21.01.2022 Let’s talk about Yarn Circles. Yarn Circles is an Aboriginal product designed to start meaningful conversations, that Katie Thompson discovered last year in a chat with Aborigional Education Officer Kahlia Preece, from Larapinta Primary School. Created by Yaegl woman Krystal Randall, this collection of 30 cards has been developed to pass on to children a sense of self and wellbeing, a connection to each other, and an understanding of how Indigenous people feel their own conne...ction to the land and their culture. Each card includes a symbol, created by the author, that clearly represents a feeling or emotion. The reverse side includes activities, Yarn Time ideas, professional guidance, and the First Nations word for the feeling. Katie uses these cards in spaces where she wants to get to know the young people better, like an ice breaker. She spreads out all the cards and talks about the images presented on them. After discussing the merits of each of the artworks, group members chose a card that resonates with them. Then, if they want to share an experience, discuss what the word was or how they related to it, they can. Katie recommends these cards as a tool for greater understanding with young people. #bluearth #bluearthfoundation #yarncircles #aboriginalaustralia #aboriginalculture #aboriginalart #youthactivities

15.01.2022 Let’s start off the week with the mindful Ragdoll Pose. - Stand with your feet hip width apart. - As you exhale, begin to hinge at your hips - Keep your back nice and long while you slide your hands down your legs and fold forward from your hips. Don’t worry about how far down you can go just listen to how your body feels.... - Let your knees be soft so that your belly can rest on your thighs. - Clasp hold of your elbows and let your head and arms hang. Relax and let go everywhere; the more you let go and release tension, the more length you will find at the back of your legs. Consciously and deliberately surrender. - To come out of the pose, bend your knees and slowly come down into a squatting position. Be here for several breaths, and then push into the ground with your feet to come up into Mountain Pose. Benefits of the Ragdoll Pose: - Stretches the ankles, calves, hamstrings, and lower back. - Releases tension in neck and shoulders. - Relieves stress. #bluearth #bluearthfoundation #ragdollpose #yogapractices #mindfulmovement #mindfulnessexercise

03.01.2022 We’re on a mission to prevent sedentary living. In today’s day and age, it’s easy for people to sit or lie down for most of the daywhether that’s at a desk while you work, your lounge while watching TV, or socialising with others in a seated location. Living a sedentary lifestyle can lead to a collection of hypokinetic diseases known as Sedentary Death Syndrome (SeDS).... Some of these diseases include: - Cancer - Congestive heart failure - Type 2 diabetes - Osteoporosis - Depression - Stroke So if you haven’t yet today, get up and move! #bluearth #bluearthfoundation #getmovingkeepmoving #diseaseprevention #healthyhappylife #movewell #livewell
