21.01.2022 By Clement Clarke Moore . 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the houseNot a creature was stirring, not even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;... . The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads; And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap, . When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. . The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below, When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer, . With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name; . "Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now, PRANCER and VIXEN! On, COMET! on CUPID! on, DONNER and BLITZEN! To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!" . As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky, So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too. . And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. As I drew in my hand, and was turning around, Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound. . He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot; A bundle of toys he had flung on his back, And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack. . His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow; . The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath; He had a broad face and a little round belly, That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly. . 18.01.2022 It’s official - I’m now a member of the @qldlawsociety Equity & Diversity Committee! . 2020 has been an incredible year of growth. I timidly started the year speaking up for disability within the legal profession, and gained confidence after becoming a founding member of the QLS Diverse Abilities Network and listening to other members with and without disability supporting the same cause. . My future plan is to act as a voice for the Network and people with disability, by w...orking collaboratively with the QLS Equity & Diversity Committee to advance the message of disability inclusion and acceptance within the legal profession. I am so pleased, and relieved, that this important message is being heard and well received. . I’m looking forward to further championing equal opportunity and inclusion of people with disability in 2021 and beyond! . 16.01.2022 2020: the year of the brave, courageous and heroic (ie, valente is Portuguese for valiant). . This year, we all learnt to adapt to the new ‘normal’. . This year, everyone gained an insight into living with disability.... . Some of your abilities, freedoms, and independence was taken away from you. Whilst a challenge, we adapted, and even thrived with certain conveniences such as working from home accomodations. . Embrace the change, because it will only continue into 2021. Enjoy the reasonable adjustments made to accomodate the covid-normal and remember this time when a person with disability asks for similar conveniences to effect their accessibility and inclusion. . Pandemic aside, it was also a year of bravery and courage for those who participated in the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. To those who gave evidence, thank you for your heroism - advancing the rights of people with disability and valiantly encouraging our participation and inclusion. . The Royal Commission’s interim report has been released and while it does not make any recommendations at this stage, it contains very valuable insights from the inquiry to date. I highly recommend the read. . I’m looking forward to the bright new year to come, and further change-making efforts promoting participation and inclusion of people with disability. . 15.01.2022 IDPwD 2020: and that’s a wrap! . Earlier today I had the great honour and privilege to be a panellist at the @qldlawsociety for our very own rendition of ABC’s ‘You Can’t Ask That’. . Together, my fierce cohorts and I answered questions to debunk stereotypes and provide greater education and understanding around all things disability.... . I learnt a lot myself, upon hearing the perspectives of @fyeang and Theresa Jennings, as well as our fabulous ally @its_biddy_bitch. . It was heartwarming to have such a wonderfully receptive, encouraging, and accepting audience - I had an absolute blast! . Thanks @sheetaldeo for inviting us to speak and including us in the QLS celebration of #IDPwD. . #auslaw #disability #legallyblind #idpwd2020 See more
10.01.2022 A trip down memory lane to where it all began! Today marks the anniversary where I posed for numerous photos with friends and family, following my admission as a solicitor. Here, I am wondering where Lady Justice’s blindfold has gone? Then I realised, her blindness is invisible, somewhat like mine. . Originating from the Ancient Roman’s personification of justice, Justitia, the statue of Lady Justice was formed. She is often depicted as blind (or blindfolded), balancing s...cales, and holding a sword - symbolising: . Blind: impartiality - justice is applied without regard to wealth, power, or other status. . Scales: balance - measuring strengths and weaknesses of competing claims. . Sword: authority - justice is swift and final. . Here’s to Lady Justice and all she represents! . #ladyjustice #justice #justitia #blindladyjustice #auslaw #law #legal #legallyblind See more
03.01.2022 Merry Christmas to you and yours, from the litigation team @pottslawyers
03.01.2022 Christmas! . It’s always a big deal in my family - an opportunity to let the creative juices flow and run rampant. A prime time for design and artistic expression! . Not to mention an excellent opportunity to release my terrible singing voice and unleash ridiculous renditions of Mariah Carey’s Christmas carols. My family get sick of me pretty quickly - but secretly, they love the enthusiasm - whether they realise it or not!... . The first tree is at home - 3m tall requires a full day of ladder climbing and decorating. Craig loves white trees, and I am slowly refreshing the colour palette from red and gold to incorporate more berry red, plum and a touch of dramatic black. The papier-mache reindeers are a gift from my parents who bought them way back when I still believed in Santa! Sadly a couple reindeer and full trees don’t fit into frame... . The second tree is classic green at Dad’s place. My beautiful Mum, before she passed away, was the Queen of Style, and opted for a gold, silver and white theme. Their tree is a more practical height, with bells that chime Christmas carols!!! Our family all have personalised baubles on this tree too - classic Christmas. . The third tree is a new addition at Potts Lawyers and forms the litigation team’s (‘Lit for Christmas’) entry into a firm-wide competition. The black tree is from Mum’s stash, and the gold and white flowers from my oversupply. I made the berry and gold stripe bows, and I also made personalised baubles for our entire team. I’m hoping to get a team photo early next week before the judging begins! (Artworks ‘Tingari Cycle’ by Walala Tjapaltjarri of the Pintupi Nine). . The berry wreath was flukily positioned flawlessly over the covid-safe sign into our litigation office area. Captures this year perfectly! .
