22.01.2022 Executive functioning - the CEO of our brain and body Executive functioning is a set of cognitive skills that helps us set goals, plan and get things done. We use these skills every day to learn, work and manage daily life. Kids who have trouble with executive functioning may find it hard to focus, follow directions and handle emotions, among other things.... Executive functioning skills are learned by the child, but some children need more modeling and support than others. Some strategies I might use to support executive functioning include: Visuals or social stories Breaking down tasks Timers and checklists Goal setting Self-regulation strategies If you’d like to find out more about these skills or have any concerns I’d love to chat! #bloompaediatrictherapy

15.01.2022 Whole body listening is an important skill for little ones who are starting school to begin practicing. It helps children understand how listening is an active process and involves your entire body remaining engaged and aware. Elements of this concept might be challenging for some children and that’s ok. I am here to provide strategies to help your little ones improve their whole body listening so they can listen, learn and play with their peers at school.... This is a great visual to refer to. The @socialthinking program is an excellent resource for teachers, therapists and families to use. #bloompaediatrictherapy

10.01.2022 These are some useful self-care skills to practice before your little ones (or not so little anymore!) start prep It is important to build your child’s confidence by giving them the chance to practise these skills before school starts. Praise their efforts, reassure them and remind them that their teacher will be happy to help them if they need it.

04.01.2022 Some of my go to crayons, markers and chalk for those little hands making their first marks on the page These are all chunky grip which is ideal for young children learning to draw as it makes it easier for little hands to hold. Remember, markers are always a good starting place as they are easier to show up on the page with little pressure compared to crayons which require more force and pressure. ... These ones are from @micador and First Creations. #bloompaediatrictherapy
