I'm joining an amazing network of health and wellbeing practitioners who work from Urban Wellness, including chiropractor Allison French, Kirsty King Naturopathy, couples counsellor Cherrie Adams, Ayurvedic practitioner Lydia Rega of Port Elliot Wellness, aromatherapist Kyrie Kohlhagen of Kindred Self, and midwife Nikki Jones of Connected Hypnobirthing. I can't wait to see you there!

21.01.2022 G E R M A N C H A M O M I L E German chamomile (Matricaria recutita) is a European herb with small white flowers that have a soft apple-like scent. German chamomile has been used as a Western herbal medicine since the times of ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Evidence shows that German chamomile has a mild anxiety-reducing effect in people with mild to moderate generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), when used daily for up to 8 weeks. German chamomile can often be used alon...gside conventional anti-anxiety medicines for an extra boost. Handy hint! It's easy to confuse German chamomile with Roman chamomile, but Roman chamomile is not associated with these same anxiety-reducing effects.

10.01.2022 Bio-Social Theory Bio-Social Theory is at the heart of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). It says that some of us are more likely to have difficulty managing our feelings and behaviours, but there’s a reason (actually, two reasons) why. Emotional vulnerability is our how our biology impacts on our mood. Some of us are more emotionally sensitive, have more intense emotions, and are more spontaneous than others, because of our genetic makeup. ... Invalidating social environments are created when the people around us tell us that our emotions are wrong, bad, weird, or scary. It’s important to say that people who are invalidating are doing the best they can, but they might not know how to validate you, may be struggling with their own feelings, or you might be interpreting your social environment differently than others. Bio-Social Theory says that when emotional vulnerability and an invalidating social environments come together, people can struggle with managing their feelings and actions, and become overwhelmed. Does Bio-Social Theory resonate with you?

02.01.2022 D I A L E C T I C S Dialects in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is the synthesis of two ideas that seem to be opposites. DBT creates space for opposite ideas to both be true at once. One core dialectic in DBT is acceptance vs change. As Carl Rogers said, When so accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
