25.01.2022 WINNER: 'Balancing Act' by Sydney based artist @tamara_pavlovic_artist for BLUE. We are delighted this piece was selected as we had zero say in who won this award! We honestly would have been happy hosting all these guys! That's why they were all in the gallery to begin with! We love 'Balancing Act' though for its grungy vibes, bold bleeds, composition, colour, weird floaty stuff, it just goes on. It was a work our judges unanimously agreed upon as it was a piece they ju...st kept revisiting. Well done Tamara! We have Newcastle super stars Lucas Grogan and Sally Bourke, can you believe it? We can't. Still don't. We also have a curator who has put together some of the most memorable and stunning exhibitions you would have seen in the last decade - the lovely and totally approachable (in case you're wondering artists) Kim Blunt of @maitlandregionalartg...allery. We can't believe that either! Next Saturday night is booked out and some slots are at full capacity during the day. There are some pockets left still though you can get into and should! 22.01.2022 Judgies! Judging has concluded. Winner, audience choice and highly commended announced tomorrow night at 7pm! What a treat having these three absolute guns in our gallery! Thank you so much @xlucasgrogan @justondark and @kimblunt67. These three bosses are busy and we are so grateful they took the time out of their schedule to judge this prize. Some wines happened, some debates and some punch on's went down, but all was resolved. Every work in this show is so thoughtfully d...one and well presented, making this a difficult task. 19.01.2022 Curation for the BLUE 2020 W.O.P prize finalist exhibition begins now! Closed this week installing to open this Saturday! It's been a real treat welcoming artists in over the past two days and putting faces to the work! We feel so lucky to be able to present this to Newcastle and beyond. 08.01.2022 Co owners Marguerite Tierney and Tim Moran with the people's choice winner Mila Knight - who is only 17! Milla won $500 for her work 'Sociability (featured between Tim and Milla.) Her mother informed the gallery afterwards that Milla really wants some expensive oil paints for her HSC major work and she is spending her prize money on those. We are deligted to announce that @ahnwells is a featured female artist in 'MISTRESS- second installment' honoring Newcastle women in art for International womens day 2021! Ahn at her core is an artist and a striking one! Besides her steady practice, slick abstracts and notable body of work, Ahn is the gallery director of @gallery_139 and founder of @independentgalleriesnewcastle. ... Wells promotes and reviews shows for the Newcastle Herald, curates pop up shows in Sydney and beyond, coordinates art fairs and is a much loved member of the Newcastle arts scene.
