22.01.2022 SUBI EAST SUBMISSIONS #forSubiaco #SubiacoHistory #SubiacoHighrise #WAfooty

19.01.2022 On Tuesday night Subiaco councillors supported a renewed bid to try to claw back 1.73ha of playing elds already earmarked by the council but not included in redevelopment plans for the stadium area. Councillor Blake Phelan said his motion was the result of a lot of communication and consultation with the community. He was elected campaigning to protect the oval which was the largest public sporting reserve on any train line in the metropolitan area, he said. I am not ant...i-development or anti-density but I believe it needs to be done strategically and building on such a large reserve in a inner city suburb like Subiaco seems crazy to me because once its gone we cant undo it, Mr Phelan said. The motion reconrmed the councils preferred location for the 1.73ha sports grounds in addition to Subiaco Oval itself at the north-west boundary of the new high school and northeast boundary of the oval. The playing elds are also to be a part of the councils negotiations and involvement with DevelopmentWAs master planning process for the Subiaco East precinct, according to the motion, Post Newspapers 9 May 2020

08.01.2022 THAT'S HARDLY HERITAGE It is ironic that Subiaco Oval gets a permanent heritage listing (11/9/2019) while it's being completely demolished including the AFL playing surface. The only structure left will be the entry gates. Does heritage listing really mean anything in Western Australia? It seems that if a heritage building has a development application for additions or changes, it must go through a rigorous planning process costing thousands of dollars, yet there is no protec...tion for heritage adjacent to a demolition or redevelopment site. What this says to me is that demolition has priority over retention of heritage in this state. Sure Subiaco Oval will have some grass put back for sports space but thats not heritage nor is it a meaningful use of the reserve which could be the biggest community sports space on any train line in the Perth Metro area. VOTE FOR BLAKE PHELAN - EAST WARD SUBIACO Blake Phelan Coghlan Road, Subiaco candidate for East ward

07.01.2022 My question at this weeks Subiaco Council Meeting: My name is Blake Phelan from Coghlan Road, SUBIACO. I really love the Council approved Kitchener Common Masterplan for the Subiaco Oval Precinct which includes a football oval, two junior football ovals and up to seven rectangular fields in close proximity to West Leederville train station. It looks like the biggest community sporting ground on any train station in the Perth metropolitan area and could be the best location f...or interschool sports, country week sports, and local community team sports. My question is. When will the community be informed of the progress towards the Council's approved Kitchener Common Masterplan including the green spine of the football oval, two junior football ovals and up to seven rectangular fields linking Mueller Park with Subiaco Market Square?

06.01.2022 SUBIACO'S HERITAGE THEATRE - EAST WARD The Regal Theatre has stood since 1938 and still hosts a bevy of local and international acts. Regal Theatre Foundation Chairman Richard Diggins says Perths interest in the arts should keep theatres like the Regal alive and well.... 05.01.2022 Congratulations Subiaco Football Club.

05.01.2022 MY ELECTION CAMPAIGN - CLIMATE CHANGE Subiaco Council is leading in climate change initiatives in all of its suburbs with tree planting programmes since 1904 (back then Subiaco was a wasteland after the trees were cut down in the 1800s), water conservation, solar panels on most of its buildings and improved footpaths so that walking is more comfortable in a cool environment. I want Subiaco to continue as a leader in climate change initiatives.

03.01.2022 DEFER RATE PAYMENTS AND FREEZE RATES The City of Subiaco can do the same. It has more than $59 million sitting in cash and it's the right thing to do to help ratepayers and businesses.

02.01.2022 Heritage is all the things that make up Australia's identity - our historic buildings, and our unique, living landscapes. Our heritage is a legacy from our past, that we pass on to future generations. I am very fond of Subiacos unique heritage with chimney rooftops, welcoming bullnose verandahs and urban tree canopies providing shade, which reduces ambient temperatures. It not only looks great but serves a practical purpose too. Councils do have a responsibility to provide for our increasing density. But it needs to be done in a strategic way, that protects the places that we value, while also ensuring new builds are done tastefully.

01.01.2022 Banging on doors with the great man Tony Costa, Ex Subi Mayor.
