11.01.2022 The indemnity principle (not to be confused with indemnity costs) restricts a successful litigant to claiming only the costs their solicitor will charge. But what does that mean in practice? And, more importantly, how does the principle impact on the way solicitors should be charging?

07.01.2022 Its rare for a party to be awarded costs on an indemnity basis. However, one time they will be is where the other party wilfully disregards facts. Our Blackstone Brief explores the decision in MCG Group Pty Ltd v Ftrus Pty Ltd (formerly Fortrus Pty Ltd) [2017] FCA 359 which explored when this exception applied, as well as how long you need to give someone to consider a Calderbank letter before you can rely on it in a claim for indemnity costs.

02.01.2022 What a wonderful night was had at the annual Justin Crosby dinner on the Sunshine Coast. Blackstone Legal Costing was once again privileged to have sponsored the Blackstone Bar and donate a $1,000.00 Myer Voucher. The lucky winner was University Student Jessica Popple from the University of the Sunshine Coast. Congratulations Jessica time to get those shopping shoes on! Blackstone Legal Costing would also like to say a huge congratulations to Pippa Coleman on winning lif...etime member award of 2017 for the Sunshine Coast Law Association. Pippa has been a client of our firm and her hard work with not only lady lawyers, but throughout the whole Sunshine Coast, definitely doesnt go unnoticed. Congratulations Pippa! Special guest, Judge Middleton, took the stage away with an outstanding speech on his experience in the Family Law Courts and what the future of our industry holds. Overall a fabulous night with all money donated going to the Justin Crosby Bursary.
