24.01.2022 Could this be you?

23.01.2022 Have you seen the New Holland Honeyeater around lately? They are quite common wherever grevillea and banksias are found, but they also eat fruit, insects, and spiders. They are very active and inquisitive, and love to congregate in large noisy groups. We love to hear them having a party in the backyard!

23.01.2022 Did you see Escapegoat Adventures in the Sunday Mail on the weekend? Check them out yourself at Belair National Park, in the old golf shop.

23.01.2022 Have you heard about the extended opening hours at Wittunga?

23.01.2022 Oh my! Take a look at the view from the Adelaide Hills through to the sea (with Sturt Gorge Dam right there in the middle). Does it get any better?

23.01.2022 Its a beautiful time of year to get out into nature We recently checked out the Sturt Gorge Recreation Park. We headed out from Murrays Hill Rd, near the bridge, and walked along the river. The sound of water flowing was idyllic. The trails can get a little challenging at times but great fun for those who are keen. A great chance to have fun with the kids! Have a look at the info here if youre keen for a walk this weekend: https://www.parks.sa.gov.au///sturt-gorge-recreation-park

22.01.2022 Dont forget to look up! Blackwood Forest always delivers the goods.

21.01.2022 Imagine waking up to this every morning Dreams DO come true after all.

21.01.2022 The avenue of towering Sequoias in Belair National Park were planted by the staff of Belair National Park in 1962 as a memorial to Australian and American allied forces who served in World War Two and in Korea.

21.01.2022 Did you know that local store, EcoLateral is having an online sale? That's right, even though they're not open, they can still fulfil orders. For the next 5 days, they will offer 20% off everything bought online. A 20% discount will be automatically applied at checkout (but in case it doesn't, your discount code is "together20".) Perhaps it's a good time to get that online Christmas shopping done, and support a local Blackwood business at the same time.

20.01.2022 Thank you to the Blackwood Action Group for their tireless efforts this year. We really appreciate the lovely planter boxes on Main Road every time we go shopping. They are looking fantastic

19.01.2022 This spectacular flower was spotted growing in a bush along the Sturt River near the path after Winns Road. Wondering if it was a native, we decided to do some research, and discovered that it is an Abutilon Striatum, a reasonably hardy plant from Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

19.01.2022 The trees are coming to life again! We are loving these signs that Spring is right around the corner.

19.01.2022 Magpie Creek Hike is a walk only trail in Blackwood Hill Reserve that extends from Magpie Creek East, near Clematis Drive, to Magpie Creek West. We took the loop that returned to Clematis Drive via the steep BFL Walk and Woodlands link trails. The loop was fun, and took us into the creek, which was dry at this time of year, but still seemed quite green and lush, and was mostly shaded and cool on a 30 degree day. The BFL walk was certainly effective at getting the heart rate up, and ensured we really enjoyed the ice block at the end of the hike. It was a fun and adventurous walk - we would love to return to this hike in winter when the creek is flowing. The trails are very clearly signposted, but you can also download the map for more information: https://bit.ly/36vDOY8

16.01.2022 Do you have adventurous kids who love climbing? Bring them to Treetop Park! Built around existing trees at Blackwood Park, kids can really get a birds eye view. The park also includes a baby swing, bouncy seesaw, a stunning small slide and sand play for the less adventurous to enjoy too. Interested? Its at the corner of Blackwood Park Blvd and Champion Way.

16.01.2022 If you look carefully on your next hike, you just might find something special. We found these King Spider Orchids at Belair National Park. Aren't they stunning?

15.01.2022 Exercise is back on! Which trail will you choose?

15.01.2022 Aren't the new club rooms at the Blackwood Tennis Club looking fantastic? 14.01.2022 Heres a cheerful little bird we came across today! The Australian Wood Duck is very common around here. Known as very versatile birds, they eat grasses, clover, herbs and insects, and are quite happy living in urban parks, wetlands, woodlands, or open pastures. Often seen on the water, they form monogamous breeding pairs that stay together all year.

13.01.2022 What glorious weather weve been having! Perfect for an adventure in our own backyard. The Craigburn Farm Trails in Sturt Gorge Recreation Park are looking fantastic at the moment, with the revegetation project here really starting to take off. Wattles are in bloom and fairy wrens and parrots are enjoying the abundance. We took a leisurely stroll on the Walk the Dog trail. Its an easy walk or mountain bike loop, and we were lucky enough to have the trail all to ourselves. Click here to download a map of the Craigburn Farm Trails: https://www.environment.sa.gov.au//sturt-gorge-recreation-

12.01.2022 To mark Arbour Day, the City of Mitcham will be hosting a virtual tree planting on 1 September. Tune in to their Facebook page at 11am on Tuesday 1 September for tips on how to prepare, plant, and care for a new tree.

12.01.2022 How beautiful is this flower? Loved by both birds, butterflies and bees, this Eremophila is part of a large genus found only in Australia. There are over 220 named species, with at least another 40 awaiting description. They survive in arid lands but can be found in a variety of habitats. We love them because they are hardy, and absolutely stunning.

11.01.2022 Local favourite Lenox Avenue ADL have a delicious range of coffee, meals and treats available, including these house-made gluten free baked goods. We cant wait to stop in and give them a try.

10.01.2022 Aren't these looking fantastic!

07.01.2022 It might feel like Winter, but these blossoms remind us that Spring is on the way. Yay!

07.01.2022 We have been loving all of these historic photos of the area. Do you have some old snapshots of the region? Feel free to share with us in the comments below!

06.01.2022 The best thing about daylight savings is having time for a walk in the park after work

06.01.2022 Get ready for Cars and Coffee in Blackwood on Sunday September 6 at the Woolworths carpark from 8am - 10am.

05.01.2022 Join us on our journey as we aspire to walk every local trail near Blackwood Park. This week, we explored Gunners Run, part of the Craigburn Farm Trails in Sturt Gorge Recreation Park. Its a shared use, single track trail, so you could find hikers, trail runners or mountain bikers. If going by bike, its classified as an intermediate (blue) Mountain Bike Trail. The 2.9km trail should take you about 30 minutes to ride, contains a jump, bridge, and rock garden, and has some stunning views across the Gorge.

05.01.2022 Wow! This photo is stunning, and taken at Scott Creek Conservation Park - just around the corner.

05.01.2022 Belair National Park is quite a large park. Most people usually stay closer to the front entrance, where all the facilities are, but this week we went a little further east. We drove up Sheoak Road, parking at the Saddle Hill Road car park. With perfect weather, we followed our feet down the adventure loop trail, over Saddle Hill Road, down to the avenue of Sequoias. Then realising it was time to head home, we looped back up the Berri Wirri track, across the railway line to the Curta track, along Saddle Hill Road to the car again. It was a stunning walk past tons of gorgeous flowers, towering gums and lush ferns. But what goes down, must go back up, and the walk back was very much uphill. An invigorating way to wake up in the morning!

04.01.2022 What a glorious day to explore Blackwood Forest!

03.01.2022 We are so glad the gardens at Carrick Hill have reopened! Theres nothing better than wandering through the stunning gardens, and grabbing a scrumptious meal at the cafe. Little and big kids alike will love discovering the Storybook Trail. The house is still undergoing renovations, but the garden is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4.30pm.

03.01.2022 With all the rain weve had this week, the Sturt River/Warriparri is looking very full! Thankfully, the bridge at Winns Road isnt quite flooded yet, but worth being aware of if you are out and about this weekend.

03.01.2022 Woo hoo!! It's back on

03.01.2022 Will we see you at the Blackwood Craft Market this Sunday?

03.01.2022 Brrr... These two have the right idea! Its the perfect day to snuggle up with a loved one, or a good book and a warm cup of tea.

02.01.2022 We cant wait to see the fruit and veggies at Montessori Kids grow!

01.01.2022 Blackwood Hill Reserve has a few pleasant surprises! We found what we can only describe as 'Butterfly Alley'. As we walked along the intermediate trail from Trevor Traverse to Clematis Connector, we kept going towards the railway bridge at Borderline Blue, and as we got near the bridge at Magpie Creek East, a cloud of butterflies ascended into the sky! Both butterflies and bees were attracted to a line of flowering shrubs lining the path from Trevor Terrace. There were hundreds of butterflies enjoying the nectar of the flowers, so if you are looking for a magical butterfly experience, this is the place to go!

01.01.2022 From 10am Thursday 10 December to Wednesday 6 January, why not get together with family or friends for a picnic at one of three ‘Christmas Celebration Spaces', created at Waite Street Reserve? Decked out in lights and decorations created by our local schools, these spaces will also host pop-up performances and activities. Wobbles the Clown - 11 to 11.30am Blackwood Ukulele Group - 7 to 8pm Christmas lights will be turned on at 8pm each night.... Bring a rug and picnic hamper or just wander through to enjoy the festive atmosphere! What a creative idea this festive season. We love it!

01.01.2022 The Blackwood Post office nears completion (1928) on the corner of Cliff Street (later Shepherds Hill Road) and Main Road, Blackwood. We love our local history! : via State Library of South Australia
