23.01.2022 Kelvin here from BCPerformance showing us the Ninja ZX10RR Superbike. This was the bike I was going to race at World Speed Trials 2020 but hopefully we will be racing in 2021. #caringapproach #Kawasakimotorsaustralia #BCPerformance #Ridercollective #Dunlop #AGVHelmets #Speedweek2021 #WorldSpeedTrialsAustralia #LakeGairdnerSouthAustralia

19.01.2022 The DLRA have no intention of cancelling Speed Week or the World Speed Trials Australia. We are endeavouring to do everything to make sure it happens. However t...he Government and powers that be may make it impossible for us to conduct an event. The latest announcement by the Prime Minister is afternoon is a good example of that, putting a blanket recommendation to all event organisers to postpone non-essential gatherings of 500 or more people. So what exactly does that mean, well I'm buggered if I know and until I am given more information which the Prime Minister tells me he will be releasing over the weekend we do not have enough facts in front of us to make any decisions or determine if this directive has an impact on us. I consider Speed Week to be a low risk event, with less chance of getting an infection there than travelling on public transport for example. There are 2 main factors to getting the virus, proximity and duration. Within 10 feet and for up to 15 minutes. Both of these are easy to avoid at the lake or the camp. There will be a teleconference on Sunday night of DLRA committee and officials where the facts will be discussed. I'm sorry for those from the West and Queensland that are keen to leave, but at this stage, with what has been announced that the very best we can do. So all I can do is say, watch this space for more updates. See more

19.01.2022 We can’t wait to return to the salt next week what’s Lake Gairdner like? The place has a very special aura and spirit and the Gawler Ranges People are its traditional owners. It’s a giant lunar-like landscape about 5,500 km2 and is surrounded by red sand hills and desert. The salt is about 1.2m thick and is blindingly bright, like the snow. Vast bright big blue skies. It’s hot, very hot! Dead flat (perfect for racing). Crunchy under foot and as hard as concrete. The dried out puddles leave salt crust rims around their edges, which makes for bumpy riding at slow speeds around the pits. The salt tastes incredible. No smell, except for fuel! Either dead quiet or noisy as hell. No visible signs of wildlife no flies or mozzies, but it is the home to the amazing Tiger Beetle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Gairdner_National_Park

19.01.2022 There was a lake inspection today around 4.00pm. The lake was found to be in very good condition, hard flat and dry. Marlo said he would drive on it just as it was, no grooming required. So, on that basis we have an event! Photos tomorrow when the guys get back to civilisation

16.01.2022 The birthday present every 9 year old wants. Happy birthday Orson

15.01.2022 On this day in 1907, Glenn Curtiss became known as the Fastest Man on Earth when he went 136.4mph at the Florida Speed Carnival in Ormond Beach. Using a V-8 p...owered superbike of his own design, officials would not allow Curtiss to enter the standard race due to its unorthodox build. They did agree to a time trial and allowed a two-mile start to get up to speed. The next mile was covered in 26.25 seconds at a speed of 136.4mph, with Curtiss later stating, All I could see was a streak of beach with wild surf on one side, sand hills on the other and a black spot where the crowd was. It took him another full mile to bring the bike to a stop. Not only did he shatter the world speed record, but it also propelled him into the spotlight and onto even bigger accomplishments. Four years later in 1911, an automobile broke his record, but it wasn’t until 1930 the year he passed away that another motorcycle managed the feat.

10.01.2022 Check out the blindingly fast green thing at Lake Gairdner: When it comes to fast runners, tiger beetles take the crown for the fastest insects on our planet and it is an Australian species which holds the record. Rivacindela gairdneri, known only from Lake Gairdner, has a top speed of around 9 kph, which doesn’t sound that impressive until you realise that it’s about 120 body lengths per second, the equivalent of a human running at 812 kph. In fact, tiger beetles run so fast that they actually lose the ability to see once they start moving. https://bushblitz.org.au/salt-lake-racers-lake-torrens-bus/ #claudineburgessphotography #defineandshine #lakegairdner #speedweek #dlra #worldspeedtrialsaustralia #tigerbeetle #blind

09.01.2022 PRESS RELEASE 16/03/2020 Dry Lakes Racers Australia Inc Greg Wapling President... PO Box 349 Castlemaine VIC 3450 [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The DLRA 30th Anniversary Speed Week and World Speed Trials Australia #2 has been postponed to a date yet to be confirmed. After exhausting all avenues it is with great sadness that the DLRA has come to the realisation that to conduct Speed Week and WSTA for 2020 has the potential to put people at risk. Something that it strives to limit and remove from all of it's activities. There are several key reasons as to why this decision has been made, and we can assure everyone it has not been made lightly. The strategies that are being deployed to combat this virus by Government and other organisations is placing enormous demands on a finite group of specialists. Originally we had planned for 3 doctors to be in place for the 2 events, but as of today we only have 1 and there is no guarantee that even he will be available by the end of the week. Similarly the South Australian Country Fire Service is calling on its members to reduce their extra curricular volunteer activities as they are forced to replace members who have been inflicted with the virus. We could no longer guarantee the appropriate medical and fire services that are required for such and event. Now that the Corona Virus has been officially identified as a pandemic, most public liability insurance policies consider any episodes to be exempt which would leave the DLRA open to financial ruin. Even with the concerted efforts that the DLRA were prepared to put into place through it's mitigation plan would not be enough to ensure a safe, risk free environment. To our international entrants, we are truly sorry, but with the recent introduction of the 14 day self isolation for anyone entering Australia, it has made competing impossible for many of you. There will be more information made available in the days to come. Please bear with us while we regroup and plan for the future.

08.01.2022 Further to the update from a week ago, all our permits are now in place and I am finalizing our COVID-19 Management Plan with the South Australian Department of... Health. With no defined hotspots anywhere in Australia announced today, the likelihood of borders opening up is looking very good. We now have 85 entries, which is a big improvement on where we were a week ago, but still well below the absolute minimum of 120 we are aiming for to decide if we are still to have an event. This is not just random number, without enough entries we cannot afford to run the event due to the standing costs like leasing of the lake, paying the traditional monitors and paying our medical and fire crews plus all the other consumables like toilet paper, water, and fuel to run the generators and club vehicles, etc. The other big issue is the number of volunteers required to run the event at the moment of the 766 jobs we have identified we still have 317 of those jobs vacant. We need people in the most critical of areas; Start Line, Timing and Pre-Stage. For example, we can run Tracks 1 and 2 Monday morning, but there are not enough volunteers to run in the afternoon and nearly every other day is similar to this. I know entrants have until the 14th February to decide if you are going to enter or roll-over your 2020 entry, but the longer entrants delay doing so makes it all the harder for me to keep saying to people that we are going to have an event in 2021 (and there are lots of people asking).
