11.01.2022 Australia has the highest skin cancer occurrence rate in the world, however, with early detection, diagnosis and treatment, melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers can be successfully treated. Our GP's specialise in skin checks and care for skin concerns. During the skin check, the doctor will use microscopic equipment and lighting to canvas the skin for usual or irregular moles or spots. The doctor generally looks over the entire body of the patient. With the help of a dermas...cope, the doctor can assess the patient’s skin to determine whether the moles, spots or skin lesions are likely to be cancerous. If you have one particular skin lesion that is concerning to you, in that it may have changed shape or colour or is itchy or painful, please show this to your doctor immediately during any consultation. Call Blamey Street Surgery on 6925 2242 or book online through our website today.

05.01.2022 June is Bowel Cancer awareness month. Help beat Bowel Cancer. The faecal immunochemical test (FIT) is a screening test for bowel cancer that can be completed in the privacy of your home. It tests for non-visible blood in poo, which can be an early sign of bowel cancer. FIT only detects human blood from the lower intestines. Medicines and foods do not interfere with the test. FIT has been selected as the preferred testing method for Bowel Cancer Australia's BowelScreen Austral...ia program and the tax-payer funded National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP). False-negative test results can occur Screening test results may appear to be normal even though bowel cancer is present. A person who receives a false-negative test result (one that shows there is no blood in poo when there really is) may delay seeking medical care. False-positive test results can occur Screening test results may appear to be abnormal even though no blood in poo is present. A false-positive test result (one that shows there is blood in poo when there really isn't) can cause anxiety and is usually followed by more tests (such as colonoscopy), which also have risks. Visit Bowel Cancer Australia's screening webpage for more information. Call Blamey Street Surgery to find out how to get your faecal immunochemical test (FIT). https://youtu.be/5f9UgQEvfgU

03.01.2022 Now more than ever it is important to make sure that your physical and mental health are looked after well. Maintaining a regular relationship with your doctor and not delaying your routine care are very important for disease prevention. Our experienced doctors are now available for Telehealth appointments. There will be times when a face to face appointment is necessary or preferable for various reasons and we continue to provide these in a safe environment. Telehealth appoi...ntments can be made online, or by contacting our friendly reception staff. We recommend that all of our patients consider an influenza vaccination this year. Influenza vaccinations will soon be available for the over 65 age group. Our staff will contact you as they arrive to arrange a time to come in for your vaccination. We are expecting to receive our flu vaccinations for other age groups after Easter. We will update our social media and website when these are available. https://blameyst.com.au/covid19update Blamey Street Surgery
