21.01.2022 Blue Dog Glass will be opening the doors on 12th June however there are some changes with how we will be trading. To keep our customers, students and staff safe we have moved away from a traditional walk in shopping experience. We will no longer have set opening hours. Instead customers who wish to purchase glass, drop work off, pick up work or just visit the studio will need to go online and make a booking via our booking app. This will ensure that we control the number of... people in the studio at any given time. The appointments will be scheduled around classes so the times will vary week to week depending on what classes are running. Our doors will be locked at all times and only students booked into a class or those that have booked an appointment will be granted access. To make a booking from visit https://bluedogglass.com.au/contact/ looking forward to seeing you all back in the studio.

20.01.2022 Introducing the very talented Ian Chadwick. While we are disappointed that we had to cancel his classes scheduled at Blue Dog for this year we are pleased that he has rescheduled his trip to Australia to run classes with us in oct 2021, check out our website for more details

19.01.2022 Our Zoom tutorials are a winner, we have had a number of people sign up and the results are fabulous. One of our customers James wrote an email to us (unsolicited) and wanted to urge people to consider signing up, here is what James had to say: Hi Friendly and talented glass artists, Ive asked Brenda to send this out. (she didnt ask me to write it)... Ive spent my life running businesses and creating jobs and I know how hard it is for businesses like Brendas Blue Dog Glass to get through times like this. I felt I should write to you as friends in this wonderful world of glass. Its time like this we need to gather round and support our suppliers. Without a Brenda to take the risks to run a glass studio over such a long time we would each be severely impacted. I saw this in another art industry some years back where the main supplier collapsed and within just a short time all the artists had migrated away from the art form or just stopped. We just cant let that happen. Can I suggest you consider taking one of more $75 sessions on line with Brenda on some area where you can refine your skill further. She is such a knowledgeable teacher and you would save that money just in what she teaches. And in a period of lockdown, what a nice event for you. Just choose something you want to know, or be better at and sign up or if you cant work the technology phone her and book. If we all did just simple things like this it could save our whole future in glass and having a reliable supplier and course organiser, Please consider, and get round to it.because we dont want to look back and know we could have done something to ensure our passion can continue. warm regards and thanks to our great community, James Cowley (Dr) One of our first ZOOM signups, Judith also wanted to add her opinion on the value of the zoom tutorial. The online mentoring came at the right time for me. I needed an experienced glass artist to help me with tackling some new ideas. Brenda was great - she has the ability to listen and help me put my ideas into effect, suggesting but not instructing. Talking with her on zoom was really enjoyable and I learned lots. Its also a great way to support fellow artists and suppliers in these difficult times. Thank you to both of them for their kind words, to find out more about the sessions visit our website. The attached picture is of Judiths samples. Tomorrow we will offer another instalment of Geraldines journey https://bluedogglass.com.au/classes/

19.01.2022 There is a fantastic exhibition at TarraWarra Museum in the Yarra Valley: Looking Glass by Judy Watson and Yhonnie Scarce. Yhonnie works primarily in glass to tell harrowing tales of the mistreatment of indigenous Australians. An absolute must see. And the cellar door is pretty good too. @tarrawarrama @yhonniescarce @judywatsonartist #yarravalley #conceptualart #indigenousart

14.01.2022 Getting it right. What Blue Dog Glass is doing to ensure students safety while at the studio. With restrictions starting to lift we are reopening on 12th June with our first class running on 13th. Naturally running classes requires a lot of careful planning to ensure students and staff are safe. We are taking our time to get this right, implementing a number of changes to offer a safe environment where your creativity can shine. What we will be doing at Blue Dog to keep yo...u safe while in class: 1. Consulting government agencies about what we can and cant run in the studio. 2. Monitoring the community spread of the Covid19 virus. 3. Assessing our cleaning methods and implementing changes. 4. Limiting our class numbers to unsure that students can safely work without breaching social distancing, this will vary from class to class depending on the type of activities involved. 5. Pushing tables together to ensure students are at least 1.5 metres from their nearest neighbour. 6. Running some classes over our two studio rooms so everyone has plenty of space and feels comfortable. 7. Coming up with a traffic flow pattern in the studio. 8. Suggesting all students wear a surgical mask while at Blue Dog. 9. Disposable gloves will be available and a requirement to wear inside the sandblasting gloves. 10. We request that anyone with any COVID19 symptoms dose not come to class, if you miss a class we will slot you in somewhere else when you are given the all clear. 11. We ask students to BYO coffee cups and cutlery. 12. Hand sanitiser will be available. 13. We will ask students to arrive no more than 15 mins before class and pack up promptly at class end. 14. We suggest students download the Covid app and have it active while at class. 15. Only students and the teacher will be present in the studio while classes are conducted. The front door will be locked during class times so students wont come in contact with customers. Anyone wishing to visit the studio for glass purchases or work pick up/ drop off will need to pre-book an appointment, visit our contact page on our website for details. We are taking your safety very seriously and we are open to any suggestions you might have about how we can do this better, if you have any suggestions please email [email protected]

10.01.2022 The safety and well-being of our customers, staff, artists and students is our top priority in this current state of COVID-19. As such we have had to make some challenging decisions in regards to Blue Dog Glasss activities and events. We have made the difficult decision to temporarily close Blue Dog Glass to ensure the health and wellbeing of all concerned and to support wider efforts to contain COVID19 in our community. All workshops and regular events scheduled until the... end of April at Blue Dog will be postponed please see our website for the rescheduling of classes. We will reopen our doors to the public on 1stMay.Your support will help us get through this difficult period, the arts industry is a tough one to make a living in. As most of you are aware the last few years in the glass industry have been extremely difficult. We were just getting back on our feet and starting to ramp up again, but we will hang in there. Over this period, unless in lockdown we will still be offering our online orders, go to www.bluedogglassto place your order. You can also enroll in future classes on our website. We are toying with a few ideas such as online tutorials, e books and webinars, stay tuned. We are open today, Friday 20th until 4pm and tomorrow from 9am until 4pm, then closing our doors to the public until 1st May. These are difficult decisions and, whilst not yet mandatory, we believe these actions are prudent and measured and meet the expectations of our community. We will continue to closely monitor advice from the Victorian Government and the Victorian Chief Health Officer and Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).We will be providing regular updates on our website, newsletter, Instagram and Facebook accounts. Thank you for your support and understanding at this difficult time. Stay safe.

01.01.2022 If you’re in Melbourne don’t miss the Triennial at the NGV, it’s an absolute feast. Here’s one of the pieces by Stuart Haygarth using recycled optical glass.
