14.01.2022 We are very proud to be a part of Brisbane Festival as members of the newly formed Blak Curatorium, working together with the Indigenous Advisory Group to embed First Nations voices throughout the festival.

14.01.2022 I stopped in to Bunyapa Park this arvo to say hi to local artist Warraba Weatherall, who is painting a wonderful tribute to Uncle Sam Watson, who passed away in... 2019. I'm really pleased that Uncle Sam's memory will be preserved in this park. Some of you might not be aware that he was the elder who originally suggested the name 'Bunyapa' for this particular space. You'll notice a few more murals appearing on different surfaces in Bunyapa over the coming weeks. BCC has agreed to let me use some of my park upgrades budget (which would usually be spent on bench seats, exercise equipment etc) to pay artists a fair price for painting up public murals like this one. Hopefully we'll be able to take a similar approach in a few other parks around the neighbourhood.

06.01.2022 On April 29, I choose not to celebrate the arrival of colonial invaders and the dispossession of our land. Instead I want to acknowledge the original inhabitants whose lives were changed forever on this day, as well as affirm our survival, and reiterate that sovereignty was never ceded. Reko Rennie
