25.01.2022 In the interests of all those considering attending the markets in Blayney on the 23 August, Blayney Rotary have made the decision to postpone the Market. The d...ecision has not been made lightly, but we feel we cannot risk the health and safety of our stall holders, nor the members of our community and beyond, should they have attended. We profusely apologise for any inconvenience caused. If you are interest in having a stall in future Markets, please let us know as we are happy to help.

22.01.2022 Such a beautiful surprise in the mail today. Thank you Blayney Public School. We love being able to help our community, but it is made all the more special when we receive something like this. You have put a big smile on the faces of our Blayney Rotarians

21.01.2022 2021 Rotary District 9705 Conference in Bathurst

21.01.2022 Last night at our Dinner Meeting we were very busy, and very much out of our comfort zone, threading ribbon through the toiletry bags to assist in the End Trachoma 2020. Watch this space.....next fortnight we are packing the bags.

20.01.2022 We are very excited about the changes that will be happening at the Markets in Blayney as from 20th December 2020. Covid-19 has effected us all in so many so, w...e thought it only fair to our wonderful stallholder to try some new ways to get more crowds (COVID Safe of course!) to our Market! We have decided that to get more people interested, we need to have more variety. So, that's what we're doing! We will have a more varied selection of stalls, selling a wider variety of goods. We are therefore unable to call ourselves a 'Farmers' Market', so we have renamed the market Blayney Rotary Markets. We hope you will come along and enjoy some of the old and embrace some of the new, supporting Blayney Rotary and your local community! See more

19.01.2022 Our Trailer finally has it’s signage.

19.01.2022 A club changeover with a difference last night. President Jane inducted incoming President Suellen at a small gathering of some club members and guests. Probably the first ever held in a private home.

17.01.2022 This evening, Rotary Districts 9700 and 9710 formally came together as a merged entity. Several years of planning by many dedicated volunteers, culminating in a... Changeover ceremony, which has transitioned the two Districts into Rotary District 9705 today. The ceremony was conducted online as a webinar and was chaired by Past District Governor, David Kennedy. David welcomed the participants to the Changeover, which included District 9700 Governor, John McKenzie, District 9710 Governor, Peter Ford, District 9705 Governor Michael Moore, District 9705 Governor-Elect, Leo Farrelly, District 9705 Governor-Nominee, Geraldine Rurenga and Rotarian, Anne Ducray. David began the ceremony with the Rotary international address, and the response was accepted by Anne Ducray. The governors then gave their individual addresses, which included introducing the members of the District 9705 Board, the operating committee and structure. Completing the ceremony, the District 9700 and 9710 Governors, John McKenzie and Peter Ford, handed over their regalia in a recorded video, cumulating in District 9705 Governor, Michael Moore accepting their regalia. Michael took the opportunity to introduce the new District 9705 regalia, beginning a new era in our merged District. Congratulations to John McKenzie and Peter Ford for completing a successful year of Service above Self in Districts 9700 and 9710 under trying circumstances over 2019/20. Our best wishes to our new District 9705 Governor, Michael Moore, as he leads our merged District into the new Rotary year in 2020/21. 16.01.2022 Beirut called, and Rotary District 9705 responded. In an initiative led by the Rotary Club of Canberra, our District has instigated a project to support the Rot...ary Club de Beyrouth in Lebanon after Beirut was severely impacted by the massive explosion, which occurred on Beirut's port on 4 August 2020. The explosion caused extensive damage to much of Beirut, killing at least 220 people and injuring 6000 others. 110 people are reportedly missing. Up to 300,000 people have lost their homes. It was one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history. Many buildings were destroyed or damaged, including the Karantina Government Hospital. The pediatric unit of the hospital was destroyed. The Rotary Club de Beyrouth in Lebanon is focusing its efforts on supporting the rebuilding of the pediatric unit of the hospital. Our District welcomes a prompt and generous donation of $5000 by the ACT Government to the Rotary Club of Canberra, which along with other fundraising monies will be forwarded to the Rotary Club de Beyrouth to support the rebuilding of the hospital's pediatric unit. For further information and how to donate to this project, please refer to the media release. #Beirut #BeirutExplosion #Lebanon #Rotary #PeopleofAction

12.01.2022 Rotary History Bite #22/100: Sixty Years of Youth Today, most people have heard of the Rotary Youth Exchange, the world's biggest and best-known student cultura...l exchange program. But not everyone would know that it came about thanks to Australian Rotarians. Since it was conceived, Rotary Youth Exchange, or as it was once known, Rotary Student Exchange has become one of Rotary’s most respected and valuable programs. Today, Australian students can go on a 1 year exchange program to countries all around the world while many Aussie Rotarians gladly play host to international students visiting our shores. In 1927 the Rotary Clubs in Copenhagen, Denmark arranged exchanges. These were for a period of about two weeks and occurred during school holidays. Then in 1929 the Rotary Club of Nice, France, arranged similar exchanges. These were the forerunner of the different types of short-term exchanges for young people that now run successfully between many countries. There are camps with different themes, bike tours, home stays and the more recent New Generations Exchange. The current Rotary Student Exchange program had its genesis in an exchange between Australian Rotary Clubs and Clubs in Nebraska, USA back in 1959, the program's ongoing success over the following years leading to its official adoption worldwide in 1972. It started at an international assembly of Rotary Governors, held at Lake Placid in the USA in 1958. Harley Shaver, a past Governor from Nebraska asked many of those present to go home and consider a new idea of student exchange. This proposed exchange would enable students to spend a year in a different country, in a different culture whilst going to school. Joe Bradbury, an incoming Governor from District 280, Australia, accepted the challenge of an exchange between his district and the district in Nebraska, currently District 5450. At that time, District 280 was one of only 9 Australian districts. These districts had a total of only 326 clubs. That was the beginning. That was the easy part. He asked two enthusiastic Rotarians, Peter Barnett, of the Rotary Club of Myrtleford, and Clive Schliebs, of the Rotary Club of Wangaratta to both develop the program’s rules and promote participation. The very first exchange was eventually held between District 280 and the District in Nebraska, which included clubs in Colorado. In January 1959, John Rogers, a 15 year old student from Scottsbluff, Nebraska, USA, arrived in Myrtleford. At the same time two Australian students, Nick Rutherford and Norm Jordon left District 280 for Scottsbluff and Grand Lake, Colorado. It was those first three Rotary youth exchange students who started what has now become an opportunity of a lifetime for so many others. Today there are between 8,000 and 9,000 exchanges arranged each year, both the traditional long term and different types of a short-term duration. These exchanges allow students from roundabout 80 countries of the Rotary world the opportunity of a lifetime. These are an opportunity to develop international friendships, learn about different cultures and the need for a tolerance of each other’s cultural differences.

12.01.2022 Wishing all our Rotarian Dads a wonderful Father’s Day. Thank you for putting ‘Service Above Self’ and always being there for your community, your country and the world. There are many Rotarians who may not have children of there own, but through Rotary have had the ability to guide so many of our youth over the years through programmes like Youth Exchange, RYPEN, RYLA, MUNA, RYDA and so many more and for that we thank you all. Have a great day!

08.01.2022 This weekend, our 12 2020/21 Outbound Rotary Youth Exchange students formally completed their exchange experience at our Rebounders event held in Canberra. The ...students became reacquainted with each other after returning home from their pandemic impacted exchanges between March 2020 and January 2021. The students presented their experiences to their fellow Rebounders, parents, and the program committee. The students reflected on their exchanges, the challenges they all faced, their courage, and their new skills, borne out of the extraordinary year that was 2020. The students, parents, the program’s committee, and the District Governor, Michael Moore, enjoyed a celebratory evening together, including a cake-cutting ceremony with the District Governor and the Rebounders. The weekend concluded with the District Governor congratulating our Rebounders and presenting the students with their certificates as they embark on the next stage in the lives.
