14.01.2022 FRANCE BANS TRIMMING OF WHISKERS Last week the French Equestrian Federation joined their Swiss and German counterparts in banning the trimming of horse whiskers... on welfare grounds. Any horse who has had their whiskers removed will be disqualified from competition. Well done France! The horse has whiskers or 'vibrissae' to help him navigate his world. They are super-sensitive, multi-functional sensory organs with densely packed nerves at their root that send sensory messages to the horse’s brain. These whiskers are so sensitive to vibration and changes in air current they can instantly inform the horse about his environment for example helping him avoid injury by detecting nearby objects, differentiating between different textures, judging wind direction and identifying food. The horse has a blind spot beneath his muzzle and so his whiskers are a vital aid to his vision. From the horse’s point of view, removing these whiskers reduces his spatial awareness and leaves him partially handicapped. We in the UK are very backward in many aspects of horse welfare and it’s time for us to catch up, we should have made this ruling long ago...

It has been 3 yrs since we said goodbye to our amazing Hot Albert who unfortunately had to be put to sleep on the Yass show grounds due to complications from colic. We miss him very much but are happy to be supporting the junior riders at the event sponsoring the 80cm class, Alberts favourite class.

Those opinions are not without good cause and maybe you can't figure ...them out or maybe you just dont like her opinion of you. Change it and she will always be on your side. Stubborn? She just wont let you bulldoze her. Treat her with respect and her resilience will be an asset to you. Difficult? You just cant handle her. You dont have what it takes. Stick with geldings then, and leave the mare for someone who understands her and appreciates the same qualities society has subtlety taught you not to like. Heres to mares, to strong women, and to those who CAN and DO appreciate them! ~ The Evolving Equestrian

Grace is a lovely mare to have in your family and we are looking for her next loving home. She is quite on the ground and to ride. Grace is happy to be in full work, ridden once a week or once a month, she is a no fuss mare. Grace has attended clinics but has not competed. Teeth where done in August. Grace has a snaffle mouth and is sensitive to your leg. As she is responsive off your leg she is not suitable for a beginner. Easy to shoe/catch/worm/rug/wash etc This mare is easy to keep and holds her weight all year round. Happy to be in a paddock on her own or with other horses. We are selling her as we have found she isn't suited... to mounted games, which is the discipline we want her to succeed in. Although, she would be a great pony club mount and shows great potential in dressage. She would suit a rider looking for their second horse, this being as she looks to the rider for guidance. She is an exceptional lead rein pony and would look after her rider. This is a sad sale but don't want her to go to waste. 03.01.2022 Congratulations to Hayley Pulja for bring home two blue ribbon on Ellie and a second and fifth on prophecy. Brendan Sears had a clear round but enjoyed the open stretches to much with Sebring also enjoying his gallop so they where ubder the optimum time. Fun weekend at Berry Riding Club.
