16.01.2022 June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. Following on from our last post, today we are going to talk about prevention of bowel cancer. Whilst risk factors such as age, family history, certain genetic conditions and inflammatory bowel disease cannot be changed, there are many other risk factors that can - and these risk factors are lifestyle related.... Modifiable risk factors for bowel cancer include: Alcohol Body fatness Lack of physical activity Eating red and processed meats Smoking Your risk of developing bowel cancer can be reduced by limiting your alcohol intake, maintaining a healthy weight, consuming dairy products, keeping physically active, limiting red meat consumption, avoiding processed meats, avoiding smoking and increasing dietary fibre intake. Let's all make a positive change towards bowel cancer prevention!
