23.01.2022 Some Thoughts From B.J.

20.01.2022 Check this out..

20.01.2022 When All Else Falls... Yet 'another' win on the Kingies for our ubeaut Speedster Jig from B.J.s Custom Baits. Avid Sydney Harbour landbased Kingfish enthusiast ...Sylvester is rapidly becoming a bit of a regular on our humble little group page over at Bluefin. This quality 85+cm specimen was the only fish of the day for the whole entire group full stop, thus making it our fish of the week by default for the Upper Harbour. Yes. The words 'Upper Harbour' and '1oz Speedster jig' are the key points of note for those who are interested in catching these fish in the dead of winter using this technique; which to date has enjoyed a 100% strike rate. (Am touching some very serious wood on that one as I write.). So why are fish of this caliber being caught at this time of the year and so far up the harbour.? As in the part so far up that is more often driven past and overlooked than it is fished, and is most probably better known to for it's fine food, great cafe's, and some kickass blues bands. (hint). The answer is threefold yet relatively simple for those in the know: - As a general rule of thumb the average water temp is warmer in the Upper Harbour at this time of the year. (This is one very important and often missed tip/point of note for your log books). - It is where a lot of the bait fish currently are. (Particularly tucked in behind those nice little eddies that form directly behind certain bridge pylons). - For at least the 4th/5th season in a row not 'all' of Kingies move out of the Harbour and migrate. Such has been the success of this fishery recovery; largely due to the closure pro trapping and enforced pollution legislation all those years ago. We now have a year round resident and breeding Kingfish population in Sydney Harbour. When things start to slow down and get all chilly in the Harbour propper "Don't give up. Move up". (Quote my old mate Craig McGill circa 2017). And why the Speedster on (quote) "A pier/wharf that was literally full of anglers, lines, fresh strip baits, lives, lures, and killer fresh squid all being frantically and fruitlessly thrown at the boiling bait schools".? The answer. It's exactly the same one that we at Bluefin have been giving pretty well each and every time we feature a post on B.J.s Custom Baits. They really do 'Work and Produce''. Full stop end of story. There's now more than two lifetimes of combined experience, science, testing, and pure passion behind them. True jig fishing is largely a long lost and forgotten fishing art form/alternative in this country that kicks some serious fishing butt when used correctly. Whatsmore B.J. himself may be many things (depending upon just whom you may happen to be talking/listening to ) but hey... The man is certainly no fool who's probably forgotten more than a great many of us will ever know when it comes to fishing and the art of creating truly effective and lethal fish catching artificial presentation. It's definitely a whole different ball game over in the U.S. where his products are often converted and are more custom commissioned than they are ordered. And that's coming from a country that largely pioneered jig fishing which is interestingly, currently enjoying an even bigger than ever resurgence of its own on the jig scene. Personally I am tipping jig fishing as potentially being one of the forerunners in the next new wave to hit the industry as we are both due for, and in need of, one. We will see and guess that time will tell soon enough. Anyhow if you want to be in on some of the action or are looking for alternative to watching Netflix reruns while at home in self quarantine, then you know how and where to find me. Cheers and 'happy fishing' as always.

20.01.2022 Worth checking out.

19.01.2022 Freshwater enthusiast and avid angler Mark Cummins shows off some of his favorite Thunda Spin designs and colours.. All of which have accounted for more than th...eir fair share of freshwater species in addition to numerous P.B.s caught from a variety of locations. * We would personally like to thank Mark for his ongoing support and congratulate him on all of his piscatorial successes to date using our Thunda Spins.

19.01.2022 Yet another great win for B.J.s Custom Baits.. This stonker Bream was caught thru the week by B.J. himself in the South arm of the Manning River. It had no hes...itation scoffing his 1/2oz Thunda Spin 'flash' fitted with a 4/0 hook while on the drop of his 2nd cast of morning. "I'm super stoked as I couldn't have thought of a better way to christen my new custom built weapon from Jon Darley of JD Rods if I had tried" stated B.J. B.J. uses a variety of quality UV materials imported from the U.S. in the construction of his jigs which are then dressed with the likes of Chenille, Marabou, and Bucktail, depending upon what species are being targeted at the time. It is of little wonder that other tiers up and down the coast are now trying in ernest to imitate his designs in an effort to match his continued 100% success rate to date. (Touch wood).

17.01.2022 Red and purple Thunda Spins = Cod (and more). For sales contact: 0418 476976.

14.01.2022 Now is the time to be out there with ample leadup pre season rainfalls in conjunction with the warming temperatures.

13.01.2022 # Correction Re The B.J.s Tailor Post: 1) It was 10lb Gevicont not 10kg. B.J. only fishes light. 2) The grand total of Tailor caught for the morning was actually 18. As his mate with the other Custom Bait jig also caught 9 Tailor before being also monstered. Cheers.

11.01.2022 Just a couple of the 9 Tailor that absolutely smashed the 1oz Speedster and Thunda Spin Flash jigs that were caught earlier today by B.J. himself of B.J.s Cust...om Baits off the sands near Taree.. The best (landed) went a tad over 2kg and B.J. would have batted on for a few more if some 'really big' things hadn't come along monstered and knicked his 1oz jig with 7/0 hook..! (No prizes for guessing that those two big beastie boys certainly weren't no Tailor that went thru his 50lb leader joined to 10lb Gevicont braid like a hot knife thru butter). Both B.J. Custom Baits jigs and Gevicont braid are only available to Bluefin Fishing Tackle Sales exclusively. At the end of the day they end up making W.A. pillies look cheap in addition to enjoying an truly unparalleled and incredible (touch some serious wood ) 100% success rate to date. Guys and Gals seriously - You've got to be in it to win it as they say. To do so simply call us on: 0418 476976.

10.01.2022 Yet Another Great Win For The 'Thunda Spin'.. The Thunda Spin by B.J.s Custom Baits maintains it's unrivaled 100% success rate to date (touch wood) whilst being... christened in the Territory. The 1st cast produced this 90cm Barra from amoung the coffee rock and was then backed up by one of a number of Jacks on the 2nd. Location. Dundee Creek. Darwin. Available exclusively thru Bluefin Fishing Tackle Sales. * The saltwater version of the Thunda Spin comes fitted with a beefed up with a 7/0 Gamakatsu hook as part of its standard kit.

09.01.2022 Another Sydney Harbour Kingfish on our Speedster jig.

07.01.2022 Avid angler and fresh water specialist Mark Cummins bags another quality Redfin of 48cms. He was using our special Marabou skirt Thunda Spin jig matched up with a Beetle Spin. 'With fishing it often pays well to think a bit outside of the circle'.. Congrats and well done.

06.01.2022 82cm of Kingfish recently caught on our Speedster jig right under the iconic Harbor Bridge at a time when all other baits and lines remained untouched..

01.01.2022 Our good friend and gun freshwater test angler Mark Cummins was back in the drivers seat thru the week. On this occasion his challenge was to put our trademark ...Thunda Spin (made and designed in full by Brian Bochow of B.J.s Custom Baits) back to the test. This time however it had been newly fitted with a 'twin spin' underspin blade configuration. In the end it did not take very long at all for both the new twin spin and Mark to come up trumps once again and as per usual. Apparently the Cod were (quote) "All over it with countless follows, including some from big fish that even he knew existed in that particular hole - Until the other day"... Congrats and well done.
