22.01.2022 Giving back So happy to be a part of this moment last week. Giralang Primary School - handed their new sports jerseys they won as part of our 2020 Blackshaw Belconnen Dream Sports Jersey Competition. Designed by preschooler, Kiara, with help from her mum and grandma to incorporate Aboriginal symbols for water holes connected by running water, people sitting together, a meeting place, a resting place, plus the Giralang star, which features in the school’s logo. The... jersey was designed by Kiara to pay respect to their suburb’s namesake - Giralang which means star in the Wirajhuri Aboriginal language. Laura Funnell, Physical Education Teacher at Giralang P.S said, We’ve had the same sports jerseys for a whopping decade-and-a-half! Our new shirts will foster team unity and motivate students to proudly represent our school at sport gala days. It’s just wonderful. All of the streets in Giralang are named after Aboriginal words for stars, astronomers and constellations seen from the Southern Hemisphere and at school we continue this theme and have named out sporting houses after constellations. Giralang Primary proudly unveiled their new jerseys at the Woolworths Cricket Smash competition on Monday 2nd November, where they won 4 of their 5 games!
