25.01.2022 Science week Hatching Dinosaurs Rainbow Walking Water Fireworks in a Jar ... Documentary about our ocean and sea creatures A day filled with fun science experiments. The children become very engaged melting the ice with their brush to hatch the dinosaur, we then created walking water and adding the colours in each jar to transfer from one to the other making a rainbow. We talked to the children about our ocean and watched a short documentary this afternoon

24.01.2022 What a beautiful day for an adventure to Forest School Setting out in our groups, we started with our acknowledgement to country, then embarked on a bush walk. This morning, Mrs C brought in a book about kookaburras and can you guess what we saw on our bush walk? Thats right, we saw a kookaburra who came and sat up on a pole only a metre away from us. ... Continuing our bush walk, we sang "Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree" Our other group set off in an adventure collecting and looking after our environment picking up rubish along the way. Cleaning up our great community. Next, it was back to base camp for lunch, we had a great time with water play in the shade, creating our own floating boats out of leaves, feathers, sticks and daisies. Some children even got an oportunity to make their own daisy chain today. At the end of Forest School, as the weather was getting much warmer, we really enjoyed water play in the tubs and some children went down in small groups to paddle their feet in the water. We talked about water safety, and watching our feet sink in the sand. We had an amazing day and we look foward to next week.

23.01.2022 Welcome to Bluebird Spoonville! Today the children made Spoonies to go into our own Spoonville we made in the garden. Spoonvilles have been created all around the world as something fun, interactive and safe to do during the COVID-19 pandemic, because spoons dont have to social distance. ... The children decorated their spoons, and we then placed them in the garden. Through this experience, the children are strengthening their fine motor skills, expressing their thoughts and ideas and developing their sense of belonging in the community. If you pass by our front fence while you are out exercising, stop and have a look - and add your own Spoony to help our Spoonville grow! Have you seen any other Spoonvilles out in our community
23.01.2022 This is so important
22.01.2022 As an extension on our perfume making and dinosaur egg experience from last week, today we investigated our frozen eggs. Monday, several children used empty egg shells to make flower eggs by poking flowers, leaves and petals into the hole in the top of some egg shells, and then filling them up with water. We then placed them in the freezer and had to wait for them to freeze solid. Today, some children strengthened their fine motor skills by peeling the shells off th...e frozen eggs, then they used droppers to dribble warm water onto the eggs, watching them slowly melt. Once we had finished with this experience inside, Liz took the remaining frozen eggs, flowers and water outside and created a sensory tub with them. Some children watched the eggs melt, and others tried to pick the flowers out of the ice. Through this experience, the children are learning about cause and effect, and how ice freezes and melts, as well as strengthening their fine motor skills and using their senses to investigate the world around them. What sensory experiences does your child enjoy at home? See more
21.01.2022 All children deserve to feel safe but does your child understand what unsafe feels like and what they should do when they experience those feelings? 20.01.2022 Are you still putting your children in 'time out'? The latest research indicates that 'time out' is not only ineffective but potentially detrimental to our Children! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=263603688002129
20.01.2022 We had so much fun last week with all of our different science experiences, that we decided to continue these investigations today. We tipped a thin layer of milk into a large flat plate, then used droppers to place drops of different colour food dyes on top. Next we used a cotton bud each to dip into detergent. Then we watched the reaction. The colour was running away from the cotton bud! Some colours mixed and we discussed what the new colours were. ... Through this experience, the children are continuing to learn about cause and effect, and strengthen their fine motor skills as well as learning about colour.

17.01.2022 FOREST SCHOOL ADVENTURES!!! Every week we split into two groups and start the morning off with a bush walk. One group walked a new track, that we had not walked before. We didnt see any koalas this time but the other group did, so this led into a discussion about whether it was a female or male koala We did see some butterflies and birds, as well as hearing several kookaburras laughing high up in the gum trees.... . After lunch, we all went down to the beach, where we enjoyed digging, running and measuring with cup measures. We also explored what natural materials would float and what would sink. The rocks and sand sunk, and the leaves, bark and sticks all float. Through this experience, the children are learning about the world around them, local flora and fauna, and mathematical concepts such as comparison, measurement and capacity. See more
16.01.2022 Following on from a current interest in sensory play, and making perfumes/scents, today we made potions with some lovely smelling plants and fruit. Liz bought in lots of scented plants and fruit, that really got our olfactory nerves working. The children were able to mix some concoctions containing scents such as rose petals, orange juice, mandarines and many other things. The children got to work cutting, mixing, crushing, pouring and combining different ingredients til...l they were happy with their concoctions. Every time I walked near that table, I could smell all the glorious odours coming from the potions. What scents does your child seem drawn to at home?
15.01.2022 Harmony Week 2021 Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australian’s. This week we come together within our Forest School program to celebrate diversity and difference, not only within our Kindergarten group, but our wider community. ... Through books, important conversations and sharing stories of our personal experiences, cultures and beliefs, we were able to deepen our connection to one another, our connection to the community and our overall sense of belonging!
15.01.2022 We enjoyed using our sense of smell to add spices to our play dough. We used shakers to sprinkle the spices over the playdough, then kneaded it in. We enjoyed being in control of which spices we used, working out whether to add a little or a lot. There was lots of discussions about what everybodys dough smelt like. Some said gingerbread, others said biscuits, one child even said jelly beans (Star Anise spice smells exactly like black jelly beans). This was a great exper...ience, building on our perfume and potions activities we have previously done. Through this experience, the children were stregthening their fine motor skills, using their senses to explore the world around them and developing their social skills.
14.01.2022 What a wonderful discovery we made today! The kinder children found 3 snails, Miss V named the snails Tinker bell and Princess for the smaller ones and Bob was the larger snail. The children set the snails up a little home to live in whilst the children watched them. The children were fascinated with the way the snails moved around the edge of the container.... At first we thought the smaller snails may have been a little bit sick but eventually they started moving around the container with Bob and the children were so excited! One of the baby snails moving around the edge of the container went to the toilet on the container as it was moving around, the children thought this was hilarious!
13.01.2022 RELATIONSHIPS The freedoms, risks, and opportunities within our Forest School environment are proving to be perfect for nurturing relationships - not only with one another, but with our community, and with nature! In the past 3 weeks we have witnessed some of the most amazing displays of trust, kindness, understanding, compassion and generosity, not only within our Kindergarten group, but within our wider community. ... A beautiful teaching team leading the way. Establishing warm, responsive, trusting relationships with children and families. Children holding hands, guiding one another, encouraging one another, helping one another. Showing kindness and compassion when one of their peers is less confident, feeling sad, or hurt. Families offering their unwavering support, trust and commitment to ensure the best possible learning outcomes for every child. A community that is opening their hearts to us. Welcoming us, sharing in our joys, our experiences, our learning and our play. These relationships form the very foundations from which our little Bluebirds are able to explore, investigate, grow, learn, play, and discover the world around them!

11.01.2022 A big thank you to our families for packing spare clothes today to be able to make this happen! MUDPLAY Racing out to the mudpit this morning the children so excited as the water made big muddy puddles. ... Mud provides a fantastic sensory experience and many children are naturally drawn to it, as it provides endless opportunities for discovery and experimentation. The possibilities in mud play for children are open-ended and provide them with so many play options as the mud can vary from wet to dry and crumbly to rough, soft and smooth. It allows children to be creative as they mould it any way they wish. Today children loved feeling texture inbetween their fingers and toes and also bathed in the mud. Mud play also supports childrens physical development, both their large motor skills as they learn to slip and slide in the mud and fine motor skills as they manipulate the mud with their hands. Childrens social play can be enhanced through mud play as they cooperate, have fun and create together. We will continue this most mondays so please continue to pack spare clothes for your child. We had an absolute blast today. What water play activities does your child play at home? do you go for walks and have opportunity to jump in muddy puddles ? we look foward to hearing your family stories!

10.01.2022 Forest School today was full of exciting, spontaneous experiences and community engagements. These experiences are such valuable learning opportunities for our little Bluebirds! We met a group of high school students and their teacher from Benalla, chatted to them and watched them load their canoes and head off on an overnight camping adventure! When bushwalking one of the children mentioned snakes! We extended on this conversation by practicing an emergency snake bi...te drill. The children froze at the call of ‘SNAKE’, before finding a safe place to sit as a group whilst Tamara called our pretend Ambulance and Bec started first aid on Miss A, our pretend snakebite victim. This led to an important discussion about the emergency services phone number 000. And to finish off our day, the children noticed a Blue van had set up at the beach - but we were a little bit too far away to see what was happening. Our imaginations ran wild! It’s an ice cream van, No it’s a fruit van! No I think it’s a library! The children suggested. Naturally we headed towards the van to investigate. It was the Sun Country on the Murray Information van! We were welcomed by 2 beautiful ladies who chatted with our Bluebirds, reminding us about safety in and around the water. We were able to share some of our newly learnt Auslan Education signs, before they gave each child a sticker and a postcard to take home and colour in! #visitsuncountry Sun Country on the Murray We are incredibly grateful to each and every member of our community! We are so blessed that you welcome us with open arms, engage with us, and go out of your way to share in the excitement of our little Bluebirds as they discover the world around them!

09.01.2022 As part of our celebrations for Save the Koala Month, Laura set up a koala inspiration at the creative arts table. The children were then free to create whatever they wanted with the resources provided, or request other resources. Some children chose to create a painting similar to Lauras. One child decided to paint a kangaroo, another child decided to paint some recycled materials and some children decided to create completely unique works of art. Through this experience, the children are learning how to express themselves through creative arts, how to take inspiration from the world around them and they are transferring what they have learnt at Forest School about koalas to their experiences at kinder.

06.01.2022 We had so much fun at forest school today! We had a discussion about how to look after our environment, and some children helped pick up rubbish. After lunch, we played some ball and parachute games before going down to the beach. Some children buried their friends and Tamara, some looked for bugs and other children had running races with Laura along the beach.
05.01.2022 CAPTURING FOREST SCHOOL THROUGH THE EYES OF THE CHILDREN The children often witness members of their teaching team capturing Forest School moments on camera. Some ask to take photos. Some ask to see the photos. Last week we extended on this interest, providing both digital and Polaroid cameras for the children. Capturing Forest School through the eyes of the children not only provided incredible insight into their current interests, but we now have photographic memories ...to look back on. The camera’s will remain available to the children through out the year and we will continue to add pictures, making a 2021 Journey Book and wall display in our studio - ‘Forest School through the Eyes of the Children.’ We can’t wait to share this photographic journey with our Bluebird families and friends! See more

04.01.2022 STICKS Sticks are an incredible open-ended, natural resource. They ignite children’s imaginations and allow them to express themselves freely! Yesterday Bec picked up a stick that caught her eye and the children’s imaginations ran wild! ... This stick represented something different to each of us - A rainbow A moustache A smile A sad face A bowl A boomerang A fishing rod A bridge When the children suggested we should keep this speciaI stick, Liz came up with the idea that we should use it daily within our Yarning Circle! And so we introduce our 2021 Yarning Stick.
04.01.2022 Science Week continued Today we decided to "clean up the ocean". We worked as a team to scoop out the rubbish from the ocean (slime) and place it in the correct bins (buckets). We then had a great discussion of how to look after our planet and keep it safe for all the animals.

01.01.2022 Science Week To kick off Science Week, we enjoyed ice cube painting. We used the coloured ice cubes with paddle pop sticks in them to create great works of art. We had lots of discussions about what the ice felt like, what was happening when it melted, and why we needed to keep it in the freezer. This experience begins our exploration of cause and effect, as well as discovering new ways to paint, and strengthening our fine motor skills.
