25.01.2022 Celebrating International Vet Nurse Day today! We are so incredibly lucky to have such an amazing, talented bunch of Veterinary Nurses & Support Staff! ~Through the Eyes of a Vet Nurse~ Care, support and often play, grooming, clipping and then for X-Ray. ... Cleaning, preparation, and vital stats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs and cats. Wounds, cuts, lumps and bumps, bandaged, bathed and cleaned right up. Stitching, sewing and sometimes pins, healing and helping with everything. Minor, major, and just a friendly chat, about the puppy that chews or the mischievous cat. And sometimes sadly, putting a pet to sleep, but comforting their owner, of memories to keep. Respect, dignity, and compassion to all, the big pets, the furry pets and even the small. And all in one day of being a vet nurse, easing pain, offering advice, and helping with birth. New life, old and all in between, Through the eyes of a vet Nurse, all of this can be seen. 25.01.2022 ~Sunshine Coast Council is preparing to update the Domestic Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Strategy for the next 10 years, and is seeking feedback from the community - both pet owners and non-pet owners. Council recognises that for many people, pets are more than just a pet - they offer companionship and are part of the family. Some people don't like animals and prefer to enjoy places that are pet free. Others may not have a pet of their own but still enjoy being around pe...ts in shared open spaces such as dog parks and dog off-leash areas. ~Purpose The Domestic Animal Management Strategy provides the framework in the delivery of animal management services and initiatives over the next 10 years. Council has developed three themes to guide the new strategy, with a goal of creating harmonious co-existence between people, pets and places. Educated Informed People Happy Healthy Pets Safe and Inclusive Places ~The purpose of the strategy is to: Empower responsible pet ownership through education Provide service excellence in animal management Ensure places and spaces are safe, sustainable, accessible and environmentally friendly Build capacity for council and the community to work together Guide and strengthen partnerships with 4PAWS, SCARS and the RSPCA Cultivate creative and innovative approaches and technologies that support harmonious co-existence between people, pets and places. The strategy is guided by the Queensland Government Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008 and the Sunshine Coast Council Local Law and Subordinate Local Law No. 2. Therefore, we encourage all new puppy owners to take advantage of the early developmental period between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks. This is the best time to begin socialisation and Puppy Preschool is the perfect way to do it. Unlike traditional dog training classes, Puppy Preschool is specifically designed for puppies eight t...o sixteen weeks of age. Your puppy will have the opportunity to experience safe interactions with other pups at the same developmental stage, gaining confidence and socialisation skills in a safe environment. You will learn about normal and abnormal canine behaviour, effective early training techniques and how to keep your new puppy happy and healthy. Please give us a call if you would like some more information about our Puppy Preschool classes. (07) 5448 5055. Check our these puppy graduates- See more

You don’t have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they’re in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life.... Reach out to a friend, start a conversation with your work colleague and call your parents. Create a lifestyle to continue past R U Okay day. spread the love, shine some light, make someone’s day a little brighter

14.01.2022 ~THE BILBY~ The Bilby (Macrotis lagotis) is a medium-sized ADORABLE marsupial that is best known for its rabbit-like ears. Australia once had two species of bilby the greater bilby (Macrotis lagotis) and the lesser bilby (Macrotis leucura) the lesser bilby is already extinct.... The greater bilby measures up to 55cm in body length with a tail of up to 29cm long. Adult males weigh up to 2.5kg and the females average about 1.5kg. The female bilbies tend to associate with males just to mate. Once pregnant they have the second shortest pregnancy of any mammal just 12 14 days. When the baby joey is born it looks like a baked bean with legs. It stays in its mother’s pouch for between 75 and 80 days and is independent about two weeks later. Female bilbies have a backward-opening pouch with eight nipples. The pouch opens backward so as not to be filled with earth while digging. Bilbies are one of nature’s eco-engineers. Greater bilbies are important in the restoration of soil and rejuvenation of vegetation in arid Australia. They use their strong front paws to dig deep holes in soil that enables plant material to fall in and decompose. At the same time, soil is aerated which supports seed germination. Bilbies essentially create numerous compost pits every night. That’s nature’s perfectly balanced ecosystem at work, but it’s threatened by the decline of bilbies. Where they have disappeared, the soil has become laminated and water, when it comes, reacts in a different way. It changes flood patterns and may cause run off where previously it would soak in due to the soil disturbance. Bilby habitats also give protection to other endangered species brush-tailed mulgara, spinifex hopping mice permanently occupy bilby burrows, and a further two species, short-beaked echidnas and sand goannas regularly using bilby burrows for shelter. An additional suite of 16 mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian and invertebrate species were detected interacting with bilby burrows. There was no difference in the number of species using disused or occupied bilby burrows, indicating that even disused bilby burrows are important structures for other species. If you would like more information about these magnificent creatures or help the bilbies- click the link below. https://savethebilbyfund.com/help-bilbies/
