25.01.2022 Volunteering has been something I’ve always been passionate about since school. I really love listening to people’s stories and meeting people from all walks of life, and have found volunteering a perfect way I can do that, and contribute back to my community. I have been walking with Gwen since February, 2019. In the warmer months, we go to the local park, and in the cooler months we usually stay at Gwen’s and have a cuppa. I think the benefits for Gwen are being able to fo...rm a new friendship from scratch, have some company on a day where she is home alone, and be able to go outside and enjoy the weather with a friend. The thing that I really enjoy, is our friendship. Since covid-19 we haven’t been able to catch up and go for our usual walks, but we are both looking forward to this resuming. We really miss our walks, chats and companionship. I really appreciate Gwen because she is always checking up on me regardless how busy we may be. Knowing that we were complete strangers to where we are today is really fulfilling and rewarding. #volunteer #blindsports #walkingwithwillpower Photo below: Vicky & Gwen

19.01.2022 Hi, I’m David and I’m 11 years old. I’m wearing my ANZ hotshots t-shirt and hat that I got when I played tennis at the Australian Open with Blind Sports. That was amazing. I also did swimming with Blind Sports before lockdown. I do Kendo with my Dad and brother, we’ve been able to keep doing that on Zoom. Lockdown has been pretty boring but I’ve been socialising with my friends on video games, including one of my friends from Blind Sports. I haven’t really found any new... hobbies in lockdown, but I have started playing Minecraft again. I’m really looking forward to doing swimming and tennis when lockdown ends, I can’t wait to see my friends and beat my coach at tennis again. I also really want to get my next Kendo grading. I’m finally back at school, which is awesome. I didn’t think I’d ever say that. I do miss my dogs though, they have been great lockdown company. Jewel is a 2 year old German shepherd and Rosie is a 6 year old staffy cross. School online was boring and harder for me than normal school. That’s why I’m happy to be back and because I can be with my friends. #blindswimming #blindtennis #blindsports

10.01.2022 Children playing with water definitely leads to lots of fun! At our recent 'Making Music with Water' online zoom program for juniors who are blind and vision impaired, this was no exception. This hands-on music making workshop led by Thea Rossen had the children laughing, shrieking and enjoying the amazing sounds that can be made by using household instruments in water. One of the participants said "I thought the session was very fun and I enjoyed it. I like to play with water to see what I can do to make different sounds! #blindsports #makingmusicwithwater

01.01.2022 Have you heard of the BlindSquare app? BlindSquare is the world’s most widely used accessible GPS-app developed for the blind, deafblind and partially sighted. Paired with third-party navigation apps, BlindSquare’s self-voicing app delivers detailed points of interest and intersections for safe, reliable travel both outside and inside.
