21.01.2022 How do you change the experience for someone on a cancer journey? Meet Tara (Riley’s Mum) - her routine for the past 110 days has been driving over 50km to Perth, spending the night with her 9 year old son in hospital after having major surgery for a brain tumour. The next day Tara drives 50km back home to spend the next 24 hours with her other 3 children. Today, we disrupted her routine and kidnapped her before going home from the hospital and took her to have a massage, a b...ite to eat for lunch and then a pre Xmas shop at Foodbank WA to stock up the cupboards for the family We have all our fingers and toes crossed that Riley will be able to spend Xmas at home - it would be a dream come true ! We are totally wrapped to share with you that the very talented Michael O'Brien will be entertaining us at our Barefoot Bowls night on Friday 5th March. Michael learned his craft singing and playing guitar to Cat Stevens songs for the pure joy of it. He then went on to be the Songwriter-Bassist for WA's most popular '80s pop rock band, V-CAPRI, before switching back to guitar and fronting award winning country music band Magnificent 7. People have often thought Margie and I were twins - so much so that we both received our cancer diagnoses within weeks of each other. 14.01.2022 Being told you have cancer freezes all of your senses, the world stops and your whole body turns numb. The road ahead is long, often isolating, terrifying and stressful. Blue Dot Army is a charity organisation committed to improving the personal experience around a cancer journey. We will be the voice that tells the stories of those who have walked the path and raise funds to change what is often a traumatic and terrifying time into a more nurturing, humane process. We will improve the waiting room experience, reduce anxiety and promote health and wellness which form part of the holistic experience of a cancer journey. The butterfly signifies new beginnings and Blue Dot Army is gathering a kaleidoscope of people to join forces and help others to alleviate the stress and isolation often felt. 13.01.2022 Three months ago today Riley was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He had his final radiation treatment this morning. It was so exciting to visit with him this afternoon and watch him play a game. ‘Rad Riley’ came third and won himself a great prize. Congratulations little man - you are a real inspiration. Keep kicking goals.
