18.01.2022 These last few weeks should have been a time for family and celebration. Instead, many communities have been devastated by fires and the Australian community is... hurting. Blooms The Chemist is proud to be a community-minded pharmacy network, and its important that we support those who support us. We are pledging $50,000 to The Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund, helping to provide support directly to those in need. We have acquired 9,000 much-needed P2 face masks. 4,000 masks will be available for the public to access free of charge (one per customer, available from 9 January while stocks last) in our pharmacies that are located near fire-affected areas; please find the list of participating stores in the first comment below this post. The other 5,000 masks will be donated to the appropriate authorities, ensuring these masks go to those who need them most in areas where we do not have a physical pharmacy. If you have been affected by the fires and need assistance with sourcing medication or pharmacy items, were here for you. 11.01.2022 When choosing a sunscreen, it's important to look at more than just the SPF rating. It can be surprising to learn that the difference in UV protection between SPF30 and SPF50 is small (around 1.3%). So, what else should you be looking for? Choose a sunscreen, as this blocks both UVA (causes skin ageing) and UVB (major cause of skin cancer) Choose a sunscreen that suits your skin and lifestyle (eg non-greasy, sensitive skin, easy to re-apply, afford...able) What else should you know about sunscreen? Choose an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen, and most importantly apply it correctly! >>> at least 1 teaspoon per arm, leg, front and back of torso and 1 for the head and neck. In other words, apply liberally! An average sized adult should use about 35mL per application (for a full body) Regardless of what the label says - always apply 20 mins before going outside and re-apply every 2 hours (even if the label says 4 hours water resistant). Store it below 30C (not in the glovebox of your car!), and discard once it expires. -! Sunscreen is only one way to protect your skin from UV rays.
