20.01.2022 Congratulations to Vincent Namatjira on winning this year’s Archibald Prize with his portrait of Adam Goodes, 'Stand strong for who you are'! ‘We share some similar stories and experiences of disconnection from culture, language and Country, and the constant pressures of being an Aboriginal man in this country. When I was younger and growing up in the foster system in Perth, Indigenous footballers were like heroes to me. Goodesy is much more than a great footballer though, he took a strong stand against racism and said, enough is enough. I stand strong with you too, brother.’ - Vincent Namatjira The portrait is on display in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prize exhibition, opening tomorrow.

01.01.2022 Often, we are asked why our prices are so high when it comes to cultural works. The simple answer is this, for many years, decades and generations, our performe...rs and artists have underestimated the worth of their work and undercharged accordingly. This reflects times when we were taught that our culture was worthless, our people less than others, our ways considered wrong and primitive. Those times have now past, we grow strong again and with this strength we remember who we are, we value our culture and we know its worth. We are a unique people with unlimited knowledge of this Earth, a knowledge that is, and will be, desperately needed in times to come when the ‘modern, advanced’ world has cut down all our trees, polluted all our water ways and poisoned all our food sources. This knowledge is more valuable that all the gold, precious stones and money in the world. Rocks and stones and plastic cannot feed you, they cannot buy fresh food and water if it no longer exists. Our knowledge can bring the rains, it can work with Mother Earth and the Spirits of this land to bring balance and we can live as one again the way it should be. This is done through our connection to them in ceremony, through dance and performance, through teaching and understanding our ways. Charge your worth and what you know what you bring to the table and walk away if they don’t value it quote from Wakagetti Indigenous Corporation
