been able to take advantage of their hall availability for Thursday and Saturday for the time being. We were thinking about having a meeting there with everyone on Thursday to talk through things but the restrictions still limit us to 20 peopl...e without jumping through hoops which isnt necessary since the next easing level will happen a week later on the 10th. So we are going to aim for a zoom call with everyone on Thursday this week from 6pm for half an hour. On this call we will discuss our altered training arrangements both for covid and taking into account changes due to the effects of covid and not having a fixed location at present. We will send out a zoom call invite by text or email to everyone soon. To answer an important question many of you might have upfront, we have every intention of getting back to a fixed location with more training day options but we have to take into account many factors right now as discussed in previous posts. We are looking for something suitable and will continue this search but in the meantime, we are very excited to welcome you all back to training in this new location. Cant wait to get back into the training with everyone! ~Sifu

21.01.2022 Hey everyone... here is a long video I just made about the current state of things... This just pretty much came from the heart so please forgive the length and lack of structure... Let me be very clear... Black Lives Matter! For ANYONE out there confused by that phrase I will explain... No one is saying black lives matter more. No one is saying white lives dont matter. I find it very hard to believe that there are genuinely many people who dont understand this. Th...e point of the phrase is to say Black Lives Matter (too... and just as much as any other lives because historically they have not... with even the founders of America enshrining into the constitution the idea that black people are worth only 3/5 of a white man ... and Australians are not off the hook either when you look at the incredible inequity we see here in the percentages of black men in Australian prisons as compared to their percentage in the population as a whole) It is inequality that creates the ugliness we see right now... it is cowardice of leaders that leads to its perpetuation.... and it is the silence and comfort of the unoppressed that gives us moments like George Floyd because we are too cowed to stand against the bullies... Eventually the ugliness of an unjust world will find each and every one of us unless we do something to change it... Be the change you want to see...

20.01.2022 Hey everyone Wow, what interesting times we find ourselves in hey? It is quite unique to have the entire planet affected by multiple serious situations all at once. For many of you that I have been in contact with, this is overwhelming. For others, it is challenging and you might feel up and down emotionally. Others are tired and bored and just want to get to a new normal on the other side. Many more are simply lost and not sure about much of anything right now... The...Continue reading

19.01.2022 We would like to thank everyone for all your support over the years and during this trying time. We have our last ever class at this location happening right now! If you have any weapons or gear left at the school, Sihing Forward will be at the school on Monday between 6-7pm so that you can pick these up. Otherwise they will be going into storage until we open at our new location. Keep practising, stay healthy!! Your BLMA team

19.01.2022 2nd update - looks like this was going to be out of our hands soon anyway... I have been contacted by the school where we temporarily train and they have been asked by the Catholic school system not to allow outside people to rent halls etc until at least the end of august... It only takes a couple people doing the wrong thing to hurt a whole lot of people...... We will have discussions on next steps amongst the instructors but we might have to go back to online lessons for the time being... Note that this is very much not the fault of St Peters... they have been incredibly supportive and generous to the BLMA community. They are doing what is right to protect the children they are responsible for and we should applaud them for that. Also, to be clear, had we still been in a leased location we likely would have had serious difficulties and possibly not survived as a school through all this so while we understand your frustration, please understand we share that frustration but also understand how lucky we are. We are healthy and we are strong and we WILL be back in some way shape or form just as soon as we can. Thank you for your patience...

18.01.2022 Hey everyone... We here at BLMA want to wish everyone the happiest of holidays! We feel very blessed to have you all as friends and family of our little community, and we wish you the very best at this time of year with your own family and friends... It takes courage to give of yourself... not presents but kindness, caring, recognition, and love. We have been led to believe these are finite resources but they are really limitless so be brave and share as much love as you can within your own world and create the kind of world you want to live in... All the best from your BLMA team!

18.01.2022 Hey everyone, Tonight is our first yoga session of 2021... 6:30pm to 7:30pm For those who joined us last year, welcome back, and if you haven't tried it out yet, stop by tonight and give it a try... ... We are going to make tonight's class free so you can try it out and to say thank you to those who tried it last year... You don't have to have any experience or be super flexible to try yoga so come on down to the school and give it a try! And tell a friend or family member to come along... the more the merrier... We look forward to seeing you there!

17.01.2022 Hi all... Yoga tonight 6:30-7:30 pm Yes we will need to wear masks... We know that's not the most comfortable situation but try not to let things like that hold you back from anything that will make you stronger in the long run...... See you there!

17.01.2022 Hey all, To answer your questions from the previous post... Kids under 12 don't have to wear masks but we're recommending you do but we'll leave it up to your choice, especially the little ones since they would have the most trouble keeping masks on.

17.01.2022 Good evening all... Understandably the news of the day has hit some of you pretty hard and you have questions about what this means for your safety and the safety of your kids with regards to all aspects of life but also in particular with the BLMA training as well. First off, we want to stress that the safety of every member of the BLMA family is our highest priority. It has always been my expectation that we would see things like this happen because we unfortunately canno...Continue reading

17.01.2022 Hi all.... I made this video originally for just the BLMA family but I realised that it might be helpful to the wider audience out there of people trying to manage a new training paradigm in lockdown. This is just a quick video about having confidence and not worrying about perfection in your videos so you can continue your training with guidance from your instructors. But this would also apply to any other type of video training or meetings etc you might be dealing with in... the other areas of your life. Just have a go is the simple advice....you WILL make mistakes as we are all human but have a go because it makes you more relatable anyway to all the rest of us who also make mistakes. The only people who will make fun of your mistakes are the most shallow, sad people who deserve to be pitied for their trivial view of the world. Their opinion is not worth anything so focus only on those people who you respect and who respect you who will always choose to support you rather than make you feel worse about yourself. Choose to participate and be confident in the fact that your best in that moment really is good enough! ~Sifu

16.01.2022 A lil Aussie humour for ya...

16.01.2022 Hey all Our sister organisation for yoga will be kicking off beginner's classes next Thursday the 3rd of December. These will run from 6:30-7:30pm. This is meant to be late enough to let people who work in the city get there but not so late you have to eat beforehand as it's better to do yoga with less in your stomach. Feel free to have light snacks to ward off hunger but try to avoid large meals just prior to training. As this is a beginner's class the only thing you need... is a yoga mat and comfortable clothes. At some point in the future there may be mats for sale but for now if you need one, they can be sourced at many places for anywhere from 5 to 30 dollars. For now these classes will run on a per class fee basis of $15. More classes will be added as demand grows. One key aspect that will make this yoga experience different is that you will have the opportunity to learn the yoga in a parallel to the way we teach our martial arts curriculum. These beginner's classes will run very casually like a typical yoga class so if you just want to have the workout/ stretch that is fine. However, the teachers will be offering the knowledge around yoga as well and eventually there will be the OPTION to extend your yoga training with private, focused lessons, that allow you to grow and take those lessons with you in the future. Once again, this is open to all, so let your friends and family know or bring a group with you and start, or continue, your yoga journey! Namaste

16.01.2022 Wishing Happy Birthday to Mr McMillan and Ms Koorneef over the last few weeks, we hope that your day was fantastic!

15.01.2022 Hey everyone, A pictorial update... we worked very hard yesterday and got part of the new school set up but you will also note there is still a lot of work to go sorting through stuff. We also need to document clear covid safe strategies and get everyone organised on the new time schedule. We were really hoping to make it happen by Wednesday but that just doesnt seem likely or possible at this point. But staying positive, you can see a new space that is all our own tak...ing shape. So that we can stop having to move the goalposts, we are simply going to aim for next Monday to start with new classes and lessons in the new school. We will be sending out a lot of information on the BLMA Family private group so keep an eye out for that. Very exciting...

15.01.2022 Hi all As we predicted this year is going to start off with our first down of the up and down... We will have more to say later but unfortunately will need to be closed on Saturday 9/01/2021 at the minimum. ... Thank you for your support and understanding...

14.01.2022 Hey all, Quick update... have been told the paperwork should be to me tomorrow and then the place just needs to be cleared out... Had hoped wed be back to training this week but apparently there is a backlog. Soon though we will be back! ~Sifu

14.01.2022 Hey all, We have started the move into the new place. The hope was that we would be able to start classes Monday but due to delays in getting a truck to move some really big items, we are still going to be sorting through things at the start of the week so we will aim for Weds at this point. Very excited seeing how pumped you all are to return and appreciate the offers of help but we got it covered for now, thanks!... Will let you know more details as soon as possible...

14.01.2022 You can always count on Martial Arts.

12.01.2022 Hey everyone... we are actively looking for potential other options for training halls and have a couple leads that we will be looking into this week. This is a very tricky time for a business like ours so we appreciate your understanding and support. Will keep you updated...

12.01.2022 Hey everyone look here!

11.01.2022 Just a reminder everyone for first open class of yoga on this Thursday from 630-730 pm... Open to all so bring your friends and family! Don't forget to grab a yoga mat to bring with you...... See you there...

09.01.2022 Hey everyone, We are restarting tomorrow at the Zone and we will be sending out a couple emails with the restart plans and details as well as a detailed look at our covid safe policies. In short, the classes will run like so:... Mon and Wed 5:30pm Kids Group 6:00pm Tai Chi 7:00pm Adults Group 7:30 Adults Group 2 Tues 5:30pm Kids Advanced - Green and up 6:30pm Adults Intermediate (Focused on Yellow and Green levels but open to all Yellow and above) 7:00pm Adults Advanced - Blue and above Saturday 10am Kids Group 12:00pm Adults Group 12:30pm Adults Group 2 1:00pm Stretching We will continue the $20 a week structure until we have a chance to talk to each of you and get you set back up on normal memberships. We are hoping to accomplish this in the first couple weeks we are reopened but we are short staffed right now. More details later in the emails... Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon! ~Sifu

09.01.2022 Hey all Just an update... we have been working very hard to finish off the old school for handover to the landlords on Sunday as you can see in the pictures... It is sad to say goodbye but there WILL be a light at the end of this tunnel... In the meantime we have been working on our online strategy for lessons to keep you going and will be reviewing it with instructors soon and rolling it out next week. In the meantime keep practicing! Stay focused... This moment in life w...ill be a memory in years to come but it highlights how important your health is so do your kung fu and tai chi and stay fit while you stay home! Sending our love out to the BLMA family at this time...

09.01.2022 Yes we are open on Monday the public holiday...

08.01.2022 Happy Tuesday everyone... Unfortunately the paperwork has taken much longer than expected but I saw a draft last night and have been told I SHOULD have final paperwork today. So, understanding nothing is concrete yet until the paperwork is signed I will let you all know that we are moving to a location that is two blocks from the old school and we are expecting to start training on Monday next week 14th Sept. Please be understanding that it might take a few days or so to g...et classes and private lessons sorted but we will do our best to contact everyone as soon as we can. We are very excited to see you all back in our own training location but we want to advise that we will need to be extremely strict on covid safe practices given there is community transmission all over the south side of Brisbane. We simply have to take this seriously, but if we do, we can get back to having an awesome time learning these great martial arts. We will send out more information as we get closer to the time and paperwork is finalised... All the best ~Sifu

07.01.2022 Hey all, Well it looks like Covid is backing off enough Australia wide that we can start to ease our restrictions within the school. As of Monday next week, barring any significant changes in community transmission, we will be no longer checking temps at the front desk. We ask of course that if you have flu/ cold symptoms to still stay home for everyone's sake. You can now warm up inside the school without having to wait outside but please be respectful of any classes... or lessons. We will start making calls again so be prepared for us to push you a bit to get that martial spirit back into the kung fu! We also will be bringing back sparring classes (including push hands) in the new year. We will let you know when those classes will be on in a follow up post. We will also be putting our wooden dummy and wall bag (on a post) solidly into the floor. We will be closed from 24th December to 3rd January, reopening on the 4th. Finally, your last chance for 2020 to try out our sister yoga school classes will be on this Thursday the 17th at 6:30pm. Come along, bring a friend and relax for the holiday season... Happy holidays everyone... - Your BLMA team

06.01.2022 Hey all... It looks like we may have found a temporary location that has more availability and will suit us better (as in not have to worry about closing to protect the school children) until we are prepared to find a more permanent location. Some details still to sort through but if it works we could be in there fairly soon. Thank you for your patience and we will keep you updated...... BTW we were very lucky to have the option at St Peters so we just want to publicly say thank you...

06.01.2022 Hey all... We ARE back open tonight but masks are mandatory in the school and when/if congregating out the front... All classes and lessons will take place outside if possible... reminder we are a ten minute drive from the hotspot so we have to take this serious even if the numbers are low...... Please do not harass our lovely front desk person if she gently reminds you to wear a mask... These are Qld guidelines and would have been ours anyway to support all those wonderful first responders and others who are struggling through all this... The better we work together to get through this, the faster we can get back to at least a more relaxed state... See you all soon!

06.01.2022 Happy New Years BLMA family and friends!!!Happy New Years BLMA family and friends!!!

05.01.2022 Ok so we have a little more information about this situation and how it affects the school. I always want to be as upfront with everyone as we can. So first off I was notified by my kids school Calamvale Community College that the cleaner was a former student and had friends in year 12. One of the 3 also has siblings that attend in years 1 and 5. My own kids are in years 3 and 8. Secondly a student of BLMA attends one of the affected schools and I personally taught this s...tudent on Thursday of last week after the girls had returned and went about their normal lives. There is no reason to believe that anyone has covid or passed it on at this point. There are no symptoms and none of us have been contact traced as being at risk. The Qld health dept is very happy with how the school has handled things. However, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to take the step of cancelling all lessons and classes for this week meaning Thursday and Saturday until we have more information. For those of you who have already paid for this week we will put that into credit for next week. We will contact you again before next Thursday to keep you abreast of whats happening. Thank you for understanding... ~Sifu

04.01.2022 Hey everyone... Just a quick check in to try to quell some anxiety... Yes we face some very serious challenges ahead and many of us will struggle greatly over this time. We might even lose someone near and dear to us, or loser a job, or even get sick ourselves. But I believe that each and every one of you has the strength to pull through this, no matter how bad it gets. We are a family and we will support each other when all is said and done. I would like to get someth...ing organised soon where we work as a bit of a cooperative community and trade services to help each other out. I will be posting soon with details but in the meantime if anyone is really struggling and needs a hand or just someone to talk to, send me a pm and Ill get back to you as soon as I can. I will also be posting some stuff online soon for the first step of our online system for training we are going to kick off soon... in the meantime, keep practicing while you are self isolating! Its good for the body, mind, and soul. Sorry this is slow to happen but unfortunately there is a lot of work in taking the old school apart to hand it back over. Speaking of which I have a few people helping for electrics and Miss Jacksons parents for painting late next week but I will need a plasterer for early next week to patch and prep some areas before the painting. Obviously we want to do this as cheap as possible right now so if anyone is capable and can help that would be great or if you just know someone that could do it, please pm me to let me know. Finally, I thought Id share some progress pics with you all... its sad for sure to see it going away but I am confident we will be back soon in one form or another. Keep yourselves focused on whats really important and leave the garbage behind... focus on your families and friends and take care of yourself. Give yourself a chance to grieve what might be lost but also look forward to overcoming the challenges that lie ahead and living forward with the strength you gained in the process... We can and will come through this dark tunnel to the shining light of tomorrow... ~ Sifu

04.01.2022 Some more progress pictures... Doesnt look like heaps but we did a lot of work sorting through things... The office area still needs work but training space is looking good for now...

02.01.2022 Hey all... we still have no word yet on whether the official call will be to end the lockdown tonight... It looks likely at this point but based on consultations, we have decided to remain closed just for tonight even if the lockdown is lifted at 6pm tonight. These decisions are difficult so we appreciate your support and understanding... Let's hope this is finished today and we can get back into it tomorrow night. ... Unfortunately we will be going back to the initial restrictions we had in place: All classes to be held outside, weather and circumstances permitting. No calls/yelling in the school No contact equipment Instructors will wear masks when teaching in the school and we MIGHT be required by government to mandate masks in the school for students as well for a period of time. More updates soon...

01.01.2022 Hey everyone.... good news... it looks like we might have a temporary indoor location where we can get back into 1 on 1 and in person training! More details soon

01.01.2022 Hello everyone, Sifu here with a very important message: COVID-19 a.k.a. Coronavirus is coming and its not a joke or something made up by the media. Many of us healthwise will be fine as we are reasonably fit and take our health seriously. The unfortunate reality is that our actions are not just about us, they also impact everyone else we come in to contact with, many of those who might be in the higher risk groups. There WAS a massive overreaction with the Toilet Paper fias...Continue reading

01.01.2022 Happy Birthday to one of our most awesome and longest serving instructors, Sihing Styles! I say serve because that is one thing he does so well, serving his students in the school or at his day job at another type of school. Sihing Styles always has and continues to understand that the greatest form of accomplishment in life is in service to others. Giving his all to his people is just who he is so please join me in saying thank you and wishing him the very best for this year and every year after!!
