13.01.2022 The second game on Saturday the 13th of March was made up of mixed teams again, with Oscar S (NSW) captain for the Stars and the Thunder captained by Johnny B (...VIC). The toss was won by Stars and they elected to bowl first. The Thunder opened with Mick L (NSW) and Brad C (NSW), posing a good start for the batting side before both opening batsmen were run out. The Thunder struggled to make major inroads against a strong fielding effort from the Stars. Steve O (VIC) and Stephen Palmer (NSW) fought well to maintain a competitive scoring rate, but consistent wickets stifled the Thunder’s innings. The Thunder lost their last wicket on the last ball of the innings, bringing their score to 10/140. Some notable batting performances from the Thunder were Mick L (15 off 9), Steve (33 off 19), Stephen (16 off 8, Brad (11 off 13) and Callum (10 off 6). Some bowling figures from the Stars were Nathan (0-6 off 1), Sean (0-18 off 4), Steffan (1-6 off 1), Chris (0-7 off 1) and Dominic P (0-9 off 1). A quick changeover saw the Stars open with Peter K (NSW) and Chris Gould (VIC). The opening pair started the run chase well, putting pressure on the Thunder field and bowling. The Stars continued to pile on the runs in the middle overs, with Oscar S (NSW) smashing 16 runs in an over before Steffan and Daniel finished off the run chase. The Stars finished the innings on 7/170, as it was decided to continue the game after the run chase was complete. Some notable batting performances from the Stars were Peter K (15 off 8, Chris G (35 off 20), Oscar S (40 off 16), Nathan L (2 off 3) and Steffan N (22 off 9). Both teams played well in the tricky light of the late afternoon, and all players can commend their efforts either in the field, batting or bowling. Unfortunately, the scheduled game on Sunday between Victoria and NSW was called off due to bad weather. However, both teams made use of the quality indoor facilities at Bankstown and took part in a combined training session. The Arthur Watson Man of the Match for both games on Saturday was Steve Obied. BCNSW would like to thank the Victorian Team for travelling to NSW and all of the volunteers, umpires and organisers for putting on a great weekend of competitive cricket. The annual series between NSW & Victoria is a very important fixture on the BCNSW calendar, and we look forward to continuing this competitive series for many years to come.
