25.01.2022 Is this going to be the mythical Anzac Day break?

25.01.2022 Sometimes we question our conservative cropping program. Fallow/brown manure vetch, cereal, fallow/brown manure vetch. At times it seems wasteful. But years like 2018 and this year remind you why you do it. That’s not to say our crops are better than others. Our model is a lower risk, small margin every season. We are aiming to eliminate the losses. These pictures are from a brown manure vetch (2018. Dry sowing using narrow points and press wheels occurred in April/May. 145mm growing season rainfall to date. Average is 210-230mm

24.01.2022 After a couple days off for Christmas we began our summer weed control program on December 29. Ten days and 6000ha later we will wrap up the first round. After a few tidy up jobs it will be an opportune time for a break. One of the joys of summer spraying are the sunrises

21.01.2022 A stunning sunrise on the day we remember those who made sacrifice to ensure our freedom, freedom to enjoy moments like these

20.01.2022 The week in review in pictures

20.01.2022 Round two of summer spraying is almost complete. Surprisingly, after 50mm plus of December rain, there is a sparse second germination. Instinct says this is due to the January heat drying out to surface. With a sparse germination we have brought out the optical sprayer. This weed sensing technology is saving us between 85 - 90% of chemical application on this pass.

16.01.2022 Another load from a happy customer destined for a happy consumer

13.01.2022 The addition of a Frahn Engineering single barrel grain cleaner has enhanced our on farm storage capacity. With the incorporation of air we have been able to lift test weights in grain by up to 2kg/hl. Screen capacity has enabled us to reduce admix from levels or circa 100 grains per half litre down to sub 35, while enduring minimal good grain losses. These processes has taken grain from out of spec and undeliverable to a deliverable product. It compliments our on farm storage capacity

11.01.2022 One of the joys of early mornings and long days during seeding and harvest are the sunrises and sunsets. Here is a small selection of #plant20 to date

07.01.2022 The mallee is beginning to thrive after last weeks rain

07.01.2022 Modern technology is evolving quickly. Today’s tractors are one step removed from driving themselves. They turn themselves around, lift and lower the machine and start and stop planting where required

03.01.2022 Comparing crops across seasons reveals the potential of 2019. It’s now in the hands of Mother Nature All picture wheat, unless marked differently Edit: all of the 2019 crops received nitrogen with the seed at planting, and have had further nitrogen applied prior to the rain event of June 29th. With such a dry summer there was little N mineralisation. This year additional N has been critical to give yield potential

03.01.2022 In 2007 I (Corey) began my Master of Agribusiness degree with the university of Melbourne. The final piece of work in that degree (2009) was to act as a consultant to a business and investigate and find on an issue. For me it was the business case for on farm storage in the SA Mallee. As a result of this work we began the process of building on farm storage. This year we celebrate ten years since it all began. ... We feel very proud of where we started and to where are today. Here’s to the next decade
