13.01.2022 Here is a smaller(& cheaper!) option for those chasing there first anvil.

13.01.2022 Stopped in at Boyanup Foundation Blacksmith's at the South-West Rail and Heritage Centre today on the way back to reality. Had a great chat with the esteemed Malcolm Paine (seen at the end of the video). Still forging at 90 yrs young! Picked up a copy of "The General Blacksmith" and had it signed by the man himself. I would recommend anyone interested drop in for a look and a chat.

13.01.2022 It is a sad day that we bid farewell to Kenneth Joseph Jo Mazzarol - Founder of the Blacksmiths Association of Western Australia (BAWA) From a small add placed on a noticeboard in March of 1979 inviting 15 people to an Introduction to the Art of Blacksmithing at Mt Lawley High school. No one would of guessed that this small act by a passionate metalwork teacher would lead to countless generations being entertained and beguiled by the ring of a hammers strike on the anv...il at the Royal Show. I for one will be eternally grateful for this small act that lead to the formation of BAWA and allowed countless people to in Jos own words Learn and Practice this Ancient and Dying Skill So in the words of Henry Wadswoth Longfellow: Thanks, thanks to thee, my worthy friend, For the lesson thou hast taught! Thus at the flaming forge of life Our fortunes must be wrought; Thus on its sounding anvil shaped Each burning deed and thought.

11.01.2022 Bit of light reading for the weekend.

10.01.2022 Great post from a local Smith. Well Manji! Local-ish

10.01.2022 Ok the forge will open tomorrow Saturday 6th Febuary with a few rules to adhere to and no exemptions if you want to attend the forge. 1, Everyone is required to wear a mask at all times and the forge is limited to 10 people maximum as always remembering your distances. 2, It is compulsory if attending the forge to use SafeWA scan in for registration or signing the register in the bright green folder as well along with the club log book. ... 3, We have supplied 2 bottles of hand sanitiser that will be at each entrance and it is to be used. 4, Due to our clubs age demographic I will ask people to think twice if they have traveled interstate or if not feeling well to stay home and get tested. 5, For the next 7 days at least there are to be no visitors or non members using the forge including no introductions. This is as per the governments guidelines to be able to open the club, the masks will be for only a week we hope but every thing else is now common practice and no deviation from the rules. Regards, Nigel Danson, President BAWA.
