25.01.2022 This is the first cut on a new platter carving. A beautiful eucalyptus branch will be carefully engraved into the platter using my chisels. Each design is sketched onto the platter in pencil first so I take full advantage of the grain. This means each design is different from the next. I've never carved one the same. 18.01.2022 The carving is the part I get the most satisfaction. So long as my little chisels are sharp, they glide through the timber like a knife through butter. After flattening and smoothing the board, it is sanded up to 1,200 grit. Then a coat or two of our conditioner is applied. The board feels like glass. Then I come in with my chisels and carve a little native flower or two. The next step is the kolrosing, then another coat of conditioner to seal and finish the board.
