16.01.2022 When we are trying to reconnect with people we care about, we may need to apologise for mistakes made in the past. People often see an apology as an admission of guilt, an admission that they were wrong or that they are giving up in a fight. It's these reasons that prevent people from making them. What an apology really is, it's an attempt to heal hurt feelings and an attempt to restore balance to a relationship. This is why you need to make apologies.... Many times, people will make really bad apologies, which does nothing to heal or restore. Here are the 3 steps to making a perfect and impactful apology: 1. Own. You need to own whatever it is that you have said or done. "I'm sorry, I said/did etc." You don't need to apologise for things that you haven't done and you should never say "Sorry that you feel etc." That's not taking ownership. 2. Acknowledge. You need to acknowledge the effect your actions have had on someone else. "I know what I aid/did hurt you." Don't attempt to justify why you did something. 3. Amends. Ask what can you do to fix a situation. There may be nothing you can do, or you may find that the apology itself is enough. You need to do what you can to rectify and make amends. 14.01.2022 The next tool from my book Eat fruit, laugh and have sex: 101 ways to reduce stress is exercise. Two important things when we exercise, 1 is used up the adrenaline and cortisol that has flooded our body and 2 endorphins are released which makes us feel good and relaxed. Good thing is you don’t have to do an intense workout to have this effect. Even light exercise such as walking and even tai chi will have the same effect.
