04.01.2022 The Director of the North Coast Public Health Unit says locals should consider wearing face masks if they are likely to be in an area where social distancing is... difficult. Paul Corben said that could include places of worship, supermarkets, and public transport. "It's a recommendation, it's probably more relevant in Sydney where there is much more public transport and a lot bigger crowds, but we know the virus moves around," he said. "People can be infectious before they develop symptoms and people can be exposed without knowing it. "The risk on the north coast at the moment is very low, but that can change very quickly. "So if you are out and about in a place where it's difficult to socially distance, then a mask is an additional measure for protection, but it in no way replaces those other universal measures for reducing transmission. Mr Corben also confirmed that one of two people in the region recently diagnosed with COVID-19 after returning from Sydney was now in the Intensive Care Unit at the Lismore Base Hospital.
