23.01.2022 Opening up the Australian landscape for Blind or Vision Impaired people to engage in sport Blind Sports Australia is pleased to announce that they have received... funding through the Department of Healths Driving Inclusion through Sport initiative, to roll out a multifaceted program to provide more opportunities for people who are blind or vision impaired to get active and involved in sport. This project will open up opportunities for people who are blind or vision impaired to engage in sport in their local communities, through a series of activities aimed at educating both the blind and low vision community and the broader community about opportunities that are available. The 3 key deliverables of this project are: 1. Develop online training modules, based on Australian best practice, to assist coaches and volunteers to learn more about vision impairment, communication strategies, adapting sports and ways to empowering people who are blind or vision impaired to take part in sport. 2. Create resources in online or printable formats that assist coaches, volunteers and clubs, to have specific tools, exercises, skills and capacity to engage blind or vision impaired athletes in specific sports. This will include adapting existing world-class material into an Australian context and working with BSA member organisations and relevant NSOs, in the production of new material for other key sports undertaken in Australia. 3. Establish new and strengthen existing regional hubs for blind sporting activity, to enable ongoing opportunities for people who are blind or vision impaired to participate in sport. Blind Sports Australia is privileged to have a wonderful membership base of both state-based and sport based member organisations. One of the key aims of this project will be to engage with and support existing member organisations in the work that they do across the country. We will also work closely with our members, other vision-based organisations, various collaboration partners and local communities to grow and strengthen new opportunities for people to participate in sport in their local areas. We hope that this 2-year project will be a springboard for many people who are blind or have low vision, that have not had regular engagement with sport, to have access to ongoing opportunities to participate in sport through the development of resources, awareness-raising and growth of important networks. 17.01.2022 The club is saddened to learn of the tragic passing of club life member Ned Walker on Saturday. Ned was killed in a car accident near Millicent with his wife Nan and daughter Sue. Ned used to organize matches between the SABCC and Millicent during the early 1980's. When the SABCC used to travel to Millicent Ned would meet the bus on the outskirts of the town, get on board and say G'day to everyone and welcome them to Millicent, before getting off the bus Ned would give us a t...ip for one of his horses, I dont think anyone ever won any money. In March of 1981 Ned assisted Malcolm Penn with the walk from Mt Gambier to Adelaide when Malcolm walked through Millicent and the surrounding area. Rest in Peace Ned, Nan and Sue

08.01.2022 Dear members As you would no doubt be aware, a new cluster of COVID-19 cases has emerged in South Australia. In response, the South Australian Government has re-implemented certain restrictions on public gatherings and businesses, including that all community sport fixtures and training, for both contact and non-contact sports, be cancelled.... Accordingly, all BCSA fixtures and training are cancelled until further notice. The South Australian Government advises that, at this stage, the restrictions are expected to be in force for a fortnight. It is hoped that the early response will prevent the spread and help South Australia avoid a second wave outbreak. The situation continues to evolve however and further communication will be sent out to members as new information becomes available.. Please stay safe and keep well.
