23.01.2022 Audiometrist Daniel Pistritto spent years in a deep depression because of his hearing loss... until he realised acceptance was the key to happiness. Here's Daniel’s advice for managing the mental health impacts of hearing loss. Talk to others about your hearing. ... You can’t expect people to understand unless you help them understand. Engage with the hearing loss community. Find a Facebook group such as Hearing Matters Australia so you can interact with people going through the same things you are. Normalise your hearing loss. Don’t try to hide it but rather make it a part of your family or workplace dynamic. The more comfortable you are with it, the more comfortable others will be. Treat your hearing loss. If you feel your hearing aids aren’t enough in challenging situations, look into Bluetooth hearing aids or gadgets that give you an extra boost. Advocate for yourself. Request quiet tables at restaurants and remind people to face you when they speak to you. Ask for what you need and you’re more likely to receive it. Practice hearing your best. Experiment with different settings on your hearing aids or play lip-reading games with your family to improve your skills. Practice builds confidence. It’s amazing how much you can get from visual cues like facial expressions. Expect hiccups along the way. Tackle them with humour and a positive attitude. If something isn't working, don’t give uptry something else. #RUOKAYDAY #mentalhealth

20.01.2022 Have you been staying in more and wearing your hearing aids less? If you only use your hearing aids when you're around people, you may be depriving yourself of incredible health benefits. Research shows that wearing your hearing aids for most of your waking hours can help: stave off early onset cognitive decline, reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, and even improve your balance. AND, it also shows that the more you wear your hearing aids, the easier listening becomes. Is something stopping you from wanting to wear your hearing aids? We'd love to help. 04.01.2022 What do the latest Victorian lockdowns mean for our services? Our clinics will remain open because hearing care is essential. To help keep you and our team safe, we’re strictly following government guidelines. ... That means: disinfecting test rooms and equipment after every client using protective face masks and having sanitiser at hand, and asking you to stay home if you’re unwell or potentially exposed. That said, we understand if you don't want to see us in person right now... You can book an online video consultation instead, for clinic-quality care at home. And remember, our telehealth team is always just a phone call or email away. You're welcome to contact us for more information. #COVIDSafe #InThisTogether
