To help us manage our numbers, please tap in & out on the tablet as you enter & leave the gym. Our current gym capacity is 150 people (9 square metres of usable space per visitor) & ask that:... visits are kept to 3 hours max if we're at capacity, please wait outside until there's a free spot please understand that only paying customers can visit during peak times (weekdays from 5pm & all day weekends) so there's enough space for people wanting to climb Of course - existing bookings will be honoured! 08.01.2022 This Global Climbing Day, we’re celebrating leaders pushing for change & engaging the climbing community in a series of conversations about accessibility, inclusivity & the future of climbing. We’re excited to use this opportunity to highlight someone who’s work we greatly admire Riley Edwards [@annyeong.moo / @climbingqts] Riley Edwards (they/them) is the President of ClimbingQTs, an LGBTQ+ rock climbing & social club. What started as an obsession has now taken over their ...entire life & they’re okay with that. When they’re not climbing, they work as a Diversity & Inclusion Advisor within the higher education sector & volunteer as a peer counsellor. They love nothing more than seeing others find a sense of belonging in climbing whether it’s at the gym or out on the rocks. We asked Riley to share a little about their work I am so incredibly proud of how far we have come as a community. We’ve smashed so many of the barriers that have in the past made it difficult for LGBTQ+ people to access and enjoy climbing. If you look at the community now compared to five years ago, we have LGBTQ+ role models & people in leadership positions, we have climbing gyms & businesses with inclusive policies & staff trained as rainbow allies, we’re running state level competitions with categories for gender non-conforming folk & of course we have hundreds and hundreds of LGBTQ+ people thriving in the climbing community. Of course that doesn’t mean my job is done, there is still so much advocacy & inclusion work that challenges me every day, trans & gender diverse folk are still disproportionately bullied & discriminated against & the human rights violations of intersex people persists. There is still so much embedded systemic sexism and transphobia that many of us struggle to recognise. That’s why I’m so proud to be working with key stakeholders in the climbing community like BlocHaus & @climbing_anchors, because I firmly believe in a whole community approach including our allies, to effectively extend the inclusion narrative.
