25.01.2022 Today, we got out our Garden Noughts and Crosses game to play outside. The children eagerly helped set it up, then took turns playing. This classic game can contribute to a child’s developmental growth in numerous ways including their understanding of predictability, problem solving, spatial reasoning, hand eye coordination, turn taking and strategising.

25.01.2022 Today we brought out our ant farm! Mr L was very excited . We had to fill up the bottom section with sand, then came the fun part- trying to find some ants! Mr L, Mr A helped look in the garden, checking under rocks and in the grass. Tamara helped find some and put them in the ant farm. Next, Mr L, Mr A, Mr M, Miss H and Miss B sat down to watch what they were doing. Liz finely chopped up some apple for the ants to eat. Mr L watched the ants as they climbed over the ...apple They are going to eat it he said. We have placed our ant farm outside, where we will be able to watch and study our ants. See more

16.01.2022 This week we decided to do an emergency drill with a difference Normally each month we practice either a fire, lockdown, bomb threat, gas leak or flood. This week we decided to involve the children as active participants and practiced a child having a seizure Thankyou Miss E for being our patient and to all the children that alerted educator Jenny to the emergency situation ... By actively involving our children in these drill helps them remember what to do in case these situations become real life situations Miss E survived this ordeal thanks to the quick thinking of the children who alerted their teacher to this emergency We have some great actors amongst our group of kinder children

14.01.2022 As part of our celebrations for Save the Koala Month, Laura set up a koala inspiration at the creative arts table. The children were then free to create whatever they wanted with the resources provided, or request other resources. Some children chose to create a painting similar to Laura’s. One child decided to paint a kangaroo, another child decided to paint some recycled materials and some children decided to create completely unique works of art. Through this experience, the children are learning how to express themselves through creative arts, how to take inspiration from the world around them and they are transferring what they have learnt at Forest School about koalas to their experiences at kinder.

12.01.2022 Need a more effective way to talk to your Children? Teacher Tom explains how commands like 'put those things away' are ineffective and what you should try instead! ... https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=599472570982075

12.01.2022 This week we have set out an experience for the children to connect to letter recognition, and the sounds of the letters in their names, while also supporting children to write their names. Through practicing each letter, name, and sound in an active and challenging way, we support all levels of literacy learning. For the children who can write their name, this experience can connect our little learners to challenge themselves with other words and sentences.

10.01.2022 This is so true

10.01.2022 Are you still putting your children in 'time out'? The latest research indicates that 'time out' is not only ineffective but potentially detrimental to our Children! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=263603688002129

10.01.2022 Today we introduced our new balance shells to the children. There was lots of questions about what they were and what can you do with them. Being an open ended toy, the balance shells help stimulate creativity and imagination as well as balance and coordination skills. The children used them to rock and spin in, hide under, sit on, put things in and carry them as well as putting them on their heads and peeking through.

07.01.2022 Today, we had a special visitor come to Kinder. It was Matilda the Koala! Liz taught to us all about koalas, from how they grow to what to do if you find one in nature. She told us about what they eat and drink and how to know when to look for one in the trees. Next, Liz showed us all three different koala skulls, one from a male, one from a female, and one from a baby. We also looked at their poo! We all had a sniff and some children asked why it rattled in the contai...ner, the answer was because it was dried. Then, our special visitor arrived for some cuddles, high fives and a little dance. After Matilda left to have a nap in a gum tree, each child had the opportunity to make a badge to take home. A huge thank you to Kylee from Dutch Thunder Wildlife Shelter for sharing your resources with us This experience continues our celebration of Save the Koala Month. Do you have any photos of koalas that you have seen in nature?

06.01.2022 We were all so excited to set off for Forest School today! Several children remarked that Forest School is the best day of kinder. Today on our bush walks, one group saw 3 koalas and the other group didn't see any. We hoped to spot some kangaroos and kookaburras too! We did see some other birds, butterflys and lots of flowers though.... After lunch, some children headed down to paddle their feet in the water, while other children enjoyed making clay faces for the trees. Next time you are at Thompson's Beach, have a look for our creations on the trees there. These faces were made with all natural materials, so will fall off and disintegrate with time. Through this experience, the children strengthened their fine motor skills, expressed their creativity and contributed to a special way to connect with our local community.

01.01.2022 A big thank you to our families for packing spare clothes today to be able to make this happen! MUDPLAY Racing out to the mudpit this morning the children so excited as the water made big muddy puddles. ... Mud provides a fantastic sensory experience and many children are naturally drawn to it, as it provides endless opportunities for discovery and experimentation. The possibilities in mud play for children are open-ended and provide them with so many play options as the mud can vary from wet to dry and crumbly to rough, soft and smooth. It allows children to be creative as they mould it any way they wish. Today children loved feeling texture inbetween their fingers and toes and also bathed in the mud. Mud play also supports children’s physical development, both their large motor skills as they learn to ‘slip and slide’ in the mud and fine motor skills as they manipulate the mud with their hands. Children’s social play can be enhanced through mud play as they cooperate, have fun and create together. We will continue this most mondays so please continue to pack spare clothes for your child. We had an absolute blast today. What water play activities does your child play at home? do you go for walks and have opportunity to jump in muddy puddles ? we look foward to hearing your family stories!
