25.01.2022 BlueCross goes Green for St Patrick's Day! St Pats Day unfolded across our residences like an Irish fair; there was outdoor entertainment by our own lifestyle staff, karaoke, lucky table games and a favourite with the men billiards and beer tasting. The weather was terrific, the atmosphere was festive, and everyone enjoyed a glorious Autumn day indoors and outdoors. Our fantastic chef's shared unique Irish sweets and meals during the day.

23.01.2022 Riverlea | Bringing colour and joy to our lives One of our local Primary Schools unbeknownst to us decided to bring some colour and joy for our residents with the students drawing pictures with messages of love and support. We have laminated these and made a collage on our main noticeboards. The residents love them; a big thank you to the students of Niddrie Primary School!

23.01.2022 Silverwood | Spelling Bee Silverwood held our very first Spelling Bee! The residents enjoyed the challenge of spelling complex words and had a bit of friendly competition amongst each other. They enjoyed letter cupcakes for afternoon tea and which was hosted by our lettered up host - Manola!

23.01.2022 Riverlea | Mystery Bus Tour After months of COVID restrictions, the residents were ecstatic to go on a bus tour. Social distancing has changed our tours, with only four residents each time, so we made two mystery trips this week. This didn’t diminish the beautiful sunshine and the feeling of adventure!

21.01.2022 Ruckers Hill | Picnic in the lounge We organised to have Fish n Chips in the Park - An old favourite for many. Unfortunately, the weather was not as predicted, so our lifestyle team put together our creative minds when the rain began. We decided a Picnic in the Lounge was the best backup, complete with nature sounds and greenery. The residents loved every minute

17.01.2022 Sheridan Hall Caulfield | Hanukah We Chanukah festival. Chanukah is the Jewish eight-day, wintertime festival of lights, celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods. This culminated with a concert with a musician, an entertainer and the Rabbi. They also received special gift boxes filled with donuts and grape juice. They enjoyed special delicious Kosher donuts. The residents and staff had a wonderful time.

16.01.2022 Tarralla | Bob's delivery service Bob who is one of Tarralla’s residents enjoys delivery the residents mail to their rooms dressed up as Charlie Chapman! He brings a smile to so many of our residents faces. Thank you for the great work Bob!

15.01.2022 Australia Day celebrations Our residences celebrated Australia Day in many ways; from travelling around Melbourne and telling stories of holidays, to eating some of our favourite foods and watching concerts. One of our resident's Denis (first image) also brought some cheer to the residents at BlueCross Box Hill, by dressing up in his "fair dinkum" gear. Denis delivered the newspapers and brought the Aussie spirit to our residents on the day.

14.01.2022 Oakleigh | Fun for Fun Recently we had a Clown Around Day with staff and residents enjoying some jokes and laughter and even a game of pie face! 2020 has been a challenging year for all, but we still strive to live by our STARfish principles: Be There, Have Fun, Make their Day, and Choose your Attitude!

14.01.2022 Baradine | Master Craftsman The talented husband of one of our residents found himself with not much to do during the lockdown. After a lengthy discussion about putting together a Christmas raffle, our beautiful Harry delivered us his isolation projects this morning. We are so lucky to have been blessed with his incredible craftmanship in the forms of a rocking horse, elephant, aeroplane and truck. Harry said that not only did he love having something to keep him busy, but he’s also excited to see how much we raise from our raffle. Fantastic work, Harry!

12.01.2022 Sheridan Hall Caulfield | Using a Green Thumb Philip took on the responsibility of looking after one of our raised garden boxes and he is doing such a great job, we can't wait to have some home grown veggies. Well done Philip!

12.01.2022 Westgarth | Ivy is 101! Ivy Thearle celebrated her 101st Birthday with her Westgarth friends and staff. Ivy has lived at Westgarth since 2013 and states the key to a long life is to be friendly and social. Originally from England, she migrated to Australia post-war and lived in Melbourne, retiring to the Gold Coast and returning to Melbourne later to be close to her family. We hope you had a birthday as extraordinary as you are Ivy!

11.01.2022 Silverwood | Kind words go far A Year 9 Carey Baptist Grammar School student Rachel Lou, was kind enough to hand-make several cards for the resident’s at Silverwood with encouraging words and thoughts. Silverwood’s residents were very touched by this, and it made their day. Thank you, Rachel!

10.01.2022 Hilltop, Ivanhoe and Willowmeade | Pink Day for Breast Cancer Across our residences, we have been holding fundraisers to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. There have been excellent afternoon teas made by our chefs and a fantastic market day - which showcased handcrafted ceramic jewellery from Greece, bijou, books, colouring books, masks made by a staff member and sweets made by our chefs. Lots of was laughter shared throughout our residences, and it was lovely coming together in such warm weather to raise funds for an important cause.

09.01.2022 Baradine | Our own Christmas house tour Each year Baradine takes our residents out on a couple of Christmas night lights bus trips. This year, we were unsure if this was going to be possible, so we decided to create our own. Our talented lifestyle staff built the houses, and the residents painted them up and decorated them with lights. We then started off the December Christmas celebrations with a Baradine Christmas house tour. Together, we walked around our home, visiting the houses we had decorated and then finished off with Christmas movies and supper. It was a fantastic way to start the celebrations!

09.01.2022 Westgarth | Christmas Fun Our residents had a fun time dressing up to create personalised Christmas cards to their families on Christmas day, the photos have also been emailed to families. These are only a selection of the photos taken, Merry Christmas to all our families and friends!

07.01.2022 Cresthaven | Meeting our pen pals Earlier in the year, during the difficult times, mums from Lloyd Street Primary School approached lifestyle at Cresthaven and asked if the students from their school could write letters to our residents. They wanted to do something special for our residents, knowing how hard it was - not able to see families and friends. The residents had never met the students face to face until last week when the children dropped in after school for a c...asual visit to say hello and meet their pen friends! It was a fantastic meeting, with gifts exchanged, and photos were taken. Everyone is looking forward to another catch up soon with more time and more children able to visit their friends. See more

07.01.2022 Sheridan Hall Caulfield | Enjoying a breath of fresh air We have had our first bus trip since stage 4 restrictions. The residents were so happy to go out for a drive. We went to Brighten Beach and opened the door for some well deserved sea breeze and beautiful views. At our residences we are also enjoying the outdoors and getting some wonderful natural vitamin D .

07.01.2022 Monterey | Jeans' 100th Birthday It was fantastic celebrating Jean’s 100th birthday party, with her immediate family joining in the celebrations. We sang Happy Birthday twice, once in English and then one in Polish. The family was emotional recalling memories, including Jean losing her husband at a young age, but she managed to bring all of us up on her own. Jean managed to travel all over the world before joining us here at Monterey 10 years ago. ... She is much loved and well known by all the residents. They all made special efforts to wish her a Happy 100th including a remarkable entertainer Retro Jo. Not to forget our chef Judy for making a spectacular cake. Happy 100th Birthday Jean!

07.01.2022 Karinya Grove | Ray's 102! Ray celebrated his 102 Birthday with a lovely celebration. His sons attended the event virtually and were able to join and sing with all the residents and staff. Ray, born in England, was happy to sing to familiar English tunes, and summed up his view on life; 'A laugh a day keeps the doctor away'. Happy birthday to our wonderfully cheerful Ray!

05.01.2022 Sheridan Hall Caulfield | Birthday love Sheridan hall Caulfield continues to make our residents feel extra special on their birthdays. They are all given a birthday certificate, birthday card and a present on the actual day of their birthday and a joint birthday party with an entertainer at the end of the month

01.01.2022 Oakleigh | Community Thank you We were delightfully surprised by a visit from a Year 5 student, Sanika from Oakleigh South Primary School. She presented a beautiful card that she had made with the help of her classmates. The card had beautiful words of encouragement to our staff, for our care and commitment to their Grandma’s and Grandpa’s. It boosted our morale and warmed our hearts!
