24.01.2022 The Heritage listed Broadway Hotel in Woolloongabba still stands tall after prior "mysterious" fires have ravaged it. A strict Stop Order has been placed on the site once again, in a further attempt to stop the potential demolition of the building, which if happened would pave the way for its owner to launch an new development application for a mixed use high rise on the site. The fine placed on this stop order sounds hefty at over $2m AUD, however if the potential profit of a new development on the site if far greater than that, what is stopping them? It also brings up a further thought, if the Stop Order remains, what is the best course of action moving forward? If the building itself can't be salvaged and restored, then what would be the best outcome for this grand old lady of the Gabba?
