25.01.2022 Residents of Modbury Heights would have seen a crane towering over the suburb recently and I’m pleased to say that it’s located at The Heights School where it is busily constructing the new facilities including a long-awaited new gymnasium! A big thank you to Business Manager Vicki Cook and the team at Chappell Builders for giving me a tour of the works and a chance to sit in the crane and learn a bit about how the construction is progressing.

25.01.2022 Keep your eye out for Carlo and Braydon from the National Breast Cancer Foundation who are at the Manor Farm Shops in Salisbury East this week encouraging people to donate to help fund research to reach the goal of zero deaths from breast cancer by 2030. Further info > https://nbcf.org.au

25.01.2022 Check out the major progress on Labor’s plan to upgrade Modbury Hospital Almost three years ago Peter Malinauskas in the former Labor Government released our ambitious upgrade plan for Modbury Hospital. That plan is now under construction and includes upgraded elective surgery and operating theatres, upgraded extended care unit, upgraded palliative care and upgraded outpatients. ... The delivery of the plan will benefit people in the northeast suburbs for decades to come. It has come a long way since the previous Liberal Government privatised the hospital in the 1990s. It was great to visit the construction site with Shadow Health Minister Chris Picton MP and Dana Wortley MP - Member for Torrens.

24.01.2022 Today marks the 79th anniversary of the bombing of Darwin. More bombs were dropped on Darwin than in the attack of Pearl Harbour 10 weeks earlier. More than 683 were dropped with at least 243 people killed and 400 wounded, but those numbers may be higher. 64 bombing raids occurred with the final raid happening on 12th November, 1943. The ceremony at the Salisbury RSL was held indoors due to the heat but remained, as always, a moving memorial service. I recently discovered the story of Gunner, a Kelpie puppy, who became an unlikely hero. Gunner’s leg was broken in the first air raid. After that, when he heard Japanese aircraft approaching he would become agitated this warned people around him to head into the trenches. With Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM, Cr Adam Duncan, Councillor Peter Jensen & Cr Graham Reynolds

24.01.2022 Congratulations to all the academic achievers from the Class of 2020 at Golden Grove High School, including DUX Award recipient Angela Harris! Can’t wait to celebrate the achievements of last year’s graduating class with all staff and students early in Term 1 2021.

24.01.2022 You’ll all see some changes to how businesses adapt to the new COVID tracing procedures, and for some in the community it may be a little confusing. But a big ‘well done’ to Cafe Verde at Fairview Park Shopping Centre for providing clear and concise advice to keep our community COVID safe.

24.01.2022 On this day in 1942 Australian infantry recaptured Kokoda. Over 2000 Australian casualties were incurred in the terrible battles fought between July and November that year to repel the Japanese forces. Today we gathered for a commemoration service at the dedicated Kokoda memorial in St Agnes, established through the work of Mrs Martin and her late husband in conjunction with the RSL - Tea Tree Gully Sub Branch... Lest we forget. Tony Zappia MP Justin Hanson - Labor for South Australia Councillor Peter Field, City of Tea Tree Gully Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King

24.01.2022 The weather could not have been better this morning for the Wynn Vale Community Garden open day. We are the beneficiaries of all the tireless work of the volunteers who keep the garden looking so picturesque and this annual open day is a fantastic opportunity for the local community to discover all its wonder. I stocked up on a year’s supply of apricot jam and tomato relish.

24.01.2022 Ramping in our hospitals is now at crisis point.

23.01.2022 Happy World Teachers Day! A big thank you to all our teachers for everything you do, especially this year when you stoically remained in the classroom teaching our children as the world was falling apart around you!

23.01.2022 Off to the Plaza today with Nanna to get shoes for their first day of school!!

22.01.2022 What a senseless and potentially life threatening act If anyone in the Surrey Downs community saw or heard anything please report to SA Police.

22.01.2022 A wonderful lunch today at the Salisbury RSL to commemorate the centenary of the Sub-Branch. The history of this Branch is truly remarkable and it has lived at its current premises on Park Terrace for 70 years, as the City of Salisbury, SA, Australia has changed and evolved around it. It was great to be joined at this special occasion by Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King Zoe Bettison MP Tony Zappia MP and Deputy Mayor Chad Buchanan J.P. - Councillor for Central Ward, City of Salisbury.

22.01.2022 How ‘Special’ to meet one of my heroes today. On the eve of the 2021 AFL Season it was incredible to meet Bruce today - someone who has called some of the most spine tingling moments in Australian sport and called every Olympics since 1980!!

22.01.2022 Raising a Red Tin to all the workers past and present and their families tonight. Thinking of them after the news that SA icon, the West End Brewery will close its doors. Cheers to 160 years of proud SA history! Joe Szakacs MP

21.01.2022 This Saturday Peter Malinauskas and I will be at The Grove SA from 10am - 12noon out the front of Woolworths. Drop by for a chat and to raise any queries or provide feedback on issues that are important to you. Or just pop by to say hello

21.01.2022 With Peter Malinauskas and Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King this morning at The Grove talking to residents about local issues. Lots of support for Labor’s petition to bring back the Supercars.

21.01.2022 Today marks the one-year anniversary of Prof. Nicola Spurrier and Commissioner Grant Stevens taking control of SA’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 22 March 2020 a major emergency was declared, with Grant Stevens stepping up to become the State Co-ordinator, acting on advice from SA Health and Prof. Nicola Spurrier. Its been a tough 12-months for everyone. People have made sacrifices. Some families lost loved ones and were unable to grieve for them in the traditional wa...y. But to Nicola Spurrier and Grant Stevens I want to say a big ‘thank you’ for the last 12-months and all you have done to keep us safe.

21.01.2022 This morning I had the pleasure of joining Principal Jason Mittiga to present Grace Rocca with the 18th Wright Volunteer of the Year Award at St Francis Xavier's Catholic School. Grace volunteers so much at the School, including as the President of Parent Community Committee, organising school discos and the Mother’s and Father’s day stalls as well as helping out with the student banking (amongst many other things). Grace is a very worthy recipient of this award and I would like to thank her again for all the work she does in our community.

20.01.2022 Sadly late yesterday afternoon it was revealed that the Marshall Liberal Government had decided to cancel the 2021 Adelaide 500 V8 supercar race and scrap the contract for future races. Last year’s race injected $45.9 million into the South Australian economy, supporting the creation of 435 full-time jobs and more than 15,000 interstate visitors came to SA to attend the event. I have many fond memories of attending the race in years gone by, and I know how popular the race wa...s amongst residents of the north with strong connections to Holden. Of course along with the race itself this also spells the end of the big concerts that came with it: acts like Kiss, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Cold Chisel, to name just a few. 20.01.2022 It was a big crowd last night at Tilley Reserve for the Tea Tree Gully City Soccer Club presentation night. This is a fantastic local club with really big plans for the future and I was very pleased to join in celebrating a challenging but successful season with the Club. Exciting times ahead!

19.01.2022 I’m pleased to support the RSL Gawler’s call out for donations for Christmas Care Packages for our troops overseas by donating a carton of delicious War Widows Guild Anzac Biscuits. If you would like to donate Shapes biscuits, lip balms, Tim Tams and bags of lollies (or cash) to the Gawler RSL, call on 8522 1382 to find out what’s needed. Donations need to be received by November 27th to make sure they arrive in time for Christmas.

19.01.2022 Community safety announcement! Rose, Billie and Evelyn are on the prowl for treats!

18.01.2022 On the weekend Evelyn and her friend found the SA Rocks equivalent of the Michael Jordan rookie card We will do the right thing though and hide it again for someone else to find! Bluey

18.01.2022 Thanks to Adrian Ryan and his family for making it over from Pt Lincoln to watch the debate in Parliament on ‘Paddy’s Law’ - the law to affix a warning label to LPG bottles after the tragic loss of Paddy from huffing LPG earlier this year. Let’s get this passed! Connie Bonaros MLC

16.01.2022 What an impressive success story. Matt a former Motor Trade Association of SA/NT apprentice now working as a Workshop Manager at Brabham Automotive. 15.01.2022 Yesterday, in my role as Shadow Minister for Education, I joined local Member of Parliament Geoff Brock at two great local schools in Port Pirie: Port Pirie West Primary and John Pirie Secondary School. The Primary School is making great use of its new STEM facilities and construction is underway at John Pirie on the conversion of the old power station into a performing arts space. Both great Labor projects. A big thank you to Principals Roger Nottage and Fiona Perry for having us!

15.01.2022 Some households in Wright won’t have received my Christmas card and 2021 calendar yet but it’s on the way and (hopefully) landing in your letterbox this week There was a little delay from Australia Post over the busy Christmas period but hopefully you can still make room on the fridge for my 2021 calendar.

15.01.2022 Residents of the North and North East would be well aware of the upgrade to the intersection of Main North, McIntyre and Kings Roads currently underway. On average, more than 81 550 vehicles travel through the intersection each day. There have been 77 crashes in the past five years, including 26 casualty crashes. ... The upgrade will include: * widening of Main North Road, with the installation of an additional right turn lane into McIntyre Road, and three through lanes heading north on Main North Road; * extension of dual right turn lanes heading north-east from McIntyre Road onto Main North Road Road * new and upgraded pedestrian ramps and footpaths around the intersection * dedicated bicycle lanes on both approaches of Main North Road and * new and upgraded traffic signals, road lighting, line marking, and drainage.

15.01.2022 Yesterday was the first time I’ve been truly embarrassed to be a Member of the South Australian Parliament. Adrian Ryan, the father of Paddy Ryan who passed away in February this year after inhaling LPG from a BBQ cylinder at a party in Port Lincoln, made his way to Adelaide with friends and family to watch debate on a Bill that I took into the Lower House of Parliament on behalf of Connie Bonaros MLC (SA BEST). The Bill is designed to mandate warning labels on LPG cylinder...s to warn kids that inhaling the gas (‘huffing’) can kill you. Pretty basic - but clearly necessary - stuff. But in a move that blindsided us all, the Liberal Government used its numbers to stop debate. To say Adrian and his family were upset is a huge understatement. They were gutted; and returned to Port LIncoln yesterday afternoon without even an explanation from the Government about why it chose to gag us. Surely we can do better than this?

15.01.2022 Thank you to the RSL - Tea Tree Gully Sub Branch for organising a moving and respectful Remembrance Day service today presided over by Wayne Langford and Mal Fergusson. This year’s service was smaller in line with COVID19 restrictions but I laid a wreath and paid my respects on behalf of all the residents of Wright. Lest We Forget... With, Justin Hanson MLC, Lucas Jones - Tea Tree Gully Councillor and Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King

15.01.2022 Last night was the Wynn Vale Preschool end of year concert. I think I speak on behalf of all parents when I say how wonderful it was that Sharon Creagh and her team managed to put together a COVID-safe plan in time for the event to go ahead. It’s been a tough year for everyone and that includes parents with school-age children who have not been able to attend the usual school events like sports day, concerts and assemblies.... Last night was Sharon Creagh’s final end-of-year concert after 47 years working in preschools. Sharon is a dedicated and tireless advocate for children and her kind and warm manner has calmed thousands of nervous kids on the preschool doorstep over those 47 years and for over 20 years at WVPS. We will miss you Sharon. Wynn Vale School

14.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who came for a chat with Peter Malinauskas and me at The Grove today. South Australian Labor is serious about being a voice for the community and that is why we are out in the community to hear directly from you.

13.01.2022 Alert! An accident has occurred on McIntyre Road near the intersection of Bayview Parade. Avoid McIntyre Road between the Golden Way and Bridge Road if you can.

13.01.2022 And just like that, the new change rooms at Para Hills West Soccer Club are up!!

13.01.2022 Para Hills West Soccer Club Junior presentation day was a buzz yesterday! Well done to all the Westies on another big season and a special shout out to all the mums and dads, coaches, support staff and COVID marshals that made this season possible

13.01.2022 This morning I received an urgent call from City of Playford Councillor Cathy-jo Tame on behalf of Adelaide North Special School. The school was running low on blue nitrile disposable gloves due to a COVID shortage. I put the call out to the community and Mayne Pharma at Salisbury South came up with the goods and kindly donated hundreds of gloves for the school. A big thanks to Rosanna and everyone at Mayne Pharma and well done to Cr Cathy-Jo Tame for making it all happen.

12.01.2022 A fantastic partnership has sprung up between Para Hills West Soccer Club and Adelaide’s Kenyan community. Today there was a game on Manor Farm Oval in Salisbury East to decide the winner of the Mushajaa Cup followed by some beautiful Kenyan food and even some tug of war! Debra put it perfectly when she thanked Westies for sharing their facilities because: it makes us feel as though we are part of the broader Australian community.

12.01.2022 Yesterday Dana Wortley MP and I met Sam (and Xena ) - Sam is a veteran who served a number of tours overseas in the Australian Army. Operation K9 is a program run by the Royal Society for the Blind (RSB) that provides assistance dogs to veterans who have been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Yesterday we acknowledged 8 veterans being matched with their assistance dogs as the graduating class of 2020. Sam was extremely brave in sharing his story with the ...crowd, and can I say there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Sam, with the help of Xena, is now studying at University to become a surgeon! If you wanted to donate to this great cause or find out more info on this program www.rsb.org.au/product/mission-4-mates/

11.01.2022 A new shoe store has opened in Wynn Vale! Just kidding But I amassed a pretty impressive collection when picking up rubbish near the Wynn Vale shops this week. Just a reminder to people who would be inclined to toss their waste into the bushes in this location that it is where hundreds of primary school kids from Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School and Wynn Vale School walk every school day; not to mention SCOSA which has a building there too. Dont be a tosser and dispose of waste responsibly

10.01.2022 Happy Birthday to The Grove Mall Walkers! Great to spend the morning with the great group of mall walkers, celebrating another year with a slice of cake and coffee.

Lots of training and course providers, employers and leading industry groups have interactive displays to assist if you are looking for a job, career change, courses or you are a school student looking for a career path. I even had a crack at spray painting a car using VR technology at the Motor Trade Association display! Entry is free and open from 9am - 5pm tomorrow Saturday 17 October in the Jubilee Pavilion.

09.01.2022 It’s Halloween eve and we have some very excited kids in our house! Thanks to Jenn for her crazy good pumpkin carving jack-o’-lantern skills

08.01.2022 Wonderful morning to join Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King in Cobbler Creek Recreation Park with Peter Malinauskas MP and Tony Zappia MP today. Thanks to everyone who dropped by for a chat, including Ranger Ash who gave us an update on how popular the Park has been lately.

05.01.2022 Parafield testing station temporarily closed due to high wind

05.01.2022 A beautiful afternoon for the annual family pilgrimage to Santa Trees - Christmas Tree Farm in Forreston. It was lovely to see families enjoying the tradition of cutting down their own tree and discussing how they would decorate it. Evelyn was very particular about the tree we chose and Teddy managed to hold his dinner down for the very windy car trip there and back!... All in all, a great day.

04.01.2022 It was a lot of fun to join students and staff at The Heights School recently and hand out certificates to the kids that participated in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The Heights School has a fantastic library and really promotes reading amongst its students. It was great to be a part of the day and do my own little bit to encourage those students to make reading a habit for life.

04.01.2022 Great to be at Hope Valley Sporting Club this evening with Peter Malinauskas MP and Justin Hanson MLC for the opening of the upgraded Bar, Kitchen and Changerooms. 04.01.2022 Good news!! After the devastating news yesterday that Cubby Land at Keithcot Farm Primary School was the target of heartless vandalism, the School staff responded and have worked hard to fix the damage to ensure students once again have this great imaginative play space. Thankyou to everyone who helped carry out repairs and the countless offers from members of the public to help fix it. Friends of Keithcot Farm Primary School

04.01.2022 Yesterday I lent a hand at the official opening of the new covered outdoor learning area and nature play garden at Wynn Vale School. The students were all in great voice and dressed up in house colours for sports day. Well done to Governing Council Chair Craig Steen for all the support he and his team gave the School so they could make these fantastic improvements a reality.

04.01.2022 Important information for the Woodville High School community

04.01.2022 An elected Malinasukas Labor Government will ban puppy factories with the strongest laws in the nation. Facilities with hundreds of breeding animals are not acceptable. Puppies and kittens bred for sale should not be born to a mother who has been inadequately housed or cared for or bred too many times. We will end large scale and inhumane breeding facilities for dogs and cats.

03.01.2022 I noticed what looks to be illegal dumping of rubbish in our community this morning. I know many residents will be cleaning up after the Christmas and New Year period but there is no excuse for this. I have reported it to City of Salisbury, SA, Australia but residents need to remember that the Cities of Salisbury and Tea Tea Gully both provide two free hard waste services per financial year for residents to dispose of hard waste. See the links below for material eligible t...o be disposed of via these services. https://www.teatreegully.sa.gov.au/Waste_and_rec/Hard_waste https://www.salisbury.sa.gov.au//Waste_and_Recy/Hard_waste

03.01.2022 Congratulations to the very talented Shane Cook of Salisbury East for taking out the 2020 SA Young Achiever of the Year Award and the Aboriginal Achievement Award last night! Well done

03.01.2022 In this blistering hot weather it is important that we still check in on family, friends and loved ones. That’s why Meals on Wheels is so important: not just for the food we deliver but also for the welfare checks. Over the next 48 hours, with temperatures set to peak above 40, make sure you check on your loved ones and assist them wherever you can.

02.01.2022 A real feeling of celebration in the air this morning as we officially welcomed Will Wallace as the new principal of Golden Grove Lutheran Primary School. Will and his family have moved from NSW to take up the role and I was honoured to join Tony Zappia MP in saying a few words of welcome. Also great to see Councillors Bernie and Sandy Keane present for the occasion.

02.01.2022 There are just two weeks to go before private operator Keolis Downer takes over the operations of the Adelaide train network. They still haven't received accreditation from the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator. The foreign company doesn’t have enough staff to operate the network. ... This is costing South Australians $2.14 billion. It is time for Steven Marshall to step in and cancel this train privatisation. Join the fight and sign the petition here: www.stoptheselloff.com With Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King

01.01.2022 Teddy and I are wearing our band t-shirts today for Ausmusic T-Shirt Day. Ausmusic T-Shirt Day is a nation-wide celebration of Australian music that reminds us how lucky we are to have such a strong local music scene. But as we all know, this year has been a COVID-19 driven wipeout, with all tours and festivals cancelled; venues closed and careers put on hold.... Practically everyone working in live music - that’s artists, crew and music workers - have lost their jobs and their income, and the future is anything but certain. If you have just a little bit to spare, and are keen to support Australian musicians, go to https://www.ausmusictshirtday.org.au/donate to make a donation

01.01.2022 Updated Direction as of 12:01am 22 November 2020. Remember if you are showing any symptoms, even mild, get a COVID test. Let’s keep practicing good hand hygiene, physically distance and stay safe.

01.01.2022 What a fantastic day to kick-off the South Australian Labor campaign for the 2022 State Election in Golden Grove. I’m proud to be standing with Rhiannon Pearce - Labor for King Nadia Clancy Lucy Hood - Labor for Adelaide and Peter Malinauskas as we fight for proper funding for our hospitals, and with our Ambos against ramping. It was lovely to get some cuddles from George the dog too! ... With Joe Szakacs MP Susan Close MP and Ian Hunter MLC.

01.01.2022 Yesterday along with local Whyalla MP Eddie Hughes MP I visited the GFG Alliance Liberty Steelworks site and met with a number of first year apprentices in my role as Shadow Minister for Skills & Training. Great to see GFG backing apprentices as a sign of confidence in the local Whyalla community and a positive sign for future generations who aspire to a job at the steelworks.
