The Wunan Medical Centre is on track to open its doors in September and will be a multi disci...plinary facility that will host numerous medical experts under one roof for patient convenience and care. It will serve people throughout the Kimberley as well as tourists to the region. Dr Steph is still looking for Doctors, so if you’re interested in working with the clinical team, please make contact with Fiona Baines at [email protected] to find out more information on how to join their team. Great work Steph, you’re an inspiration to our community.

24.01.2022 The Community Garden in conjunction with Black Tapas catering are hosting a Daloong Preserve Competition! We have kindly been given permission to do this by Miriwoong language group Elder, Agnus Armstrong. The Daloong (Miriwoong word for Green Plum) only fruit for a short time. The A great opportunity over December and January to connect with local Miriwoong community members, learn more about the Daloong, and have some fun creating jams, pickles or other preserves! We live... in a remote area where food relief and food security are real considerations. Learning how to safely preserve seasonal foods is a useful skill. Learning more about native and traditional foods from this region is important knowledge to know, and to continue sharing. Learning more about the nutritional values of locally grown and seasonal foods is important knowledge (see comments for info). Connection, learning and sharing knowledge between community members offers healing, and develops an empowered community. Kath from the Ag Society will kindly offer a free preserving workshop in January (details tbc in new year). The Ag Society is also keen to see some new entrants in their preserves section of the 2021 Ag Show! RULES: 1. The Daloong is a small green plum with a large black seed. The skin is edible and the ripe fruits are often found on the ground. The Daloong does not have to be the main ingredient (due to seed size), but must feature in your product. You are invited to consider jams, pickles, chutneys or other types of preserves that combine with other fruits, vegetables (preferably locally grown) or bush foods. Sweet, spicy or savoury - get creative! 2. The preserve must be jarred correctly so that it safely preserves on the shelf for up to 6mths. 3. You must submit preserve with list of ingredients and date made. 4. You must only gather fruits from trees/places you know confidently, you are allowed to be. Seek permission if unsure. 5. Allow a Fair Share. Only take what you need. 6. Closing date is TBC at this stage, based on when trees stop fruiting - watch this page for updates. PRIZES Black Tapas are kindly donating a Stargazer platter valued at $110 and will include preserve in a backstage Tapas box at The Kimberley Moon. Community Kitchen are donating an upcycled juicer and drinks ice crusher. Community Garden are donating free annual family membership and a free place in the upcycled grow bed project which gives you all you need to start growing fresh produce at home. Let's face it though, this comp is more for the sheer joy and fun of the whole experience! Not too much later, the Mejerren (black plum) will start appearing too! We can't wait to start tasting plums and playing with tastes and flavours!
