24.01.2022 Thanks to the support of the Malcolm Robertson Foundation, Black Swan is pleased to announce a new playwright development program Funny Girl. The program will commission and encourage female stand-up comedians to write new comedic theatre scripts for Black Swan to stage in future years. Our first participant is well known actor, comedian, and ABC presenter Andrea Gibbs, who commences work on Barracking for the Umpire with dramaturgical input from our Literary Director Pol...ly Low. 'Funny Girl' will run from 2020 to 2022 and will create theatre that delights existing audiences, engages new audiences, and makes us all laugh.

23.01.2022 At the beginning of the month on a brisk and bright Saturday afternoon, the team from "York" headed east for a public reading of the play at the York Town Hall. The community were able to hear the whole play from start to finish. Everyone was able to mingle with the cast and creative team and were also given the privilege of hearing the York Indigenous Youth Choir Mooditj Coolalingas! 22.01.2022 Chookas to all the Drama WACE students who completed their practical examinations over the last two weeks! During Term 3, Black Swan facilitated Original Solo Performance (OSP) workshops at 12 schools with over 180 enthusiastic students. Hearty appreciation for keeping our teaching artists busy! His background in the live music industry has also seen him work for SXSW, Ted, and WOMEX (Worldwide Music Expo). Alison has had a 25 year career inn arts and culture leadership. Prior to her current tenure at Durham County Council, Alison headed up the Arts Council England for 15 years, the last 6 as director of the north west and national director for Combined Arts raising profile and investment for arts venues and practices. Ben has over 10 years of art man...agement experience informed by a 16-year career in the arts. Prior to joining the Institute, Ben was executive director of Soundstreams, Canadas leading contemporary music and opera producer, and before that, founded Spectrum Music, an intrepid concert series in Toronto which brings contemporary music to uninitiated audiences by composing music about popular themes in fields like astronomy, literature, and history. Before joining UMS, Cayenne served as Vice President of Unlimited Lyric, the education and community engagement arm of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. At Lyric she established and fostered partnerships with more than 50 Chicago-area organisations, commissioned four world premiere operas and created a variety of innovative programs and performances. Prior to this she was Director of New Initiatives at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's Institute. A former French horn player, Cayenne received music degrees in performance from San Francisco State University and Yale University.
